  • In the Christmas context there are also likely a lot of people with symptoms keeping quiet as they know they have broken guidelines by going against advice and are feel like they cannot present to the authorities. This could further exasperate the problem.

The schools aren't going to stay closed until March. The government are not going to put people out of work again for another 2 months.

Even INTO asked for only until the 11th Jan.

You have absolutely no way of knowing that.

If you'd done the research and being paying attention you'll of noticed the situation is a rapidly developing one as I pointed out several times over the last few weeks.

31 January is a sensible review date. No shocks in any of it at all.

I would suggest both. I don’t agree with using schools as a babysitting service but pragmatic enough to know for many it is. Also it can the one environment where certain children feel safe and nurtured.

I would agree that schools should not be regarded as a baby sitting service, and would be very uncomfortable if that were the case.

But as to your point re a safe environment, the reality is that schools are safer than youngsters congregating in large numbers.

Well I hope that everyone who advocated ignoring restrictions, and meeting people without a concern for how this would affect others are happy with themselves.
Can you name some of these people you are referring too?

They didn't give a sh1t about the collective before and I don't see them caring now.

I’m not just referring to COVID. For many children school is the only source of structure they experience and for many it’s also a guaranteed meal each day.

That's a strange way to think about people. They weren't deliberately trying to spread the virus.

There was no way I wasn't going to meet my family for Christmas regardless of what rules were in place. Need to put the blame on the government that continue to keep their people in confinement then act shocked when they get a little freedom.

Fact of the matter is kids going to school enables many adults to work.

I don't know if the area I am in is unique, but any time the schools are closed here the kids are all out mingling. Even when they are at school, they are all mingling in the evenings. This is not going to change.

I think some have this picture in their head that kids are now going to be sitting in the house isolating like everyone else.

Let’s get real. The schools either need to be closed or not. Closing them for a few days is pointless. The government want to close them for a long period but are peeing their pants again. So, they are dribbling out the bad news again rather than being upfront.

I would think that parents should take responsibility for their children and tell them they cant meet at the moment like they did in MArch April.

Re childminding as I said elsewhere this was the Minister for Education's attitude to schools mentioning childminding necessities and not education, which is sad and wrong.

Oh I thought he was referring to posters here. Pointless ranting here if the people he is chastising don’t frequent boards.

so let me get this straight - you're blaming the current rapidly escalating numbers on the government trying to reduce the numbers?

    jesus wept.

This is actually a massive drop in the growth rate compared to yesterday.

But not sure how much stock can be put in that.

at the risk of getting sucked into the backlog debate, it sure looks like we have a backlog of a few thousand now.

Loads of people down through the weeks and months have been posting in this thread about how they don't follow restrictions/think it's all nonsense etc, etc.

Don't be silly you know there has been.

You are looking in the wrong places. Schools during lock in last year ran breakfast clubs and delivered food to kids so they got dinner. Permission was given for this to conitinue through lockdown. Hopefully the same now for the few days.
