I was working with one today who has been confirmed to have covid-19 twice. Second time was asymptomatic. Was picked up on weekly testing. Swabbed again and confirmed.

Great news if reinfections are asymptomatic.

A girl i work with who had Covid two months ago has just had a second Positive result.
Been told it could be a false positive or a re infection so has to isolate.

If she was initially infected 2 months ago, it's quite possible that the PCR test is picking up dead viral fragments. This happened quite a bit in S Korea in April. To the point where their public health team conducted a full study on it to find out why so many people were testing positive again a month or two after their infection. The concluded it was dead viral fragments. It was also the first study that confirmed Covid didn't penetrate the nucleus of the host cell, so was not a chronic illness.

if asymptomatic surely the second time they didn't "have" covid, just carried it?

Can you please give any insight into our capacity to provide oxygen to patients?

Several UK hospitals are in trouble in this regard, and I've a bad feeling our capacity is even lower, but basing that on nothing.

Wouldn't be concerned about oxygen to be honest. No issues with supply at the moment

There is nowhere in the world which has successfully used antigen testing to prevent clusters.

I don't want to be that guy, but I think F1 did a tremendous job with their testing and protocols over the course of the season and prevented outbreaks.

Not really as can spread to people who can develop symptoms.

I've heard of people this time round too. I don't like to bring anecdotal in support of an argument but it matches with the science we know on coronavirus'. There's a big scrabble on too find out if vaccines will be as effective with these variants. Unfortunately it takes time. UK and SA variants identified because they were looking for them. There's probably more out there and the more people who get infected the faster it evolves. Scary thought but it was a scary year and we need to stop thinking so wishfully regarding this.

Maybe but unknown at this stage

She has told me that she does not feel anywhere near as bad as she did a few months ago.

If people want the virus to stop spreading, stop interacting!!
    Simple enough!

Its not the Governments fault entirely but the message was we are doing great and this was grabbed by people to mean go out and enjoy yourself and have Christmas with your whole family
This massive spread is most likely from household mixing and spreading it far and wide

Be careful talking about reinfection. Some posters get very tetchy about it ;)

Do you mean they ask for evidence?

Until proven otherwise you would have to work on the basis that it is transmissible by people suffering a second infection. To do anything else would be extremely risky

That would be great news indeed but we don't just get colds once do we though? You must be an edge case if you only had the coronavirus' that make up the common cold once.

NON-URGENT HOSPITAL care is in the process of being cancelled from this week to free up capacity and reduce risk, the CEO of the HSE has said.
Paul Reid said the situation will be “literally going back to where we were in March and April” in terms of non-urgent healthcare being scaled back.

How did it get out of control to March levels? It really shouldn't have. They need to look at what's not working and that's letting infection into the country and allowing them to mingle in restaurants and then to go off and spend Christmas with their families.

Is there anything to be said for zero covid?

    Equally as dangerous.

There is zero reason why antigen tests can't be used in hospitals settings to further control the spread of this disease. They have been shown to be 90%+ accurate.

I was flying around today using my home made wings. I'm sorry I can't post the evidence.

Do you honestly believe that this is the only coronavirus that won't reinfect? Again we are not even a year into this and it is shutting down economy and schools AGAIN. Here's what other coronavirus' look like on a longer term.

I haven't had a cold in about 20 years. Yes this is very unusual! Handy at the moment though, if I get any cold like symptoms I will be certain it's covid

If people decided to go out and enjoy themselves in the middle of a pandemic they only have themselves to blame regardless of what the government did or didn’t say.
    It’s not rocket science.
Easily spread dangerous virus= stop mixing with people and take appropriate precautions.

Germany is extending it's harsh lockdown until 31st of January. Since the 16th of December, schools, most shops, restaurants and bars are closed.

We on the other hand are still mulling over extending the school closures, despite being in a significantly worse way.

Believe what you wish, I don't particularly care. I haven't had a day off work since 2001 and have not had any illness over that period other than stomach bugs and an eye infection. There are always edge cases...

I remember a certain poster claiming a huge number of HCW got reinfected, got rather aggressive when asked for evidence of his claim.

If this is not highlighted you can be sure they'll have collective training again next weekend.

Whatever about Covid, not sure crawling in the mud is the key to beating Kerry or the Dubs. :pac:

Lucky you but I don't think it's a good idea to base our public health strategy in a pandemic on the fact that you never got sick? It's not about YOU. If you are selling any supplements that might interest me though.

I’m not sure I’ve ever had the flu and I’ve never had the vaccine. I’ve maybe had 3 or 4 mild colds in the past ten years and no chest infections. I put this down to possibly good immunity, and almost OCD levels of hand hygiene and I have always washed my hands as soon as I entered my house, hopefully leaving the germs outside. Practicing the basics, as they keep telling us, really is a good idea.
