I wish they would announce all backlog cases in the one day if possible... even if it’s 8000 or 9000 get them out of the way . Is that even possible or do they currently even know the back log ?

As time goes by you start to divulge more and more information. I tend not to be too generic in my comments either. I was 'spotted' once in the past. I just picked 2000 as a threshold randomly. I am not on any other form of social media either. Well apart from whatsapp.

Way ot, but i can understand that. Someone figured out I who was from an event i did before. Not that i had anything to hide but felt a bit weird about it tbh.

The main thing I take from these numbers is how widespread covid actually was in the first wave back in March/April. We had similar figures in hospital but the daily figures were quiet low.

An analogy is alcoholism rates in Ireland. They tried educating people and campaigns, but none of these effectively reduced the rates of alcoholism. The only intervention that has been consistently showed to reduce alcoholism is taxation and elimination of minimum-unit pricing. I think that the good-will of people is over. Most dogs on the street have received the message at this point. They need to enforce the restrictions. The theory of the restrictions is good. But if the only method of implementation is people feeling duty-bound, they will fail. With regard to the enforcement, I am not sure what is the best method. I think that we have to put the rights of collective society at the forefront, while we are in mitigation mode

They know what it is alright. 9k + according to Nolan the other day, said they would be added to the numbers announced in the coming days and the backlog should clear in a week or so I think he said

Yep 5,000 and remember close contacts no longer been tested?

Can you imagine what real numbers are?

And they want 1million people mixing in schools in a week?

    Good luck with that.

They don't release them on Sundays but they've recently said "Until the delays that have arisen are resolved, laboratory test results will no longer be reported".

I don't know if this refers to them releasing them as part of their press releases or on the datahub.

So by being " less optimistic " others are less realistic also?

Even if we manage to quell this exponential rise in cases by ..when ...mid January !..who's being unrealistic here ? There will still be those infected by all of those cases and their contacts also rolling along for another month after.
So " realistically " / optimistically , with every surge like this, it is at least six weeks before you will start to see any stabilisation of cases ,never mind reduction.
Now that's not pessimism , or my wish, believe me .
I wish it wasn't the case but we will see severe restrictions before we come out if this , at least until mid February .

I think restrictions will be in place past Patricks Day.

They may well open for political reasons but I can't see many kids being in.

Backlog was about 10k and swabs for the last 3 days were around 4500 or more so if swabs stayed consistent we could have only cleared 500/1000 off the backlog

Were the swabs not reporting around 4500 last time they were released? Regardless, it's all academic if we don't know the swabs for today.
