The only way anyone is going to do 12 pubs is by takeaway drinks only cause who in their right mind would buy 12 dinners.

That rte article is a clickbait panic article. I really feel for the publicans who have made the effort to retro their pubs to safely house people. Especially ones who have done extra outdoor set ups.

This paragraph should have been at the top of the article tbf instead of halfway down.

"The report noted, however, that the reopening of pubs on 21 September - everywhere except the capital - also coincided with the opening of universities and specific sporting events"

Can I have some of what you`re smoking? No chance whatsoever of any of this panning out.

I'm an immunology grad. My last year thesis was on the epidemiology of airborne disease. I'd put money on it.

I'm pretty sure NYPET know these facts too. Either they know something we don't or they're just hedging their bets in case they can't be seem to get it wrong by supporting the easing of restrictions.

Remember we're not really going to level 3 tomorrow, it's closer to level 4 and on Friday when the restaurants/gastro pubs open it's still above 3. We won't get to the 3 until two weeks before Xmas when the schools will be out. That alone will offset any increase of infections of people meeting up over Xmas.

Regardless, we're in the fourth quarter of the second wave. We're not going to go straight into a third wave before it's finished. To my knowledge there is no precedence for this happening at any other time in recent history.

But let's come back to it on January and I'll be happy for you to take the piss out of me if I'm wrong on this.

Because pubs and restaurants cannot open and sell drink until Friday i wasn't sure if hotel bars would open on Tuesday to residants. And none of the receptionists could clarify it either. I'll have a walk round town tomorrow and drop in to a few and confirm it.

Rang Lough Eske Hotel this morning and they confirmed the bar will be open for residents, no requirement to have food. Wasn't sure if entertainment is allowed. Forgot to ask what time the bar would close as well...

I’d be slightly more convinced you weren’t spoofing had you got NPHET right tbh.

What term would you rather everybody used instead?

    PUBS

The term gastropubs is fine but pubs which dont serve fgood are called PUBS and not "wet pubs"

So..........everyone who disagrees with you is either lying, anti-pub, pro-Holohan or Tony Holohan himself!

    Very convenient I must say!

folks, have they given the new guidelines yet? like, do we have to buy food, is the time limit gone etc.

folks are taking kids for a sleepover on Saturday so me and the wife can go out.. thank ****.

but ened to know do we book two places and eat 9e food in each, or can we actually got to a nice restaurant and not have to worry about going to pub after and buying more food for the bin.

Same as before, 9 euro meal, table service, 2m or 2h (1.45)

2 metre distance or 2 hour time limit according to Leo varadkar (it's 1.45 plus 15 for cleaning but he needs the soundbite). Failte ireland releasing their guidelines during the week but nothing major is expected to change.

    Over the smell of shìte?

My local is actually very clean. Smells delightful!

I actually just read that they're doing a deal where you get a free pint with your substantial €9 meal later this week when they open up.

Free pints? What's not to love??

Talk about operating on old data. 2m has been shown to be of little help when indoors with an airborne virus. No confirmed formite transmission cases out there either as far as I am aware, which renders the cleaning aspect pointless too.

Good to see someone is excited about the possibility that pub/restaurant businesses are allowed to open for 2 weeks, they should be grateful of the privilege to serve you...

What is the closing time for the places opening?

Exactly! It would be a massive shame if they were not allowed to open. Let's be glad that they are!

Well that's a shame! Is that the same local you went to when they opened, got pissed off about having to wear a mask while going to the jacks and decided to protest and not go again? Shame they didn't have your support!

I'll make sure to give my full support to the pubs in the local area over the festive period. It's gonna be class!

My Main Street had 11 pubs, three boarded up by Easter - we now have one very expensive “dining experience” and two pubs and one small hotel that opened with heated smoking areas/beer gardens.

The posh gaff will open Friday, the hotel will but no one knows for who (residents only ?) and the other two that landlords put a lot of money into making a comfortable and safe outside area likely won’t.

    Very sad.

Likewise, bumped into my local barman yesterday. He's utterly crestfallen, pumped thousands of quid into partitions and other safety features. All for nothing, kicked to the kerb by the Government. Now the pub is in danger of going under, rates and bills don't disappear behind closed doors. And then you have ignoramuses faking excitement about delicious creamy pints in "gastro" environments, just to thumb it at traditional publicans and their patrons. Class Crass.

Local pub with food just put out they won't be re-opening (for now), given the likely closure after Christmas.

if the business is likely to go under anyway, why the **** would they not just open regardless.. whats he got to lose?

    Sad news!

This is why it's important to support other local pubs this Christmas with your business!

Covid has caused these businesses to struggle. Get out and grab some pints and some €9 meals when you can!

One local pub near who has a full kitchen and does bar food have said the same . With the prospect of having to close again after Christmas.
It must be costing him a bit having to open and close and I know he got stung twice with food ordered in and couldn’t shift it.

This place would be the same - too much of a food place for me pre-covid.

I guess they also have to consider taking staff off PUP, and getting them back on again, in the run up to Christmas or straight after may not be fair. If it even gets to Christmas.

One of our customers owns a group of pubs, I was talking to the management today fishing for an order but they are still deciding on how many of the pubs they are going to open as they have to close again in a few weeks. The opening costs are huge for a couple of their larger premises.
