That’s the kind of thing that just pisses people off.

It's also the kind of thing that they can't realistically enforce so why let it piss you off.

Report just now on rte that governments still fully intend to open schools as a safe environment.would like to see the basis for that assertion given the huge number of cases and the hugely increased transmission rate of new varient?

Seems like hospital admissions will far outnumber the April peak now. Although ICU admissions still look to remain well below that peak although perhaps there's a lag for icu.

How many drunks just show up because they are drunk? Doesn't make sense. Most would have some sort of injury from being drunk from falling/fighting etc.

Judging by the complains from people I know working in A&E 100s a night in every hospital. Probably much less in reality but still enough to annoy A&E staff.

The amount I've heard he was asleep in the bus and the bus driver didn't want to wake him so called an ambulance.

Probably less people drunk falling and fighting too with the pubs being closed.

They closed none essential retail without showing the evidence they used, why would you think they will show evidence this time?

I wonder what the true infection numbers were back in Q1 2020. The official numbers are only a fraction of the true I'd say (due to testing limitations, asymptomatic cases etc).

Yep... they will introduce meaningless and unenforceable distance travel measures on the resident public, while ignoring the elephant in the airport.

Tens of thousands visited the country over Christmas with no checking on how they isolated - it didn't even make sense for them to come, if they did isolate, so I expect practically none of them did.

They must have been a contributory factor, but the powers that be never even bothered to look, because they already know the answer, and knew it while it was happening. Christmas was a 'acceptable risk gamble' for the government, that went badly wrong.

Letting people in with no checks. Off they go to restaurants and bars and meeting up with family and friends. NPHET advised that they couldn't have both restaurants open and allow household visits at the same time. Which kind of makes sense. Pick up infections while out and bring it home. There's no control in that. The government allowed both.

What contagious disease did they have last year?

Winter vomiting bug, but it's not directly comparable.

I am really starting to resent the fact that I may not be able to travel more than 2km from my home just so people could come home from abroad completely unchecked, others could pile in to houses without a care in the world and the HSE could spend 9 months with their heads in the sand

    Yes

We should have went the New Zealand route in March, becoming so clear now

Bordered up the north, stop travel. We are an Island it could have been done

Western countries have been shown up as fools by the East

Chinese must be laughing their asses off at us right now

We are a pack of thickos

I'm not sure if the current non-ICU admissions can be directly compared with April. Hospital admissions are always higher at this time of year. There must be a level of admissions for other illness and conditions, who happen to test positive,
but are admitted for non-covid conditions.

I would think the ICU numbers are a better comparison.

You will be able to travel any distance you wish from your home with a valid reason. The 5km or 2km suggestion is for excerise only.

What is NPHET's advice on schools? Surely they can't be advising government that schools are safe based on our numbers?

OK in that case I'm starting to resent having to go through a checkpoint and answer for my movements or only exercise within 2-5km

Israel area also planning a 3 week gap from 10th to 31st Jan as they start giving their second doses.

Have you an alternative suggestion? The idea is stop the spread .

    Neither figure is really comparable.

In April we didn't have treatment options other than paracetamol and ventilation so icu happened a lot more.

Also we were using hospital beds as isolation facilities when needed. That isn't done now.

They have paid massively over the odds per dose.
    $62 Vs €15.50

    Have you an alternative?

    1. Put proper testing and quarantine measures for international travellers
    2. Enforce all rules across the board
    3. Remove all the loopholes and exceptions from the rules/recommendations
    4. HSE get their house in order

It would take quite some time to do the above. The excerise restrictions overnight. Completely unenforceable of course but they have learned the majority are quite happen to follow any guidance they dream up without question.

Stop the spread? And yet the government allowed the spread over the Christmas.

Let's first see how effective the current restrictions are.
I would expect these restrictions, combined with the time of year, will bring the situation back to some level of control by early Feb.

I wouldn’t bother to be honest , why ZC is unrealistic has been explained multiple times across multiple threads. It’s a dog whistle at this stage.

Do you have a timeline and plan for how to achieve this strategy?
    Costs would also be useful.

The government lifted restrictions, I don’t think government officials forced people to meet up go for pints etc. Personal responsibility and all that.
