From what I'm aware of, the entire setup have had very sensible and implementable protocols in place since they've been back. So far so good and here's hoping that no mews regarding this side of things becomes an issue for either camp.

We started back training tonight with our underage team. One of the other managers said he expects Dublin to open an almighty can of whoopass on us. Was adamant it will happen due to Horans lack of ability to react "in game". This man and his family are big Mayo supporters but said Rochie always tailored games to the opposition which is very true.

I think this is entirely what Dublin won’t do . Yes they will try to impose them selves on the game early on as expected . But to think for a minute Dublin will go all out whoopass is wrong . In fact if they do that they will play into mayos chaotic hand and an all out gun sling of a first 20 minutes would favour our type of game . It would leave space up front and allow us to create goal scoring chances.

Most likely they will target our weak areas early on to gain dominance . Kickouts , a high press . Midfield . That alone should be enough to control in the manner in which their game can be imposed on the opposition . It’s a key to us also having some form of parity or better means our game plan can be imposed .

So key areas must be sorted . Mclaughlin as sweeper and O’Shea moving out for moving quarters .

Horan doesn't do a sweeper and if he does on Saturday then it'll be a complete about face.

When I saw whoopass I meant they will want to destroy us. They really cannot stand us.

I was thinking over that 10 minute period last year where we were destroyed by Dublin in the semi final .
Diarmud O’Connor was just back from a broken wrist and just as not 100 percent . Even diarmud would probably agree . We had tom Parsons come in I think also . Another man who just hadn’t the pace back after all he had being through . Lee was back recovered from the shoulder injury from the league campaign . That was our 2 goals coughed up . For some reason I think there was also a fitness reason with Marty Ruane also . Not to mention Cillian was also not niggle free either .

So clearly there are notable differences in our ability to take on Dublin from last year . To think we went in 2 up at half time was a phenomenal performance from our team with so many injuries .

Matthew Ruane was injured most of last season and I think only just got back in time for the Dublin game. IIRC a lot of injuries were picked up in training last year.

Diarmuid, Mattie and Donie Vaughan started the game last year when just back from injury. Donie only lasted 15 minutes. Colm Boyle injured his back during the game and had to be subbed. We also had just lost Jason to an ACL injury a week previous against Donegal.

It was definitely chaotic in terms of preparation last year.

The team that lined out v Dublin last year was a mix of something you would find in an army field hospital and an old folks home.

And it felt like it was very much the end of the road.

This team is the opposite, very injury free and plenty of (relative) youth.

Was definitely very all over the place last year. There was talk Aidan O'Shea was carrying something too after playing basically every game. I remember James Horan being asked about all the injuries and it being a bit of a tetchy exchange.

Teams would be public knowledge then. Probably won't be available until Saturday morning.

For the hurling the programmes were on sale yesterday in Limerick in Centra and SuperValu.

Enjoyed the win today for my adopted county but a win next weekend would mean so much more.

I'm not quite in the "Believe" camp yet....more "Cautiously Hopeful" right now

Yeah I'm not in it and I don't think I will be until Saturday. I'm thankful for the quiet buildup because I think there's less annoying the players

That said, living in Dublin, I'd be the first to be celebrating out the window!

Jayus a confident Mayo man.... wonders never cease.

To be honest I think it is up to Dublin and Mayo to save Gaelic games and put on a decent final. The small ball let the neutrals down. It is up to the big ball game to show how a final should be played.

    What odds a draw? ;) 10/1

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

    A bit Irish really .

Bandmember's point is well made nonetheless.

Does Stephen Coen possess of the mobility to stick with Fenton?

    Doubtful.

Then again Jack Barry has a history of doing a relatively good job on him and I don't recall him possessing of any great pace.

Just to be clear, I never said that Coen wouldn't have the mobility to stick with Fenton - I questioned whether he would have the pace to. Big difference.

Thanks for the compliment on the well made point though! :P:D

In my opinion, Coen definitely has the mobility and maybe i am way off the mark here but i think he has the pace too.

Please somebody correct me here if i am way off the mark. But I have never seen Fenton as a player that i would describe as pacey. Not like Jack McCaffrey or Paddy Durcan who i would certainly describe as pacey or fast.

I've gone through a few youtube clips there and i couldn't find any examples where he has burned his marker for pace and left them for dust. He is a big man, but i think his unnatural mobility gives an illusion of pace? Anytime i've watched him, when we could go to games, its his constant movement that ends up with his marker not sticking with him and him finding space. He is relentless. A bit like Andy in his last few years, he didn't have pace but his constant relentless movement allowed to find space and win ball.

Just to be clear, i am not saying he is not fast or anything. But i don't think his pace is his stand out differentiating quality if that makes sense? I'm also not saying his pace is in the realms of Andy the last few years.

I think Coen could keep tabs on Fenton the same way Jack Barry has done previously. Coen is fairly quick when he gets going. His problems come against the light agile forwards who turn him inside out. Fenton won't do that.

The problem is we've no obvious replacement for Coen in the backs. O'Hora didn't inspire much confidence the last day.

When he's not making the bench the last few games, he must be well off the pace. I'd be surprised if we see him at all.

We've come this far without the more experienced members. I would be very surprised if we see Higgins, Boyle, Vaughan or Seamie on the bench.

Indeed a tad steep but a simple process.

I could see it taking off going forward.

I know it's been said before, but we have a young tenacious back in Eoin O'Donoghue. An obvious replacement. But won't happen.
And also, who further up the field is going to make way for Stephen Coen to go midflied. Conor Loftus?
Anyway, I cannot see James Horan going down this route. I'm not saying he shouldn't. But I think he'll put his faith in some sort of semi-sweeper system, and hope to catch Dublin on the break. And I don't think that can be implemented in a matter of a couple of days, especially against a team like Dublin.

Loftus dropping out or moving to 11 in place of ROD would be the options but I can't see it happening either. I'm sure Horan's logic is that we have 2 scoring threats in midfield this year and that will occupy the Dublin midfield and stop them from attacking as much.
