Couldn't find a thread here and the Nintendo fans don't wanna share so I've started a thread here.

Anyone gonna beta test play this day 1?
It's being released by Bugisoft but tbf it is the Quebec who are generally great.

Reviews are generally positive, but it's too big a game for me to get into it now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,279 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

I have yet to continue Valhalla, and with it coming out so soon to Cyberpunk coupled with the rep of Ubisoft, I can't see it selling very well. But I do like the look of it. I will definitely play it at some stage. Bonus from work is hopefully coming through soon, so might actually splash out on it. Will wait for a few more reviews and see if it sounds like my kind of game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,634 ✭✭✭JimBurnley

Definitely interested in this but gonna wait for price reduction next year. Few big games to get stuck into already, plus recent ubi track record suggests to wait until a few patches out and bugs etc fixed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,496 ✭✭✭recyclops

    SkillUp really liked it:

I'm on the fence. Ubisoft has really upset me this year.

this video looks like ass creed odyssey dressed up as a poor BOTW for halloween

Super bunnyhop was very positive about it. Saying it's not very original at all but if it ain't broke why fix it.

The name has to be the dumbest ever.
It's like "LIDL, Cornflakes 1/2 Price".

And it has none of the magic of BOTW.
Also, it's all blah, joke, blah.
Where as in BOTW link is SILENT !
BOTW is Toy Story 2, this game is Cars 2.

    :):)

Having never played BOTW, I should definitely enjoy this so.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,279 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

Ah it was staring at me on the store page, so I went and bought it. Downloading now, 21.2GB and downloading in under 25 minutes. Stuck in a digital DnD session right now though, so will be a while before I play it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,136 ✭✭✭Cordell

Yeah, I did a long session yesterday and I really enjoy it, it's a fresh take on the generic Ubi openworld and it's much better so far.
I had one issue, I paused it during a cutscene and the dialogue was gone after resuming, but no crash or any other technical issue. On the progression though, it did let me struggle for a while until it told me that I don't have what I need in one instance, and said nothing on another.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,279 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

I can only mirror above, have only a few hours done but im enjoying the chats between Zeus and Prometheus and the self awareness. I feel like it's caught between trying to be aimed more towards kids or adults, and is stuck in a weird inbetween, leaning more towards the kids side, but going full tilt either direction would work.

Combat seems a bit simplistic, so hopefully that opens up a bit with some powers. And so far Kassandra Fenyx is likeable. Voice work is good for Femyx, not sure what it would be like with the male voice work though. The preview made it sound as bad as Alexios.

    Looking forward to playing more.

Enjoying this, have the Aprodite completed, there is plenty to do and I like the vaults.

Achiles can go fcuk himself tho.

    Enjoyable chilled out game.
Genshin Impact is still the better game mainly thanks to its much better combat and team setup , pity its s gacha game though not that that bothers me that much as i havent spent any real money on it but the very fact its a gacha game turns many off.
Of course Genshin is a lot more grindy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,279 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

Yeah, have to say I'm enjoying this. It keeps bringing me back so that's a good sign, haven't been able to get into a game in a while.

I've more or less cleared Aphrodites area, just cleared the fog in Ares area. I've most of the skills unlocked and the combat is a bit simple, but still enjoying it. The 2 lads are actually great, commenting on nearly everything and usually funny enough. Good nod towards the woke movement.

I'm a bit worried it'll overstay its welcome though, I feel like I have nearly everything unlocked and still 3 areas before the boss area to unlock/clear. Unless there's some hidden skills to come.

Due to a simple error wherin I paid my credit card instead of my gas bill I decided to buy this, having already purchased Cyber Punk and almost bought COD Blops but managed to stop myself before things got out of hand.
Having never played BOTW or even owned a Nintendo I can safely say without fear of contradiction this is better than anything Nintendo or Namco have ever made.
Quite happy with my purchase although my house is very cold.

Having put a good bit more time into this, I can definitely say I'm loving it. Yeah, the combat is a bit simple, and I'm already starting to feel over powered, but I am doing most of the side stuff as I come across it.

One thing not mentioned yet is it can be quite funny, and I find myself laughing a good bit. And every "boss" encounter is different, the fight with Herakles was brilliant. Simplistic, but really well done. Each dungeon/vault is a different puzzle too, so kudos has to be given for that.

Definitely worth the purchase for me.

