I did like the "the club is part of me and I of it, cut me and I bleed red" rebuttal!

city must be riddled with covid (i am skeptical) as the rules for 20/21 state: "permission will not be granted to postpone a League match where the applicant club has 14 or more players listed on its squad list available".

as an aside the league cup manchester derby will also not be forfeit as: The rules in the competition changed from the fourth round, meaning games are no longer forfeited, as long as they are rearranged at the earliest reasonable opportunity.

Just as an edit: I'd argue it teaches resource management and physical limitations and the importance of squad management and teamwork and that it's not possible to play every minute of every game.

    :D

    Very good!

Perhaps not riddled, but with the amount of people that are close contacts by definition, that means those players would not be available

    Well, you DID ask!

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Positive cases at Man City include Ederson, Jesus, Cancelo & Torres.

There are positive cases at Arsenal too, in Gabriel and David Luiz & William are unavailable because they showed symptoms.

Now at Spurs, Vinicius & Lucas Moura are also unavailable for an undisclosed matter.

Maybe the online rumours that there was a large Christmas party between a group of footballers of a certain nationality, and their friends, is true.

close contacts don't matter as they are all tested is my understanding. otherwise, 1 positive case in a club would rule out the entire squad as close contacts.

I'd guess myself that it was more a house party overnight in London. Man city are saying that the cause of their outbreak was the hotel in London. Maybe they should look at their players instead (again).

There was a thread ages ago, not sure if somebody remembers where absolutely brilliant posts went. When people got called out on their sh1t etc. One was like a novel of quotes etc.

I feel like this post belongs in that thread :pac:

If anyone can link me to that thread it will be much appreciated

Maybe that's the difference between our clubs. I feel part of mine. Ever go to Anfield? YNWA!

    Yes, actually.
Pity about all the dilapidated houses around the ground owned by the club. How many families evicted out of the houses just so they can build a few bigger stands?

Hassenhuttel will miss Southamptons match tonight after someone in his household tested positive.

This spate of PL infections feels like its reaching critical mass...would imagine the PL will have to react with something.
Maybe just take Kyle Walker's phone off him.

Dilapidated - How defences felt when a long throw by Stoke ended up in them conceding a goal, even though it was the first time the ball had been in their penalty area all game.

    I think that's it.

PL may consider team bubbles. Nobody in bar players, coaches and other staff. Pity some players can't be trusted to behave responsibly

A number of Sheffield United players have tested positive for Coronavirus yet their match with Burnley tonight goes ahead

Worked well for the NBA playoffs, but it’s unsustainable for the length of the league season.

They could maybe do with a 2 week league lockdown - no games, no travel, no team training - like we had with the longer shut-down last season. Player households avoid contact with the outside world. Try to start from a clean slate. Though even 2 weeks would cause scheduling chaos. They’ve backed themselves into a corner a bit by trying to play out a full season with so little margin for error.

Are there any midweeks with no games for rest of season? Or is it dependent on cup runs?

The cases at Man City were not included in the 18 positive cases reported in the latest round of PL testing.

Either were the numerous cases at Sheffield United. But Sheffield United's game is still going game ahead.

Either postpone all games where a club has multiple cases, or none of them. Why just the one game?

This is the only way I can see the season continuing.

With 40,000 cases a day I can only see positive PCR test increasing from now on.
If anyone can remember back to March..., what levels of positive tests were there before season was suspended then?

I can see pro-sports (rugby, horse racing) being suspended now across Europe.
Positive cases across UK/Ireland/France within pro sports teams are at tipping point.

Games will be postponed as entire squads will need to be tested.
We could see an extension of the season yet.

How will that happen with the Euros?

    When would they be played?
This season is already at bursting point with no free weekends & season finishing early in hope Euro 2020 will go ahead.

    53K cases in UK today.
This season is going to be over soon.

The Premier League season ends officially on May 23th and Euro's start on June 11th

Not much leeway there to extend the season.

No reason the Euros can't be pushed out a little. It's not as if travelling fans will be discommoded.

Open to being corrected but at time of suspension, I think in the EPL it was just one manager (Arteta) and zero players who had tested positive.
But we were in hugely unknown territory, no-one really knew what we were dealing with.
