Aren't swabs midnight to midnight and cases midday to midday?

    I always forget.

That might be it, I think cases are to midnight and swabs to midday though? The announcements about cases always reference midnight iirc

So swabs would include stuff from today that will be reported as cases tomorrow?

Tony Holohan: “The data we are reporting today are lower than days up to 26 December. This however results from factors related to the time of the year, such as the lower rates of attendance and referrals and presentation for testing for several days over Christmas.”

National new deaths and new cases/averages/percentages since the introduction of Level 3 on December 1st

Even with testing taking an effective backburner in Ireland over Christmas officially reported numbers have only flatlined. If reported case numbers have not leapt into the 2,000 range by Wednesday then a large number of people are rambling around undiagnosed with Covid which will only prolong this shhitshow longer into February

When these Christmas/St Stepehenseses day delayed cases come into the equation tomorrow/Wednesday it'll be nearer 2k than 1 and after that washes through it won't drop much I'd say. Proper level 5 on the way.

BTW I noticed that there was no live coverage of the briefing which feels remiss at a time like this.

It's based on number of positive swabs/ those testing positive in the community.

Yep shock and awe with the case numbers in the next few days to justify their level 5 lockdown with tweaks to make it more punitive and miserable.... hasn’t that been the modus operandi of feckit since forever

    and?!

Does it really matter that there is a press conference with George Lee wetting his pants about what Tony will say?

How many discharges? There were 350 in hospital yesterday I thought?

I'm pretty sure when you go in with covid you are there for 14 days regardless of how well you are doing. I wouldn't be expecting to see massive daily discharges on that basis.

The whole reason the numbers are what they are is because we've only ever been playing with the notion of a lockdown since May. We need to go nuclear for 6 weeks because of slack scared thinking by the politicians.

A family member of mine was in hospital for 8 days with Covid back in April.
    Fine now, thankfully.

The dashboard says 321 in hospital yesterday but that was the morning release.

The dashboard has 39 admissions and 7 discharges.

I think the numbers in hospital are released twice a day but admissions numbers are for the previous 24 hours.

I think the 350 cases yesterday was the hospital numbers in the evening.

Everyone knows they tweaked the numbers the week before restrictions were lifted, those tests will likely be added in now

They knew a Christmas lockdown wouldnt play well with the voters, give us all a few weeks respite in the hope that the inevitable January lockdown would be easier to enforce

Are private tests included in the daily swab numbers?

and why wouldn't they doctor figures today and yesterday? given we are just starting another lockdown and with the vaccine it would seem to be the best possible time since march to scare people into compliance.

or maybe, they aren't doctoring figures at all, cause that is absolutely ridiculous conspiracy theory ****e.

Part of it is lack of detailed contact tracing, are they still only going back 48 hours?

And do they even ask about recent travels?

Contract tracing is and always was a joke here.

Someone I know was alerted via the app that they were a close contact 8 days after the contact tested positive. Then was told not to arrange their own test but to wait for a call from the contact tracing team. That call never came.

There is so much wrong with the above and I'm sure it's not an isolated incident.

We were told from the start of this the main weapon in fighting it was a robust testing and tracing system that allowed us to test, track and isolate infected individuals within 24 - 48 hours. We have achieved none of this. Instead our answer is lockdown, lockdown, lockdown.

If you are asking people for buy in with restrictions the least you can do is get your house in order as regards testing and tracing along with increased hospital capacity. This was promised during lockdown mk1, but apart from increased testing capacity none of this has happened.