^ Wow thats surprising from you as I know you put as much into Valhalla as I did, might actually pick this up for over Christmas so. What little I saw it looked looked too much like the AC games but going by what you say about it, it actually sounds pretty good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,136 ✭✭✭Cordell

Well it's very similar but also quite different:)

this is an enjoyable romp for sure

it's a little bit formulaic but fun and even has the odd decent bit of humour

couple of small niggles in the puzzle rooms

would prefer it for sure to the usual Ubisoft stuff like AC or Far Cry games

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,279 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

Getting near to the end and I'm falling for this game. What it does isn't new, but it does it really well. The characters are well written and acted, and nearly every side quest or activity is unique in a way, and there's a story for most of them. Also pretty sure I just heard a blatant vagina joke from Aphrodite, when speaking about Hephestos:
he was so fixated on that (Pandoras) box that he ignored the box right in front of him
    !

Progression is steady and natural, but again I'm doing most side quests and activities before moving on. Have met a good few gold bar enemies, but with more of the gods blessings, you start to get uninterrupted combos and once they start hitting the 100 mark they become very OP. With good parrying, again enhanced by blessings, and good dodging with the same enhancements, it gets busy and powerful quite quick. Only using the buff potions on enemies whose patterns I've got and don't want to waste time repeating. I find the combat good like that, in that it can be easy or hard depending on what you want.

I know the catooney look will put some people off, but on the PS5 it's a beautiful looking game. You can tell real effort has been put into it, and aside from one issue where switches didn't spawn, resolved with reloading, it has been more or less flawless in performance. I'd imagine loading could be akin to Odyssey on the PS4, as its taking sometimes 10 seconds (i know, such a long time...) to load, so would be longer on the 4.

The game is fun, and that is apparently what I've been looking for in a game lately.

Okay ive put a little more time into this on PC and its one of them games that just has some magical gameplay that makes it a joy to play.
The only other game this year to do this for me is HADES and not because of greek mythology thats purely coincidence but they have really done something fantastic with this.
Its grabbed my attention so much more than Valhalla has then again im only 3 hours into that but this is just so much more enjoyable.

Genshin Impact also gives me almost identical gameplay vibes but alas its a gacha game, unlike Genshin with Fenyx rising everything in the game is yours.

Thanks for mentioning UPlay+, had never heard of it before but it seems like it's Ubisoft's version of EA Access or GamePass etc? Monthly sub to access their games and cancel anytime?

Was thinking of getting Immortals from cdkeys but this might be a better option.

How does the game play using kb+mouse does anyone know?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,136 ✭✭✭Cordell

It plays perfectly with kb+mouse just like any other AC title.

Good point, it won't be coming to game pass anytime soon as they have their own service.

This. Immortals doesn't do anything new, but what it does it makes it fun to do. Some people will think it's too easy, but sometimes you just need an enjoyable game, and this is it.

I'm near the end now, and I'm still mad to keep playing it. I can see myself purchasing the season pass at some stage. I also believe they now have a new series to continually pump games from, and that won't necessarily be a bad thing for a few years at least.

    Definite recommend from me.

It has a NG+ i believe? Also heard rumours of new zone coming in DLC, this could very well be their new baby, its doing better than most games this year in terms of reviews.

I wonder will saves be saved? should be as its our uplay account.

Dlc is now developed along with the main game on AAA titles so no surprise that details are being released

As the main game is lengthy and fun wouldn't have a big problem with that

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 10,472 Mod ✭✭✭✭Andrew76

    That DLC looks decent enough.

Based on reviews I've watched and the comments on here, I went ahead and signed up to Ubisoft+ for a month to play this. Looking forward to getting stuck in over the wkend. One question, is there a
    snow
area in the main game itself? Looks like there is in the DLC anyway.

Right this is definitely a contender for my GOTY, i tried going back to valhalla since i got uplay+ for both and its so boring compared to this.
HADES and MSFS2020 were also supremely enjoyable for me but i think Immortals just takes it, its amazing more are not picking up on the game.

    Summed up well here

It's probably because it's been seen as the poor relation of BOTW and not getting the same publicity as AC Valhalla. Plus maybe open world game fatigue. I'd love to play it but I think I'd be comparing it to BOTW and I just don't have the time for it at the moment. Will get it in a sale.

I've played BOTW and IFR is better in some ways actually imo - e.g. the weapons and upgrade system whilst pretty simple is good.

the puzzle vaults may even be better in some respects.

As whole BOTW is the better game yes I suppose.

While playing it you enjoy it I would say - won't be thinking about BOTW!

