-0.6c here in Waterford City under clear skies. Being 10km from the coast will always limit lows except when snow cover helps keep cold locked in.

-7.1 North Offaly. Hard to say where this could end up. - 9 perhaps by dawn?

It's actually risen a bit - 6.0 now. Minimum was - 7.5. Not sure why it fluctuates like that, could drop again later.

Marine Layer, ah no! On a more serious note, it's just run-of-the-mill mixing of air. On a still night, colder air will pool or flow downwards to the lowest point locally. If any bit of a breeze picks up, it will mix the slightly milder air aloft down into the pool and raise the temperature for a wee while. If that breeze stops again, the cold pool "resets" and continues it's loss of heat. Rinse and repeat and eventually it gets very cold by dawn, thats if the breeze gives up! :)

Might also be relatively cheap Weather station moment. It's back to - 7.1... I've been happy with it though.

Cheap weather stations will do better in the cold than they ever will in the heat. In the dead cold still of late night, there are very little interrupters about to sway it's readings.

I've mine on a circular plinth of blocks about 3 feet high with the metal tripod bolted in, no major buildings nearby, 8 ft above grass, currently with some frozen snow. Love the ease of immediate internet access to readings....

Anyway, were back to - 7.3. Time for sleep and we'll see how low it goes later.

FWIW, it should be 4ft above the grass! :)

You’d have to be grateful for not being one of the homeless living in a tent last night.

You’d have to be grateful for not being one of the homeless living in a tent last night.

I'd hope many would have taken the hostel option even for one night, though many don't like them for various reasons.

Anyway it's - 8.3 and a shallow fog has formed.
