My daughter works for Easons. They are considered essential as they sell papers and stationery. She works in a shopping centre and they initially were told to allow 49 into the shop including staff. Management in the centre said they had to increase to 95 excluding staff. She said people are coming in, sipping coffee and eating ice creams with their masks under their chins. They also leave their coffee cups on books when they're finished and off they go. She's had abuse from many customers for asking them to take their rubbish with them. She also noticed declining compliance with mask wearing.

Even without a pandemic leaving rubbish and coffee cups anywhere but a bin annoyed me, always now in shopping baskets too

In the next pandemic, and many others that follow, Ireland will be cited by epidemiologists as an example of what not to do at Christmas.

Seeds firmly planted for schools not to be opening next week by the sounds of it.

No security other than the centres own security guards who haven't time to police every shop. They were supposed to be restricting numbers allowed into the shopping centre itself before Christmas, but that never materialised. She just keeps her head down and says nothing, she's afraid she'll loose her job. Hopefully, she's going back to do a Masters next year and she can get out of there!

No place of work should be getting away with this. They should be limiting numbers. This is exactly why there's such huge increase now. Your post makes me mad as well.

If only the government had seen what a holiday did in other countries.....

She's very distressed with it. She suffers from pretty serious depression and this isn't helping. It really is amazing the amount of arseholes out there. She's had customers physically push her out of the way to get past when she's working on the shop floor.

Just on this ... I went out to do our food shop today. People are getting very very irritable in the shops and there is a lot of tension out there. I felt really uncomfortable today as a customer. I can't imagine what it feels like for staff.

How does one get an age demographic breakdown of the cases?

Be good to know how many of these cases are school going age.

    All here.... https://covid19ireland-geohive.hub.arcgis.com/pages/detailed-profile-of-cases

Interesting take on the Swedish approach. UK outlook but still worth a read.

Did anyone on here promote it or would that be a no?

Well, another theory/approach bites the dust. At least some countries are thinking ouside the box and not just following the lead of everyone else though.

Yes herself, Katie Hannon, Claire Byrne all members. Hannon started her show yesterday by saying “we will need more restrictions with these numbers”. Oh will we really, what qualified you to make that assumption?

My wife is currently consoling my sister in law who is in a vulnerable group but who’s employer (retailer) is insisting she goes back to work tomorrow. The shop is basically a ‘pound’ shop that has deemed itself essential by stocking hand gel and masks. Unlike Lidl/Aldi who were forced to close the non essential isles the owner has brought in stock that she never sold before to enable her to stay open- mad world we live in!

There's a Gastro pub in the town I live in with an open for business sign outside and the side gate where deliverys are made open for customers to enter the premises around the back. Some cheek.

Perhaps they could give the new restrictions a little longer than 4 days to deliver some results.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Don’t worry about it. Ray Kennedy just told us that Ronan Glynn said the vaccine isn’t important at the moment. So quieten down and don’t ask questions. Stay home.
