there are 153 on trolleys in irish hospitals as we speak, there were nearly 5 times that many this time last year and the hospitals coped no problem. We are a long long way from not coping.

But this is a serious pandemic. The hospital numbers can massively increase very quickly. So, 5 times is not as much as you might think.

Different circumstances. The covid virus takes longer to treat, more time and resources involved and doctors and nurses are off sick because they have the virus too.

The two situations you mention are not directly comparable in terms of the effect they have on service provision.

Would it not depend on what the patient is presenting with?

One of the benefits of our inept health system is they can cope with more than 100% capacity. The NHS is creaking at the seams and they are barely pushing 100%. We have cancelled so much elective procedures that we have the ability to deal with the numbers. Sad but true.

They really need to sort the reporting out, a significant amount of people haven't a breeze that our cases are in the thousands a day and that absolutely effects decisions.

So other parents who have no choice but to go to work such as frontline workers doctors/nurses/AGS are irresponsible if they send their children to school. You do really like to label other people don’t you?

A parents number one aim is to protect his/her children. I can't speak for people I don't know but any parent I have spoke with isn't sending their kids back.

You'll have to make your own choices as an adult

Again why refuse to answer the question? are frontline workers irresponsible if they send their children to school. A nurse can’t bring their child to work. It’s easy for you to sit at home pontificating whilst others have no choice but to work.
I’ll be going to work tomorrow thankfully luckily I don’t have the nightmare of childcare.

How many on trolleys if hospitalisations increase by 25%, 50%, 100%?

I think anyone who speaks English knows ad nausium what the number are. When the non essential retail was busy over Christmas it was full of people for whom English would not be their first language. Why has there been no campaign targeting them? I have literally not heard or seen one ad in any medical directed at non English speakers.

I suspect there might be tighter restrictions, however the 2k rule is obnoxious end of.

It would be a ridiculous move.
Good luck on them trying to enforce it.

So you don't have kids to protect from a dangerous environment so it's easy for you to sit at home pontificating about other people's choices.

Construction workers will be coming down in car loads tomorrow when things start up again though.

    You can only laugh

2km from your home is dangerous
    Airports? La la la lalala

Yep... they will introduce meaningless and unenforceable distance travel measures on the resident public, while ignoring the elephant in the airport.

Tens of thousands visited the country over Christmas with no checking on how they isolated - it didn't even make sense for them to come, if they did isolate, so I expect practically none of them did.

They must have been a contributory factor, but the powers that be never even bothered to look, because they already know the answer, and knew it while it was happening. Christmas was a 'acceptable risk gamble' for the government, that went badly wrong.

Don’t worry, I’m sure Eamon will outline the peer reviewed scientific data he is using for this suggestion. He definitely didn’t pull it out of his behind.

Any chance you will say what frontline staff should do? Your refusal to answer suggests another poster was right that you are only an agitator.

We've taken steps this year we wouldn't in other years. Some are good things some are bad things.

Last year if a drunk showed up in A&E the response would be 'put him on a trolley let him sleep it off. Check on him regularly to make sure he isn't choking on his own vomit'

This year if a drunk shows up in A&E the response is 'Security. Ask him to leave'

There has been mass cancellations in so called elective procedures. Ques are building up for stuff like knee replacements and hip replacements.

A lot of people keep saying its cheap childcare but do they think there are loads of childcare spaces available if the schools close?

That people can just leave their kids in to go to work. And all they are worried about is the cost.

There are no other options for children if you don't have family to mind them.

Those selfish parents going to work.

How many drunks just show up because they are drunk? Doesn't make sense. Most would have some sort of injury from being drunk from falling/fighting etc.

I said I can't speak for people I don't know. You really need to read posts properly

If you aren't up for a discussion ignore is definitely the root to go. I will refuse to do likewise as I've no issue with discussion

Absolute nonsense and completely unenforceable. It might work if everything was closed (including schools, constructionL non essential manufacturing etc) like last March. But with so much open there are too many people moving around to be able to identify someone outside of their 2km.

In short, of they do the 2km thing I think everything has to shut down

What contagious disease did they have last year?

Israel plan to have 2 million of their citizens vaccinated by the end of January. They really have taken this seriously
