Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Was wondering have you made up the cumulative total of rain for 2020 and was it much higher then previous years ,I would be about 14 miles north of Tralee near the coast so probably similar to you

Have a total of 1235.1mm for 2020 but I am not totally confident of that figure, I had a few glitches during the year, nothing too far off though ( bucket got clogged with leaves a couple of times and when I freed it the water amount would not have recorded properly ). If I was to guess from memory I would think by adding another 50mm would give a more accurate figure. I do keep a fairly close watch on the manual gauge as well and it is very close if not exact to the Automated Station . Have never been disciplined enough to record the manual gauge, I might make it a new years resolution !

Will check out some local annual reports to compare.

Interesting, I've a WSW breeze here (south Laois) and it's -1.1c (up from -1.9c).

There should be a convergence zone somewhere up over Carlow County or western Wicklow County.

Still NNE here gusting to 20kmh
Showers popping up off the wicklow coast are very close to the coast now
Temp stayed a steady 2 to 3c all night
    Wet bulb 0.7c
    Dp -1.6c currently
When they start making landfall today,am expecting a sleet rain hail mix but should easily be snow further inland and certainly above 100 metres

Frost never cleared in the gardens. My dog was recently running around on top of the pond, frozen over and not a creak to be heard. Temperature is 0.8c and falling rapidly. Showers building and approaching in the Irish sea, 40km to my east. What can go wrong!

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 16,960 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzo

very heavy frost last night and early this morning. Frost melted during the afternoon and can still hear the drip sounds of from the gutters. Getting cloudier here after a mostly sunny day. Frost here in Meath unlikley to be as severe as last night with those onshore sea breezes keeping us a bit milder tonight.

0.7c in north Kildare with a frost that never cleared. Showers approaching from the north east.....will be interesting to see what falls from them here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,323 ✭✭✭highdef

Light snow in North Kildare. Won't be heavy enough to lead to accumulations but it is sticking where it lands as the ground is frozen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,323 ✭✭✭highdef

Neighbour in the Donadea area of North Kildare is reporting moderate snow which is leading to slight accumulations, about 4/5km south of me. Just a flurry here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,323 ✭✭✭highdef

Recent light snow shower. Moderate to heavy shower passing a few kilometres to me north. Temperature has risen from 0c to 0.3c.

This "current weather conditions" thread is quieter than I expected so I reckon my recent snow showers are a rarity owing to me being far enough inland to be cold enough but not so far inland that the showers have died out.
