Probably. But if it is, it shows that the youngsters will gather like that if they are not at school.

So which is worse from a public health perspective?

The Brits and their invasions. Always the way

It's mad to think but if the Dominic Cummings incident was dealt with in a proper manner from the offset, both the UK and Ireland may well be in a much better place now.

From talking to friends and family in the UK, that is where the message was lost and things fell asunder over there.

Will they introduce a curfew from tomorrow evening for 48 hours?

    No chance.

How could they police it, especially on such short notice?

More to the point, who would police it?

Course. I saw them necking cans in various laneways, among groups, back between April and June.

Don't hold it against them though. I'd probably be that way too if I was their age. The "invincibility of youth"

This demonstrates that non essential retail should be shut for a couple of weeks.

Or at least non essential retail outlets in enclosed spaces.

And then of course the bad feeling towards The Tories doesn't help either

I don't think that message has been delivered clear enough right on the evening before New Year's. At this point people will proceed with plans and "chance it".

It's needs Mícheál Martin staring into the lense of the camera and speaking directly to the nation.

The problem is that he comes across as a very weak leader and inspires no confidence whatsoever. The time to have been decisive was prior to all of the Christmas movement. Now it just comes across as trying to close the barn door and the horse is long long bolted

Assuming the cabinet meeting hasn't taken place yet as there's been no leaks yet? Unless they've taken Leo's phone off him for the day.

I know the backlog never truly gets fulfilled, with repeat tests and whatnot, but there's a lot of potential building...

It's almost as if we won't have online retail if they close non essential shops.

There is a dilemma for the authorities here. There is a cohort in society who are quite cavalier about all this and need the risks spelt out in the starkest terms.

On the other hand there are those who - broadly- follow guidelines, behave responsibly. For these, to consistently paint the bleakest picture might be counter productive.

So how best to get balance in reporting? Very hard to know, but one can only assume that the bleakest picture approach is the better choice.

Need to get Colm Henry and Paul Reid doing an exercise video / workout to the Message , for the crowd they need to reach then , because that shower ain't looking at the pressers!

Yeah, thousands of people are cramming into a huge shopping centre to buy non-essential things during a crisis point in a pandemic.

I'm not going to demonise them, but that's a hell of a lot of people who should know better.

Indeed. And I was just pointing out the kids have to wear masks in shops and socially distance when queueing.

I believe a poster earlier suggested giving the 1000’s out of work enforcement powers. Batsh*t crazy thought tbh.

I think that’s unfair to him. (I’m not normally a supporter btw).

But had he battened down harder pre Christmas he would have been eaten alive, and more importantly may have lost complete control of the situation.

Is that compared to a normal Wednesday or a Wednesday before new year's eve. Massive difference.

I'd say Leo can tweet with the phone while it's still in his pocket.

Just like Matt Damon in The Depawted.
