Yes, I agree that vulnerable should go on PUP if they can.

But I don't think that it should lead to relaxed restrictions on others. Most of the hospital beds over the next couple of weeks will be taken up by those who wouldn't have considered themselves to be vulnerable.

    How do you know that?

    It strikes me as unlikely.

Just to follow up on this.

Numbers for 31st Dec were published yesterday and were 31 under 65, 18 over 65

Number published today for 1st Jan are 32 vs 25 respectively

Numbers of U45s is 25. Same as over-65's

Edit: Just to clarify, those are the day-on-day changes. not the numbers in beds.

After 9 months we have got worse with testing and contact tracing

But we’re doing great job and nobody’s allowed question anything that’s been advised from all the HSE experts.

They’ve got this all in hand since last March not a moments worry...

    If only if only

I can tell you now that shopping was the cause of this. Shopping! for crap and pyjamas in crowded places.

Followed by the Chrimbo with the Mammy and a hundred others.

And the pre Chrimbo eats and drinks with friends.

It all adds up. I am a sad person, I did none of this. But am happy that I (polishing halo lol) did my best NOT to contribute to the rise in numbers.

Ahem, if only everyone was as virtuous as me, we would be fine wouldn't we? (lighthearted before I get lamped)

    Anyone watching fair city?

When were these episodes shot? People going into other people's homes like it's nothing.

To be fair, soaps are boring to begin with it. Do you really want one to mimic the current reality where quite frankly, NOTHING HAPPENS.

It wouldn't make for great viewing would it

Apologies if mentioned but were the evening hospital figures announced?

I think ICU was, 66, but didn't hear the general Covid one.

For context that's about 10-15% of the total people that die each year in the states. Really high number, I wonder what kind of figures 2021 will have.

    LOL.

Ah sure look it, it is very grim out there for sure, but a bit of levity helps sometimes I think. Hysteria never solved anything. :P

What we need now is a Level 7.5 lockdown with the Army shooting people on sight with the vaccine, that ought to work

Yes but no point in beating yourself up about it, you did nothing wrong, we just need to get on with it now and not make the situation worse. The chances of this affecting anyone personally are still pretty small in which I mean death or serious illness.
And if it does affect anyone personally its just hindsight and you had no way of knowing it would happen.

If your plan is to have any chance of working, people need to wake up and join the army

That people cant just assume they are automatically immune to catching the virus and then blame "hindsight" for catching it.

Ah you know, kids need to buy their pens and paper for school.

    Edit: but can't buy clothes.

My daughter works for Easons. They are considered essential as they sell papers and stationery. She works in a shopping centre and they initially were told to allow 49 into the shop including staff. Management in the centre said they had to increase to 95 excluding staff. She said people are coming in, sipping coffee and eating ice creams with their masks under their chins. They also leave their coffee cups on books when they're finished and off they go. She's had abuse from many customers for asking them to take their rubbish with them. She also noticed declining compliance with mask wearing.

Is there anything that isn't considered essential at this stage?

Fair play to her. Clowns need to learn basic manners.
