best wishes hope all works out

    Fingers crossed
Timing of it os dreadful the missus comes out of isolation on Christmas eve so if anyone else testes positive they'll be sitting in there room Christmas day,

Im actually at the point of not worrying to much about the result more of how sick we get, Iv resigned myself to the fact that surely iv caught it off her

Neighbour of mine equally tested positive as a close contact, no symptoms. His wife and ten-year-old son both tested negative. So I wouldn't be so certain, especially if she feels fine.

    Really thats good to know
Sounds silly but the fact one of ours is still in his early months means we have been sleeping in spare rooms because im up so early for work so im hoping that goes on my favour here

Not sure if this is being repeated across the country but personally I know a few people who rang their GP looking for tests. No symptoms or anything just purely to have a negative result and plan to have family over. Seems silly to me personally as the test is only a moment in time
pointless I know someone who had a test on a Tuesday which came back as negative.
By Thu\Friday not feeling great but not 'covid' symptoms however a close contact from previous Sunday then notified them they had covid. Following Tuesday he tested again this time as a close contact it was positive.
First test was in advance of a hospital procedure which thankfully was cancelled and luckily he had only 2 close contacts him self in that week.

Exactly, their choice. My parents aren't taking the risk which is also their choice.

One other thing to lessen the risk is for you and your immediate family limit contacts as much as possible coming up to Christmas. know that's impossible for the kids being at school but probably more doable for yourselves.

Yeah I work from home, met friends for lunch last Thursday and that's me done, husband is working solo at the minute so is the same. All we can do, doesn't sit totally easy with me as I'm nervous for them, but they won't take no at this stage.

I have a vision of myself in the not too distant future feeling terrible regret that I didn't argue the merits of holding firm for just one Christmas till the vaccine arrives.

    .

I know, I'm the same, but I'll just try my best to keep it as limited touch wise (smallies) and that as possible. I hope I can actually relax and not worry that day!

My parents are the same. I can't help feeling a niggling in the back of my mind of how we will feel in 4 months time if one of them does pick up covid from us or the kids and things don't go well.

It's a bit like the stat on road crashes were a large percentage happen close to home where people relax just a little too soon.

I completely understand and agree with your point, but would you feel worse if you spent Christmas day waving through a window and something happened anyway? Every Christmas could be the final one, might as well make sure it's a good one.....

I posted a link to Google's Mobility Data yesterday - it's data they've gathered on our movement in the last year via Android phones.
It turns out that you can access the data in CSV and do as you wish with it.

So here's Ireland's entire pandemic for instance

    536217.png

It's a bit cleaner without park data

    536218.png

And here you can see the impact of restrictions. Nice to have no lag for a change.

    536219.png

Google also have the same data on county level. So next time someone asks "what the hell is going on in Donegal" we might just be able to answer them (assuming they have phones up there).
I'm interested to see if it's possible to predict outbreaks/declines with this.

Swab numbers starting to creep up. Thats 4 of the last 5 days over 300 (the other was 292) after only exceeding 300 swabs twice in the previous 11 days.

Also the 6th day in a row they are higher than the corresponding day last week.

No major uptick as yet, but the trend has been set I fear.

Think it's a bit early to see trend but guess it wouldn't be too surprising with the opening up since the 4th

With a lot more activity this is expected anyway so nothing unusual to fear! It will be interesting to see where it eventually holds. If it's below 1,000 a day that will be good.

    Crafty bastards......

They need to just approve it already. That’s another week away. There is zero chance that it won’t be approved. Literally zero. So why not just do it and get some at risk vaccinations done this side of Christmas. Bureaucracy costing lives

The difference from yesterday 555 extra tests has resulted in 64 more positive swabs.

No chance that will happen. Will stay rising. The Ro is above 1 and unlikely to get below that without strict compliance . This is the first time that many pubs/restaurants are open since March with schools open.

We need a few more days now to see if it plateaus a little bit at this point, or just keeps growing. The trend for the last week has been poor, and if extrapolated out to 6th January is grim. But it's too small a dataset to run decent projections on.

The next 3-4 days will tell us more.

It might be worth the Government signalling this as an issue now and pleading with people to plan their Xmas socialising properly; If you're planning on mixing households over Xmas, don't go to restaurants. And vice-versa.

Looks like the same crowd who parked that screen outside a GP clinic in Blanchardstown, that was 1-2 weeks ago.

Makes me wonder who funded all that.

Maybe it's just me, but I normally do a lot of stuff in the run-up to Christmas (meeting friends etc), but then very little post Christmas Eve. Dublin certainly is very quiet between Christmas and New Years. I'd be optimistic that case numbers will stabilise again early in the new year.

A good few itching for when they can use "exponential".

Once we have got through the main day and a few days afterwards it is usually quiet enough. I wonder how shops will deal with sales this year?

Apparently in Cork too. You'd wonder alright where they're getting funding!

307 or more reported cases tonight will give us 7 day average of over 300 cases per day for the first time in 3 weeks. George Lee will freak out on RTÉ news if that happens...

Growth rate is low. We are 2 weeks in now so very soon should see the impact of the easing more clearly. If the growth rate remains slow we have time to have a reasonable Christmas

Post Christmas, except more cases. But overall we are relatively better.
