You should use auto select network. What I mean is have you ever used Three, or Tesco mobile or Lycamobile in your house? It might be that you just don't have a strong enough Three signal in your area or if those other networks work it might actually be a dodgy SIM.

If Eir works well in your area you could try GOMO. If Vodafone works best, try Post Mobile.

First time any non-VF network was used in house is me last week switching to Three.

I know that GoMo runs on Eircom, but I did not know about Post mobile, thank you.

About to order a sim to try this out. Anyone want to send me a referral code to use? Thanks

    Thanks. Here's mine...

Anyone else having trouble sharing data? (Or anyone succeeding in sharing data?)
I have at least a dozen contacts on 48 but the app only loads a few of them. And when I request data from one of them, it says "Server is not responding. Please try again later.".
It's been doing that since October. Support have referred it to "the team" who seem to ignore it.

Is it possible to add another sim to an account or does it have to be purchased with a different email account?

I asked support - one email per number.

Ya I added a . to my gmail to create another. A bit annoying as on GoMo you could add another sim to the same account

Does anyone know how Brexit will affect data roaming in NI on a 48 sim? A percentage of data is available currently for the EU, which NI will technically not be in after Thursday.

I can't find anything mentioning Brexit on the 48 site. What about other providers? This could be very significant for border counties and cross border workers.

Afaik they all announced they would not be charging extra for roaming in the uk

Only realised this now so thought I'd share it here - while you're out of membership with 48 you're not allowed to use the credit on your account. I have about €8 credit but I'm not in a membership so I can't use it for calls or texts or to activate iMessage.

My fear in relation to the current deal is that while they won't charge extra per se, the inclusive package would become roaming EXclusive outside of the EU.

Texting and phone calls to NI numbers from RoI are not covered at the moment with 48, though using the 028 prefix covers landlines. I hope we don't have to buy extra data packages to cover us on the same island in future.

I ported to 48.ie / Three on Sat 19th Dec.

I now plan to leave them.

I was with Vodafone, SIM-only bill-pay, but I don't want to be paying 35 pm month.

It seems Vodafone and Eircom have the best mobile networks.

Thanks to advice here, I now know that An Post mobile runs on VF network.

So I plan to switch to them today, although I note there is no bill-pay offer, it is prepaid / buying credit, 15 euro per 28 days, which I have done once before, and didn't like.

I will have to put up with it, to access the VF network.

Is it possible that you have data roaming switched off or your network selection not set to automatic? I've been with them since September and haven't seen a drop like that.

Post mobile have the option of auto topup, it can be setup on site, you get full month instead of 28 days, and 10 eur free credit

Data roaming is switched off, yes, but surely that applies just to travel abroad?

Network operators is set to Select Automatically.

You need data roaming on otherwise you won't have access to all the cell towers

At my desk in my house now.

No signal at all, circle with diagonal line through it - that comes and goes.

I am switching to An Post tonight.

Would you mind showing us a screenshot of what icon you are seeing intermittently? Are you in a particularly rural location? If you are out in the shops or somewhere else do you get signal?

I am not in a rural location.

The house is in an estate in a village/small town of 5,000 people.

As I walk 500m towards the village centre, the signal improves.

But at the house, no signal.

People ring me, the phone doesn't ring, and at their end, they get a voice "the person can not be contacted".

I am looking at phone screen now, very top right is the normal battery power symbol.

Beside that is the signal strength indicator.

Sometimes, I see zero bars indicated.

    Sometimes, two bars.

Sometimes, a circle with a diagonal line.

Just as I am watching it now, the two bars switched to the circle.

Also, every so often a message displays on the screen: SIM data refreshing.

What type of phone are you using?

If it's a 2G only phone then that would be a possible explanation for the problems described....any of the providers on Three's network have poor 2G coverage compared to Eir and Vodafone.

    Samsung Galaxy A20e

    I see a COMREG map of 2G / 3G / 4G coverage - is there a map of normal phone signal??

I just want to make and/or receive a call!!

    2G/3G is for calls.
    3G/4G is for data.

Coverage map should be reasonably accurate for determining if it's a signal problem.

    Hi Guys,

I am looking a phone plan similar to 3three which I have now, I am paying 20 euros per month for 80GB of data. I do not have broadband in the house so tether hotspot to my laptop too. I use around 80GB per month.

My question is, is the 7.99 deal worth swapping over too or is the price too good to be true? It says you get 100GB but you can add on extra data which seems little strange as that is a lot of data to use in a month.

I was also considering GOMO for 13 euros per month.

Any advice for which is the best of the three? I am located right in the centre of town so service should not be an issue, although I do find 3three very laggy at times.

    Thanks for any advice.

The key is coverage. If you're happy with the coverage you're getting from Three then 48 should be fine and it's the cheapest and offers the most data.

If you'd like to try it before porting I have a spare unused physical sim which Im happy to post to you. Just PM me your address.

I moved from 3 to 48, and while they're the same network, I was getting higher speeds on 3. My speed on 48 is fine for me, as it's just my phone, but might be something to bear in mind if you're using the data for a laptop. I have no experience of Gomo, so can't help there.

48 is on the 3 network so coverage should be similar, speeds might not be.
Personally I'd try 48 now before the €7.99 offer expires and if you're not happy with it you can switch to GOMO later.

The below is a general 'signature' and not part of any post:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

I was using GOMO and found it slow but consistent around 7-8 MBPS and it has a 120GB allowance.
48 I’m currently finding all over the place on speed albeit with very fast off peak but almost nothing or total data failure at peak periods.
The biggest issue and one they are looking at but have not followed up on yet is they’re counting data usage at two to three times my actual as measured by my well proven and very conservative phones meter. Also like you I know what my usage pattern is and I’m not using 70Gb a week as 48 claim even if their speeds were reliable enough to do so. While trying to decide which to stick with and using both I’d probably go with GOMO in your position as Netflix was always useable over the last 9 months even if I rarely got the promised 4G.

PS anyone figure a way to exchange my GoMo number for my 48 number so I can keep my cheap GOMO deal for when my 48 data counts out?

Thanks for the info, I do not think I would want anything slower than 3, it can be painfully slow at time and I am centre of Wexford. Thanks
