NPHETs job is to advise the government. They advised that, based on their models, 6 weeks of lockdown would get us to 50 - 100 cases a day and cases would start rising again in mid January.

Their advice was wrong. Hopefully they can provide better advise next time.

I cant but help thinking that the government manipulate the numbers for announcement days.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Course you don't, you and lots of others didn't get the big deal. Now we are screwed again.

Gas thing is youll be on here tomorrow or whenever talking about people's mental health or job losses totally oblivious or having any self awareness people like yourself are part of the problem with your few nights out.

After 10 months of this if it hasn't clicked by now it never will.

I didn't break any guidelines when I went out though.

But we were locked down for 6 weeks, if we hadn't opened up it would have meant lockdown with no social outlets for 9-12 weeks.

Who mentioned no social outlets though? There was a choice given by NPHET between opening up hospitality or increasing household visits. Reality is household visits can't be controlled so opening up hospitality led to both happening.

Is it the same rules around retail as we had in November? i.e click and collect is allowed

I'd imagine so but will need to wait for the announcement

    Seems like the last lockdown

Hopefully the government open the schools over Easter to make up for the lost time.

The government diverged from NPHET advice was that my fault?

We all have to do the best we can - if you went out to have a pretend substantial
meal so you could quaff alcohol with people not in your household then you are falling short of best practice during a viral pandemic.

Your defence is a bit "I was only following orders"

who opened businesses again in December? was it your neighbour or the Government? Are we still pretending the country is plagued with project X house parties?

    Business owners opened businesses again.

Some people took the fair piss with it tbf. A few nights out would be one thing, I've had people im friends with in Instagram out every night of the week with a different set of people and at a different bar.

Imo, the ones who went out for a few meals/drinks over the few weeks is grand, but some took it as a I haven't been out in ages, let's go out every night before they lock down again

This is what happens when you subject a country to nine months of sustained lockdowns with very little reprieve. People are human and for the most part have simply had enough of this charade.

We could have avoided all of this had we went with measured, sustainable measures from the start and stuck with them.

The latest knee-jerk Lockdown 3 is like an obese person deluding themselves that this time things will be different, the crash diet will somehow work and they won't put all the weight (and more) back on the minute they come off it.

Why are they not flat out giving the vaccine to the most vulnerable?

They don't have enough vaccines in the country as far as I know

Its general secretary John Boyle wrote to Minister for Education Norma Foley last night saying nearly 700 children of primary school age tested positive for the virus in the fortnight before schools closed for Christmas.

But people are convinced schools are not an issue. Mind boggles.

Thats only a small percentage of schools tested. Wonder how many siblings and parents passed it on from the schools from other people.

Schools are dangerous, close them down.

Where did Boyle access that data?

Woodies sell bulbs, they’re essential, they sell plumbing supplies also essential, you know stuff wears out and people don’t tend to have an extensive supply of essential items just waiting at home. What may not be essential to you or needed by you doesn’t apply to everyone else just because you think it should

Every supermarket also sells bulbs, so your argument there is null and void.

As for parts, well their local tradesman can sort them out.

These massive stores don't need to be open for ''light bulbs''.

They could allow proper supply stores for parts etc to be opened, not woodies or similar covid spreading places. Just cause you didn't bother to prepare that's not the rest of the publics fault. Tough sh!t on you pal

Nphet have only one remit. Response to COVID. The government has a whole raft of other considerations to contend with.

They havent tried closing the pubs and leaving the restaurants open. Restaurants are the easiest to control of the 3.

Centra sells bulbs as do Lidl. You'll be fine.

There's no country that's avoided what we're going through in all of Europe and pretty much the entire world. I've a pain in my hole with some people thinking that there was some other alternative course of action that would have made this go away.

The government are managing a problem with no right answer. Until the vaccine is widely distributed they are just choosing between sh!t options and worse ones. They've undoubtedly made mistakes, that'll happen when you're reacting to a once in a century pandemic, but they've done pretty well on the whole.

Most people didn't do that though. Those people are just selfish (insert curse word of your choice). The ones who did are the ones who helped increase the spread imo.
