Complains about Laois/Offaly TD's tweet on the Kilmicheal ambush and plans to write to our Ceann Comhairle.

Is she right or should she just fcuk right off?

I mean it couldn't be any worse than marching through the streets of NI every year, reminding people of some stupid battle in the 1600s.

In this case she is right. Comparing events in the 1600s is very different than in i the 70s....

    She has a point ,

If the British boasted about killing IRA terrorists then there would be uproar by Mary Lou and co ,

Ah sure if she doesn't agree with something that's that, fecking battleaxe, nothing wrong with commemorating successful attacks or campaigns or however you wanna call them on the occupying British, who never should have been here anyway

Hate to say it, but she is absolutely right.

Sinn Fein are a pox and an embarrassment. They hadn't got the balls to run enough candidates to win the election outright, proving they don't want to be in government. Then they have idiots like this fella, McElduff posing with a kingsmill loaf on his head and that other thick in the South East singing about the 'RA' when he got elected.

Sinn Fein have been the biggest opposition party for some time now and have let this government away with murder because they're all fart and no ****e. No balls to step up and no workable policies, only guff and bluster trying to keep us in the 70s

Whenever the topic of the IRA is brought up by Leo and Co the SF supporters accuse them of living in the past etc...... it seems however a large part of SF have not moved on themselves.

Just for accuracy the tweet contained reference to both kilmichael and narrow water. The latter very much in living memory for many.

Its got absolutely nothing to do with her. The british army deserved all they got here.

The poor parachute regiment. Were just trying to spread peace and love on the island when they were attacked

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,720 ✭✭✭Large bottle small glass

The Warrenpoint attack did show the IRA were a formidable foe for the British Army.

They parked a hay trailer containing a bomb on Down side of estuary and blew it up from Co Louth when the army convoy passed. They had set up attack near a ruin, knowing the British had a practice of setting up their HQ in the nearest building.

They had booby trapped the ruin and it was here than they did most damage.

did he mention the kids/civilians that were targeted/murdered on that wonderful and proud weekend for Ireland and the Republican meeting... or did he just pretend to forget that happened?

EDIT/PS: A Foster can feck off. If she wants to judge others she should ensure her party stop hanging out with terrorists

Of course she is right, and I have no real gra for her.

This is 2020...we are supposed to be tolerant, cooperative, friendly, peace-building and living and trying to live happily as a people

This kind of carry on from an elected rep is disgraceful..

The poor parachute regiment. Were just trying to spread peace and love on the island when they were attacked

    You are missing the point...

We need to move on and build peace

I was never a critic of the IRA during the times they operated....

I had a lot of understanding and sympathy for the plight of Irish people up north

But for god's sake, can't we adapt/change/mature and move on to try and make things happier and more tolerant and more caring?

There is absolutely no place in a caring and cooperative and civilized society for this.

We have had it.....the IRA did what they needed to do "at the time."

I don't care what side you are on

We are all people, all humans with families.....show some bloody decency and park the desire to stir up old and sad and desperate wounds...

Walshb you're missing the point, the fact Stanley mentioned Kilmiachel and Narrow water in the same tweet was a subtle hint.

I know Flanagan and FG got their holes handed to them when they tried to get a state commemoration for the Black and Tans passed, but what other country in the world tries to honour their oppressors?

Kilmiachel good - Narrow water bad.

Can you address the tweet, and leave out bringing in other parties...

Can you condemn this tweet as wrong, insensitive and something no elected rep could justify/stand over?

You are for ever obfuscating and moving goal posts...

Former UDR man and opponent of the Good Friday Agreement Jeffrey Donaldson now describing the Kilmichael Ambush commemorations as a celebration of 'murder'.

Except it's not in the past. Current members of SF stood and applauded a man known to have murdered a Guard.

Let that sink in for a moment. Current SF members, today, knowing this man MURDERED a Guard, decide to stand and applaud this man.

It's actually incredible when you give it some thought. We've become de-sensitised to them at this stage, which is very dangerous. Hope the 25% backing SF in the polls truly know who they are supporting.

Absolutely disgusting thing for an elected representative to say.

Deleting the statement proves it was wrong.
    What was he thinking?

He simply could not hold his tongue...

Should be asked to resign...simple as......

A guy like that is dangerous....now, are SF going to act and remove? Hardly....

I say that as someone who would be of a nationalist view

What is it with some nationalists and their continued hate/contempt....

Do they think it makes them more Irish-Nationalist to be Brit hating?

he was right about narrow water - it changed a lot of how the british army done things. Uncomfortable truths for the DUP

    Seriously,

are you being deliberately obtuse here?

If that was a Unionist reminding us of the "successful" SAS mission in Gibraltar for example, would that be ok as well?

I genuinely don't get the outrage with SF.

It's not the their "mask is slipping" or that "they are showing their true colors" or whatever pretend shock that people want to present etc.

It is an unambiguous fact that the IRA has ended the life of multiple UK and Irish soldiers and police/Gardai on both sides of the border and multiple innocent civilians.

In the eyes of SF these deaths have all been of value. It was legitimate to murder an innocent child if it furthers the cause of their concept of a united Ireland. It was legitimate to intimidate, kneecap, and murder their own community to enforce "civil" discipline against people trying to get in on the IRAs criminal monopoly in the catholic community.

It was legitimate to smuggle, launder fuel, kidnap people, rob banks, post offices and kill anyone who got in their way, in order to finance their "political" activities.
It was legitimate to rob £26 million for a pension fund when they realised they would have to stop robbing banks and murdering/kidnapping people.

SF and the IRA have always looked after and celebrate their own and continue to do so.

So if SF is actively celebrating the above, what right do we have to display faux shock?

If people are genuinely shocked that members of SF feel that killing (British soldiers, RUC, Irish Soldiers, Gardaí, school bus drivers, delivery men, cleaners, children, etc) were, best case, a cause for celebration and worst-case justified but regrettable, they those people need to re-educate themselves.

SF has always been clear and unambiguous in their version of what is and was right and wrong. They have not changed their position. They should be commended for their honesty and transparency.

The Parachute Regiment decorated and with not one member ever sanctioned for what they did.

Let that sink in, as the high moral grounders might say.

No public mention of all the events on this island or come up with a way to accept what happened.

That way, Charlie might get to celebrate what the Black and Tans did too.

The ritual predictable hypocrisy around these issues is hilarious.

I understand but did the posters going on about this make similar complaints for anti Irish sentiments or DUP tweets? Otherwise I'll have to say it's faux outrage.
