From reading the story, it seems that the issue was people going to the pub having already been somewhere else and had a meal there and subsequently didn’t want a meal in the second pub - fair enough, that’s understandable.
But isn’t this situation the exact scenario that the regulations are trying to stop ?

I fully get that everyone likes a night out, and it’s been severely curtailed this year, but it hasn’t been curtailed just for the craic of it.
I wonder how these groups would get on if they were trying to list their close contacts a few days later if, God forbid, they were to get a call from the contact tracers ?

That's a bit harsh to say the least.... The €4 donation as explained in the media is the "Production" cost of the meal, excluding additional costs and also a thing called trying to make a profit and keep the restaurants door open...

The production cost of what? Nothing they make is fresh and they're not actually making anything because you're not getting a meal?

Production cost of the meal as in what it costs the business to purchase everything needed to make a "€9 meal"...

They're not a charity, they're a business and 30% of food/drink businesses will go to the wall with 100's of job losses when this alleged January lockdown comes in after the holidays..

Attack and attack restaurants but when you walk down the streets of wherever it is you live and all the doors are boarded up just remember your angry attacks on them....

There is a certain smell or hue of Buzz kill off this particular post.

The only thing I have learnt about this country during the Covid Crisis is how prevalent the anti- alcohol lobby is. I really genuinely never noticed it before.

But they got given an inch and they took the mile.

Everything they use is bulk bought and cooked from frozen/ has a long shelf life........ I like Oscar's but there is no way their production cost is €4.

I understand they're a business, and currently their business has to operate under a different set of guidelines, so bringing attention to themselves for flouting these guidelines is at best a publicity stunt at worst stupidity........

I don't know where you got angry attacks from, I've been one of the most vocal on here about all pubs being treated equally, but they're not, and maybe the ones that are allowed open shouldn't be making it more difficult for the ones that can't.

I find it more than concerning that there is a core group on here that is desperate to find and excuse any possible means to circumvent the rules that have been put in place to try and protect as many people as possible in the run up to Christmas.

Those rules are in place to try to allow as many people as possible to have as normal a Christmas as is possible in the circumstances that are forced upon us by Covid, and to try and keep the health services from being overloaded.

Perhaps I should point out that as a result of the numbers of people that are suffering from Covid in Germany, Chancellor Merkel has just announced a TOTAL lock down over the entire Christmas period, December 16 to January 10, the equivalent of Level 5 plus, with everything except essential retail closed for nearly a month, and that includes the schools, no alcohol, not even mulled wine, and no firework displays. Bavaria has also introduced a state wide curfew.

I wonder how the people here that are desperate for their wet pubs etc and are more than willing to play the "cute hoor" card would feel if NPHET were to come back with a recommendatation for a total lock down here in Ireland over Christmas? That is a very possible scenario if the numbers that are breaking the rules now continues.

The fact remains the pubs got blamed for spreading Covid, so did a race meeting in March. People love to be pointing fingers elsewhere, it soothes their conceit.

The schools got the cases rising, the pubs got the blame. It is simple maths. Sniff all the bullshight you like.

This is the worst thing about it, I want nothing more than to be able to wander into my local, grab a pint and relax by the fire with a paper.....

Unfortunately at the moment I can't do that, so I have to go out in the knowledge that I will have to eat and I may be asked to leave after 1.45 if they're booked up enough to make it feasible.

If the anti-alcohol lobby is so prevalent how come off licences are still open, supermarkets are selling beer at a loss and pubs and restaurants are able to sell alcohol?

Nine months in and I'm flabbergasted at all of the useful idiots who are still falling for the vintners' cons: The prevention of wasting food, auld lads who need a social outlet, the preservation of pub culture.

The people who own the pubs not only want to pour poison down your gullet but they also want you to risk catching a very dangerous respiratory disease while you're at it, and you're sitting there squawking for it like hungry chicks around a mother-bird. Wake up, lads.
