One of the main differences between the 16/17 and 20 version is the loss of Donie Buckley. The loss of him with regards to the technical and mechanics of tackles cannot be underestimated.

Also two of our main dirty ball winners in Jason and Colm are not there. If Boyler has 20mins in him then he'll be on the bench for the Dubs.

I think we are missing what Seamie and Tom did for us in the past. But I don't think they can do that for us anymore? Maybe that's harsh but i haven't seen Seamie in a while and Tom hasn't got back to what he was yet anyway.

The fact that Tom got game time suggested to me that he is in the line up for coming on against Dublin. Hopefully the game is not over when he is introduced like last year.

Yeah absolutely, that was pretty much what I had intended, but I worded it badly. They don't appear to be at that level they were at in 16 and 17 and given their age profile alone (ignoring some minor and also career threatening injuries) would go against them being able to offer the same again.

Both big losses, that last 20 minutes against Tipp would have been a perfect time to introduce Colm Boyle. He has a knack for reading danger and I can only assume hes no where near fitness.

I don't know what the story is with Colm Boyle. I think he got injured earlier in the year but had heard he'd recovered. But maybe just not doing it in training.

Interested to hear the injury updates, if we get any at all.

Was hoping for gough. He misses nothing . Not even the dark arts that both teams will inevitably get up to .

That fact that he was a SF ref really kind of put payed to that

He also reffed last year's final. Was never going to get it two years in a row.

He's the best in the business IMO but I did think he was a tad pernickety on Sunday.

Agree, I think Gough is the best in the business.

Whats our record like under Goldrick?

TBH off hand I can't recall any of our big games he taken charge of?

Surely, please god, there is a plan for kickout's for the final. Something different or just a plan b if a blitz comes like the start of the second half in last years semi final.
They have to have looked at that game and have a plan to counteract that.

I have a good idea. Something that no-one would ever think off. So clever that you could wrap it up and label it Einstein.

Why not drop our main goalie, and start our sub goalie for the final. What could go wrong.

On a serious note though, you're absolutely right. They will have to come up with something outside-the-box clever. Can't go toe to toe with Dublin and give up the goal chances.

I wouldn't have said he was pernickety to be fair. All his calls were correct as far as I could see. There's rarely any controversy when he's involved, aside from the Kerry Dublin game where he clearly couldn't see the foul by Kevin McManamon on Peter Crowley in the 2016 semi final.

As for Coldrick, I recall he reffed the 2014 Drawn Semi Final vs Kerry, and the 2016 Semi Final vs Tipp. Other than that I can't recall.

That's right Leeroy's infamous kickout in the drawn game!

Cormac Reilly was on the sideline that day, nearest that incident as I recall.

Would jordan flynn be in the mix for the final at all? Hes a powerful runner and could cause dublin issues if he goes out and plays his own game

He'll most certainly be in the mix to be introduced. He's got the physicality and aerial ability.Big call to start him. He's relatively inexperienced/untested and has had occasional on field discipline issues.

Can Matthew Ruane and Conor Loftus win sufficient primary possession against Fenton and Howard?Great to have their mobility in the middle but if you do not have the ball..

I like Jordan Flynn and he has a bit of mongrel in there that not too many others of our squad have. That might be a danger starting him against the Dubs as I'm sure that they'd wind him up before too long. He got a few needless cards in the league and I don't think we have a hope if we have a man down for 10 minutes (or longer).

If I recall the cards he got in the league were harsh, and in my view applied on reputation rather than what the transgression had merited.

I don't think you could trust him to keep his discipline for a whole game. Also his 'powerful' running really isn't that impactful unless he is introduced as a sub. He really is a diesel engine rather than a sprinter.

Powerful running wouldn't have the same impact against Dublin either compared to lesser sides. We'll need a bit more finesse.

Needed in these tough times. Not a great time of year to be asking, but if people were to consider what they would spend on a ticket or tickets as well as additional spending it may be worth making some donation.

Anyone else listen to the Bernard Brogan podcast this week where Jack McCaffrey told us why he quit the Dublin panel?

More or less said that he gained no enjoyment from it and that te fun was gone out of it.

I read an article in the independent today and was shocked by it
I thought he had just taken the opportunity to take a year off from it
Reading the article I don’t think he will be back. A real eye opener for many regarding the sacrifices they all make for our enjoyment !

It may be a day for horses for courses with Aidan O`Shea having to revert to midfield which would be a shame as he could create havoc in that Dublin back-line.
Cluxton will hit whatever he aims at and Dublin will push up to make Clarke go long, so Mayo cannot leave Fenton and Howard unchallenged height-wise around midfield.

Pretty sure it was the same problem for him when he left the panel the last time too. I thought he had left it this time because of covid!

Officially the story was that it was a year away with college/work but really think that perhaps he needed a break from the intensity. He hints that he struggles to compartmentalise things and talks about trying to get out of his head to try and rationalise things. I suspect we'll never see him at IC level again.

Thanks for the link. Every little helps and we need to support the team in any way we can.
