20 daily average 'confirmations' of Covid in hospitals. Interesting use of language from Prof Nolan.

    Corrected himself from saying admissions

Good numbers considering the reports of outbreaks among staff in some of the hospitals around the country.

When I wrote this earlier in reply to Stephenmcd's post on swabs I jokingly wrote bet they'll find 100 cases to make things seem bad for their news conference. Deleted it before i posted because I didn't want to seem negative and cynical :pac:

Saying that positivity rate is not decreasing? Has it not been decreasing the last few days?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,538 ✭✭✭✭stephenjmcd

Sorry but they're saying positivity is rising, thats just not correct, its decreasing again.

    Some amount of waffle here

It’s fairly awful how they’re feeding the media

Which means they’ve held numbers back.

I thought the positivty rate is 2.7%?

It is like they are trying to steer discussions over the next several days about reopening plans.

I guess the Sunday papers will have all sorts of leaks so they see it as there best chance to dial up the fear rhetoric.

Really should be 300 or under today but they report 429 cases?

This may have been addressed already but does anyone know the difference between PCR testing and LAMP testing? Is one better/more accurate than the other?

i reckon the problem with showing the screens must be the sign language person. it's too complex for them to show them and the screens at the same time.

Go on Dr. Nolan, give us the reason why the R number has increased in the past few days. Answer: Outbreaks in hospitals.

Does anyone genuinely know where they’ve gotten the extra 100 cases from?

Since 3rd October I now have it that swabs are 54 ahead of cases. So the extra today could be a backlog from somewhere.

It's also taught me that some people are behaving like man babies, crying and needing protection (or a safe space at least) from medical experts.

You should stop being so angry. No one is out to get you.

If I was in Australia I wouldnt be so sure about that.
