The restrictions aren't deep enough and you well know it.

I think they'll wait till Friday to announce any changes

Don’t worry about it. Ray Kennedy just told us that Ronan Glynn said the vaccine isn’t important at the moment. So quieten down and don’t ask questions. Stay home.

    It's not.

We need to beat this without the help of the vaccine. We ****ed up. it was just around the corner. But it's of little help in this crisis.

Perhaps they could give the new restrictions a little longer than 4 days to deliver some results.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Any one any details on how many of the vaccines have been given in Ireland so far

About a couple of thousand I think.

The administration of the vaccine will be the Litmus Test in all this.

My wife is currently consoling my sister in law who is in a vulnerable group but who’s employer (retailer) is insisting she goes back to work tomorrow. The shop is basically a ‘pound’ shop that has deemed itself essential by stocking hand gel and masks. Unlike Lidl/Aldi who were forced to close the non essential isles the owner has brought in stock that she never sold before to enable her to stay open- mad world we live in!

Could her gp sign her off?

No security other than the centres own security guards who haven't time to police every shop. They were supposed to be restricting numbers allowed into the shopping centre itself before Christmas, but that never materialised. She just keeps her head down and says nothing, she's afraid she'll loose her job. Hopefully, she's going back to do a Masters next year and she can get out of there!

The security in most shopping centres would be a mixture of concierge and uniformed security, neither would actually have legal grounds to restrict actual numbers entering.
It's the management who in reality have the legal responsibility to reduce the numbers and be assisted by the security.
Not a hope of a member of management doing that in person.
Reality is there is not much security can do unless the centre recruit the services of qualified doormen, they would have the right to refuse entry due to number restrictions.

    What's left? Schools and construction?

Schools, construction, redefining essential business as it was in March, no click and collect, no takeaway pints, to name a few

It's Christmas or the weekend or the freezer is broken or the computer system only counts to 2000 or they need more vaccine photo-ops or they didn't know about the vaccine or some such excuse...we have accepted a poor health service and management for many years so why stop now?

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Yes. Needless worry but I’m glad it’s not positive for whoever. Will try reporting error to hotline. It has my first name and age included in message which are correct but I didn’t have a swab taken. Unless I was tested over 5G without my consent.

No, the 5G connection would be with the vaccine ..you'll be plugged into the network :)

Schools will 100% open on 11th Jan I would put the house on them opening, now whether there will be kids allowed into those open schools or just teachers, that's the 65k question.

Is it common for elderly people to be asymptomatic?
My dad is 79, has quite a number of serious underlying conditions and has confirmed covid. He is completely asymptomatic, was only tested as a close contact, wouldn't have known otherwise.

Interesting take on the Swedish approach. UK outlook but still worth a read.

Did anyone on here promote it or would that be a no?
There's a thread on it, which I rarely dipped into, but I guess about half the people in there were promoting it. Probably fewer than that now, but I'm sure there's still a few stalwarts.

St. Judes GAA apparently had a 40-person lockin in the clubhouse over the Xmas. Some of these then went to work in the Orwell Supervalu. The local takeaway has decided to shut for a few days.

Well that's one SuperValu I'm striking off my list of click and collect shops.

I cant see it bar maybe LC students.

I dont see why LC students cant still come in and social distance.

A lot of business who did click and collect or takeaways(cafes and restaurants) during the lockdown in November are not opening in my nearest town. I think a lot of businesses will do similar because they know they won't do enough to make it worth while

Why are our numbers so low? Is it due to lack of supply or what? How can Israel vaccinated so many compared to us? Is it supply or the cost of the vaccines?

That was my wife’s exact response, especially when you have the senior HSE staff on saying- cut contacts stay, at home.
She works in a small midlands town. One day before Christmas the guards were called because some drunk dude was going around insisting on giving out free hugs :)
I hope one day I can regale these types of stories to my grandchildren and have them look at me like I’m telling tall tales.

Amazes me that schools have not yet staggered start times for classes to reduce that congestion.
