Probably shouldn't have messed it up for themselves during the club championships then......

I didn’t hear of any issues in the Limerick, Waterford, Dublin or Mayo championships

Fair play to the GAA for getting the all irelands run off without much fuss.

It was after some county club finals that things really took off a few months ago!

The same type of celebrations could still happen afterwards, regardless if families could attend the games or not. At least that can be controlled, the celebrations cannot and are pretty much outside the control of the GAA.

Will be interesting though to see if case numbers rise in each winner’s respective countries. We’re safe enough now with Limerick winning, and I would imagine the same if Dublin win. Waterford and Mayo wins could mean complete carnage :pac:

Yeah in Limerick, it's funerals that cause cases!

    How so its all GAA

Because most of the issues surrounded post match celebrations and also the county finals were held in much smaller grounds that wouldnt have the infrastructure to ensure pahased entry and exit, social distancing etc

Speaking of, it will be interesting to see case numbers in Limerick over the next few weeks once our ethnic minority return to Rathkeale. Fair play to Pavee Point though, they called on travellers not to return home for Christmas

While not their fault, it was still very bad optics for the GAA and we got a lot of cases from those events in some parts of the country. They were never going to get any dispensation for this especially as the current public health message is not to congregate.

Well i would also have included the soccer cup finals. As i said we are going to have to start letting crowds back at some stage however limited and doing so in the bets two stadia in the country would have been a good place to start as a trial run.

Lowest incidence rate in Europe and the players still can’t have a couple of family members attend the finals in a stadium with over 80,000 capacity.

Xhrist!!! I'm a GAA fan but this is nonsense. We have these restrictions for a reason and the low incidence because of them. Suck it up!

Didn't expect that level of cases, are they all current or has there been a back log.

    198 are men / 230 are women
66% are under 45 years of age
The median age is 34 years old
122 in Dublin, 46 in Donegal, 30 in Limerick, 22 in Laois, 20 in Cork and the remaining 189 cases are spread across all other counties

No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change this World

Of course those celebration could have been controlled. The player could not have gone to pubs. when things were getting bad stop the celebrations. The places could have enforced restrictions

Swabs v cases was out by nearly 100 yesterday I think so you've probably a few there anyway.

Will know tomorrow what swabs were for today and get a better picture then

Oh i agree. What I mean is, after-match celebrations don’t fall under the control of the GAA. They rely on compliance at a local level.

Whatever about the rest of the country but Donegal never got any sort of let up in the numbers there. Alot to do with NI of course but level 5 never really had an impact there

Wasn't expecting such high numbers today and two weeks before Christmas. January will be grim if high numbers continue.

To be expected. Measures reduce numbers so reducing measures will increase numbers but we still have a bit of give for Christmas. Lockdown in January again then by the looks of it but we all knew that was happening.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,146 ✭✭✭✭Spanish Eyes

I realise that some of you are whizzers at the stats, I only ever looked at the bottom line myself with a bit of analysis from those of you who follow the trends.

Now we are nearly two weeks into relaxation of restrictions, and that is (I think) usually when trends and spikes show up. Although the numbers have increased, I would have expected it to be higher myself, and hope it doesn't spike too much.

Wishing for an enjoyable, but safe and sensible Christmas for ourselves and everyone else out there. I suppose we'll see soon enough.

This is not the time to do that and it would never be sanctioned. It'll be easier to do when we know there is a vaccine available and I'd say Feb-March.

That 429 came out of the blue, near 200 or more seems to be backlog cases.

Wait for the swab data tomorrow, we won't know until then. They should report swab data every day, not case data. The case data is far too erratic
