I think if the referee goes to the monitor, that's a sure sign that he has been told that the VAR has a different opinion and to change the original on field decision.

It's still the VAR making the decision but it looks like it's the on field referee as he is 'using the monitor'.

You might well be right there, but that’s so pointless. The lad in the booth needs to be able to make these calls when there has been a genuine error.

If there’s no genuine error, no need for the on-field ref to go re-referee the game. I feel like if we move into that realm on a regular basis, then the ‘all we ever talk about is VAR these days’ narrative will become much more accurate.

Neither of those Villa or West Brom penalties were clear errors. They were a bit soft for sure, but you can’t put out these videos about how high the bar is gonna be, follow through on that nearly every week, and then randomly drop the bar way down today.

Maybe i'm going mad, but that still looks like he's won ball. He's clearly got a touch on it.

Illusion, ball hit ground, ball changed motion as if touched,,,, it was touched, by the ground.

Experience, and zero pressure where he now plays, great goal

There was talk in the summer that the players were losing faith in Pep as he is just too intense and demanding. They look seriously out of ideas. Looked very ordinary against Liverpool, again today and hammered by Leicester.
It's tight at the top, no one running away with it this season, exciting.

Even if you could 100% confirm that to be the case, i stand by the ref's decision because the West Brom player is getting nowhere near the ball anyway as it's going back through his legs.

So a foul doesn't matter if it's 'off the ball'? That's a new low even for this place lol.

100% it's ruining it. They haven't a clue what's right or wrong so how are we supposed to know?

Bamford was not offside in a million years. I celebrate goals but always erring on the side of caution. Mane in the Everon game wasn't offside but I was glad to see that one slide :pac:

Jokes aside, we all want to see games based on teams being set up to win in the best possible manner and be entertained. Don't want to see errors becoming the norm and key events in games.

That’s always been the norm. Is it annoying people more now that the decisions are more marginal/open for interpretation than the glaringly obvious wrong decisions that were commonplace before?

Early kick off might afford Fulham a chance to get a bit of breathing room at the bottom, plenty of Evertons bigger players making long international trips home.

Clubs are polar opposites, Fulham the small club with a big heart, family friendly and likeable. Everton are like a crass new money family, no idea how to spend it properly, gloat about very short term success(back to 80's best after a few wins lol) but ultimately they consistently expose themselves for what they are.

Why are you making up quotes and do you even know what the term “off the ball” means?

Fernandez has got a touch on the ball, the ref has had a chance to see the footage and correctly overturned his decision.

I dont see the fuss about Federico Fernandez, I thought the "controversy" was about Bruno Fernandes?

The argument is about a wafer-thin decision, so it's surely a sign that VAR is generally working great?

Without it we'd be debating big-ticket wrong decisions about how United got robbed by Johnstone being way off his line for the penalty, and Gabriel Jesus got away with a clear handball for the equaliser in City's 4-1 win at Spurs.

There's seems no general agreement in the football world on the WBA penalty, and people suggest the fault is VAR. I don't get it.
Major clusterfcuk blatantly wrong decisions (Maradona hand, Thierry Henry, Toni Schumacher) are never going to happen again, why would people want to go backwards to that.

I cannot believe Parker is starting Lookman. He should have literally kicked him out of the club for his narcissistic, self-indulgent penalty.

    That was fast. DCL goal.

Is it my hangover or is this camera angle horrific?

    Great point actually...

I’m pretty sure that’s the point of var. Only problem is people expect every single decision to be correct now, even the ones that after 30 replays people still have different opinions on.

I made nothing up, I quoted nothing in my post. And yes, I do know what that particular term means thankyou for asking.

Var worked correctly in the United match yesterday. About the only thing that did.

It's a bit lower than normal. They have the camera in the new stand that's under construction, think its normally on the other side.

    Nicely taken equaliser.

1-1. Decent goal. Pickford in no man's land. Don't get why he didn't just rush out.

Good game for a neutral aye.

Lots of chances. Both teams liable to defensive errors