The DLC looks mad. One with the main character, one with a new character, and the third with another new character and an isometric playstyle. Don't know what to make of it.

And yes, there is, but not until the last area you travel to. I'm only there myself but I'd say you can go back after end game.

@DCully, yeah, I'll have to go back and see what else I've played this year, but this is a very strong contender. It's a shame a lot of people won't play it because of Ubis history of AC clones and Cyberpunk. But this is definitely one of the most enjoyable games of recent memory. Just fun to play.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,000 ✭✭✭Mr Crispy

It doesn't look too demanding a game but, just as a matter of interest, what system are you guys playing this on? You've collectedly talked me into picking it up for my time off after Christmas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,136 ✭✭✭Cordell

I'd say you can go back after end game.
Not really, it doesn't continue after the end, but you will be told when you're getting to that point and you will be able to load it afterwards. There is no endgame play, you won't be dropped back into the world like nothing happened.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,279 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

Just found that out! Have to say that was thoroughly enjoyable. As mentioned above, not a terribly difficult game, but each activity is slightly different in some way, so it doesn't get stale. Yet anyway, had a look at the trophies and I'm hoping everything doesn't have to be collected to platinum, as I'm fairly close so might as well go for it. You can master equipment and skills once maxed, so that possibly points towards more collectibles than needed to max.

Good chance I'll get the season pass when it's on sale. And as mentioned, I think there's a franchise here. Maybe that's the intent of the dlc, the second one is Chinese based, and the third isometric, so they're possibly testing the waters for what kind of sequel or spin off.

I reckon it'll be hard going to get into Valhalla after this. Its the same Ubi formula, but IFR is better.

I gave this a good couple of hours yesterday and I am sold. It's not the prettiest or most original game, even greek mythology has been done to death in every medium, but it is great fun with bitesized puzzles both in the game world and mini dungeons.

The core mechanics are not as refined as zeldas but it definitely has that "I will now go to the mission mark... Wait what is that thing over there" gameplay loop nailed.

I wasn't sure if I liked the humour but it's growing on me. It's a great fun feel-good Christmas time treat. The exact sort of game I love playing this time of the year.

I7 7700 and 2070S, at 1440p keeps a steady 60fps most of the time, with odd dips into 50s. It's less demanding than AC:O but definitely not light.

Really loving this. So hard to drag myself away from just going for one more chest, or another of the challenges. The game plays like a dream, the puzzles are mostly fantastic, and the map is absolutely stunning. Plus I have a pink unicorn so f*ck you.

Managed to take down the legendary boar despite being underlevelled. Mostly cheesed it around a table. Got some parrot thing as a reward. It flashed up for a sec but can't see it in inventory anywhere. I'm guessing I haven't unlocked the ability to equip it.

Even with the minimap full of collectibles etc, you'd completely forget this is a Ubisoft game if not for Hermes yelling at you to buy microtransactions when you go back to the main hub.

    .

It's a mod for the bird, it's the correct 'phoenix' instead of the silly mispelling they do here and in Gears for main characters.
Anyway do the first main mission to Aphrodite, you'll then see a flash in the distance and get a new side mission. Do the first 2 stages - the first to see what it is and the second to activate it (the second will send you into a high level area but you don't need to engage anything, just run in and grab what you need) . The phoenix adds a very useful god-power to your arsenal - to the point where some vaults cannot be completed without it.

This game took me a while to warm to, the prologue is far too long leaving the potential for a few hours play if you like to explore without being able to level up at all. After I'd say 2-3 hours I started to like it a lot more but now after 15 I'm getting a bit bored. That said after all that time I am only at the second true (post prologue) area so I spent a lot of time doing pretty much everything in the earlier spots which may have led to the fatigue. So without disliking any part I just don't feel that urge to rush back in, I've a feeling it's something I'll play in spurts over the next month or 2.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,885 ✭✭✭Optimalprimerib

I realised today why I am enjoying this much more than other open world's such as assassins creed, red dead or gta.

In immortals, you explore, discover and find tasks. Those tasks are contained in the area you are in, unlike the missions in the others where you travel to a marker to talk to someone. The mission starts and you are made travel another considerable distance to reach the fun bit.

The fact that everything here is immediate when you hit the point of interest, makes it much more compulsive to continue, find another point and gain the satisfaction instead of a 10 minute mission with 5 minutes of filler travel.

No, and just beat another legendary boss (the rooster) and got a similar reward, so I guess I'll be able to use or equip those with a few more story missions.
