Great, more restrictions on the responsible who have little left to give, while the irresponsible will carry on as normal and be "shocked" when they get Covid.

Any word about enforcement of these new rules?

    In what way?

Are you sending the kids to stand outside the school gates? Are you going to march up and down outside Woodies?

Would you not stick within 5k? You could still exercise surely. Anyway, each to their own. Stay safe.

Saw that 41 year old Congressman in the US died today with no underlying conditions and it scared the bejaysus out of me. Personally, I'll be sticking to it.

Saw that too and from my reading, he didn't have underlying conditions?

MM said that it allows a full sufficient time for the level 5 measures to kick in, thereby having reduced the spread before schools open, making it safer to open the schools. It makes sense to me. I'm looking forward to seeing my kids go back to school.

The onus is now on parents to limit their children's interactions ahead of the reopening - teenagers in particular.

Based on our current trajectory, its going to be worse on the 11th, what will the rationale be for opening when its worse than when we kept them closed

Very. They advise not decide. They have no great control over what the government ultimately do.

Yes but shouldn't they be giving their advice to government on schools, they give advise on every other aspect.

They have also slashed the PPE budget for schools in term 2 which will effect saniisers etc needed for hand washing etc.

That's the least of our problems at this time. Enjoy your time off.

Well lots of people will probably go anyway, it's not like it will be enforced. But lots of people will also pay heed to the new 5km guidelines, so that's why it's worth announcing these restrictions.
I'm pretty sick of listening to people moaning about not being able to go to the bloody mountain and forests ffs. Tough!

    It will be tough.
The outdoors is great for people's mental health.

What we need is for these idiots to be refused from hospital for non covid issues because the hospital is full of covid patients.
See how immune they are from covid when they can't get treatment for a heartattack or similar emergency situation.

Seems these people think covid patients go to different hospitals than the rest of us.

Sounds sensible that if you're a business that can operate an online-only or pickup business you can continue. This wasn't the case the first lockdown. It will encourage business to modernise rapidly and move online.

The problem with all of these restrictions is that so many people think they are some kind of special exception, or they think they're the only ones not abiding by them so it will be ok. And the amount of people who have only recently become obsessed with forest/ mountain walking is unprecedented. Before covid they all thought the mountains were a mural backdrop :)

And if you travel 10kms from your house and meet no-one what's the problem? I have a hike planned for 1 January, 80kms from my house. How am I spreading covid ?

I don't get it - surely going to an empty beach is 100% safe and safer than going to the nearest essential shop. Why would you stop?

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Where did I say anything about closing everything forever?

I just want them to stop making stupid blanket statements like "x is safe".

My children went back to school in Sept. They've been kept in their pods of 5 consistently. There was 2 cases identified in the school but because they were on top of the protocols, there was no further spread of the virus. Children and the wider community are better served with children being in school. Otherwise they'll be spending their days hanging around outside the local Tesco.

National deaths and new case numbers/averages/percentages since the introduction of Level 3 on December 1st

5 day/7 day rolling percentage numbers have dropped indicating unreported or undiagnosed cases that would have normally appeared on 27th and 28th so still a backlog of cases due. All current case numbers are almost in-line with numbers we saw when Level 5 was introduced for October 22nd so it looks like range of 8,000 weekly cases and a 5 day average of 1,200 is the current trigger point

There's a lot worse they could be doing. Going for a walk up a mountain (or let's say a forest path) is one of the safest things to be doing, and good for your mental and physical health. No-one realistically can stay inside their homes for weeks on end, and we achieve a lot of harm reduction by steering people away from risky behaviours towards less-risky behaviours.
