    Vaccine is the issue now.

I suppose it will take until 2022 to deliver it. Well it is the HSE after all. Go figure.

Why are our numbers so low? Is it due to lack of supply or what? How can Israel vaccinated so many compared to us? Is it supply or the cost of the vaccines?

Israel is not in the EU.

I think they'll wait till Friday to announce any changes

You are prob right but Why would they do that? Is this all about optics? About looking like you have taken time to consider everything, instead of acting quicker and more decisive? What exactly do we gain by not bringing in these restrictions sooner? In what world will things improve over the next week to make it look like waiting till Friday is sensible?

I’m genuinely asking BTW, not complaining, looks like we haven’t a clue where we are as testing and tracing has gone to sh*t, I just don’t understand why ww would wait till Friday ...

Doubt they are really, maybe in public transport. We don't know for sure but it would be surprising if the vast majority of spread wasn't where people are close together for an extended period of time with no masks.

No all the evidence show they work if used correctly. Now are they being used correctly, not a chance.

I saw a tweet the other day that 2,000 vaccines had been distributed but 1,800 used.no panic lads.nothing to see here .will be all vaccinated by 2030/2035

Does anyone know if I can line up ready for any unused vaccines that might not get used? It's a pity to waste them.

    Untrue .
    Crowded and busy yes .
    No beds for people .
People sitting on chairs waiting for trolleys waiting for a bed.
Not with an infectious disease rampant infecting staff and healthcare workers ( some would get flu, yes, but not to the extent that people are catching Covid ) for which there is no preventative other than PPE and isolation.
Covid and busy A&E s and overcrowded hospitals do not coexist at all .
Most years there might be one ward with flu patients in any given hospital , not half the hospital .
Patients admitted are overwhelmingly sicker than with flu as this affects multiple body systems at a rapid pace once one us sick enough to be admitted.
And what happens when there aren't any spaces left for Covid patients ?
General admissions get cancelled ..operations ..appointments ..treatments .
Please do not conflate this with other years , it is patently not the same .

Wow. It’s almost as if the government and health service didn’t have nearly one whole year to work around this!

Its not the same. We are in the middle of a pandemic. Its a bad situation but I will say when it comes to deaths we won't surpass what we seen in April, which was bad but nowhere near as bad as what was predicted at the start of the pandemic. The next few weeks will be rough for anybody working in a hospital and will be disappointing for a lot of people who are waiting for procedures etc as they will likely be cancelled BUT we have learned from the first wave that restrictions work and we know 2 weeks from now things will be bad but we will be near a peak then things should start improving.

I don't agree with you. I think you are underplaying it ,don't know why, when you say your partner is a nurse .

I think we won't be at peak for at least 3 to 4 weeks for reasons I have said twice already this evening.

Not fear mongering. Just know from experience .
I have accurately predicted this in late November, and other waves as I am a nurse, and have worked through this pandemic so yes, know the pattern now .
Cases will peak in about 2 weeks but hospitalisations and ICU admissions will continue to risefor another 3 + weeks on depending on severity of infections and age profile of those hospitalised.
Then if restrictions are persevered with we may start to improve, but going to be a lot if sxxx before that .

My post was sarcasm, funny thing is there are a few here that regularly sneer those posters in the restrictions thread.
Tbh there’s no real difference in some of the nonsense posted on this and the other thread in the last week.

Just seen on Instagram a consultant in the mater said it took 30 hse staff to deliver 25 vaccines if this is the case it’s ridiculous

I to inject the vaccine the other 29 to write reports about how efficient the Vaccinator is . We’re saved back to normal Summer 2031.

Masks do the job when on. Other scenarios in action. And as was said from the start, masks are not silver bullet, just part of it. And when u see 4 lads in one car even with masks on..oh well

Anywhere I've been has been a ghost town compared to November. Never mind last week.

    Kind of an interesting difference.

If you are in an at risk group then you will be vaccinated sooner rather than later. If not you must wait your turn same as the rest of us.
Try not to panic or be scared. We will get through this.

In the UK, retired doctors cannot act as volunteer vaccinators unless they can prove they have received training in ‘conflict resolution, equality, diversity and human rights, fire safety, and preventing radicalisation’.

This is the worst I've seen covid present yet. Back during March was nothing compared to now.

The amount of obvious and very sick patients we're getting is next level compared to last year.

It's quite frightening. And people are so used to it at this stage, nobody seems to care. It's truly is the "new normal". People are being so casual about it. It reminds me of England back during the initial outbreak.

The labs can't cope. We're hemorrhaging staff.

We had 1 ambulance for a one of the top 15 largest counties the other night.

Please be careful. Nows is not the time to be busting into the shops. Nows not the time to be visiting family and friends for drinks at home. People really don't give a flying fck at the moment. MM is an perpetually absent disgrace and I'm so angry at how this **** show is going thanks how the entire country and goverment let their guard down over christmas.

I've been doing anything and everything I can not to catch covid. What can I do when I have to go into work and mix with people? It's causing me a huge amount of anxiety seeing and mixing with so much people who doesn't care.
