I find it hilarious the constant call for the schools to be closed here, thankfully in the real world the decision makers and parents are far more sensible.

Didn't you post this exact same post yesterday?

Obviously not. Families sporadically meeting up clearly don't have the same impact as hundreds of thousands of schoolkids meeting every single day, shifting, sharing fags, coughing on each other etc.

    That should be basic enough.

Jesus I would of loved to have gone to a school like that when I was young, shifting and sharing fags in the school

    Yeah. Exactly.

    Saw this article to day.

"Consistent evidence of Covid-19 clusters in households - HIQA"
    https://www.rte.ie/news/coronavirus/2020/1118/1178898-covid-ireland/

Is the virus materializing out of thin air in households or something?

..........or might someone from the household be leaving every morning, spending hours with hundreds of people from other households, at close quarters, and then returning again in the evening to the bosom of the family.

and someone be leaving every morning spending hours with others from other households, (working and shopping) at close quarters and the in the evening to the bosom of the family

Were the same decision makers and parents being sensible when they closed the schools during lockdown 1.0?

Plus the government has direct control over whether schools open, whereas there will always be some degree of family meet-ups no matter what level we are in...

No positivity rate is the vital number. You could test 100 people and you'd have 7 cases, 1000 and have 70.

Tests are available to all that feel they may be a close contact etc, we are not going from testing 1000 a day to testing 10000 the next day.

I think people are quick to forget there were over 1,000 cases a day 4 weeks ago.

One of the defining features of this whole crisis is the incredible shortness of a lot of people's memories.

A whole lot less are working from home

    This.
Would hate to see schools closed tbh.
But the only things that are open now that may be contributing besides social gatherings are schools and people not WFH .
Maybe if the latter was supported a bit more, we might get past the post without schools being affected?

Do those 100000s meet in one place?
Also theres millions of people meeting everyday, spending even more time together than kids at school, that place is.... wait for it... workplace

Most if not all those shops are doing click and collect and have sutters half open with a tempoary counter for people to collect stuff. There is a clothes shop in the shopping centre near me with 4 people in the shop packing up stuff. To say that people are taking this lockdown as serious as the lockdown is having a laugh bruv

Its possible, not sure what departments you heard but my mother had an out patients appointment cancelled last week due to a number of staff off due to both positive tests and self isolation reasons.
Its possible it spread to other departments. Was in there myself yesterday though and there didn't seem any great urgency bar the usual guidelines and any of the staff i talked to seem calm enough about the whole covid situation.

Just heard about one dept but a big knock on effect thru nurses. Didnt want to mention the dept because I was told by a friend working in the hospital so effectively second hand info.

Mobility data showing that this is not the case with jobs .
Not all trips to schools .

I don't want the schools closed but it's not realistic getting to the numbers NPHET want with them open. Instead it's the blame game, it's just tedious and boring at this stage.

So for all those who are saying its the schools fault and we need them closed a few questions for you. Is it primary and secondary or just one? How long do we close them? How do we make sure we educate them? Do we keep them away from people and places? If we do keep them in seclusion should adults also be for the same amount of time?

    This and Limerick .
Thanks to HSE derogation policy .
    Everyone ...
Close contact with a confirmed case must restrict movements .
    Nurses...
Come in to work , we need you , and we'll check your temp once or twice a day.
What are you worried about , sure you have PPE ?

IF and it's a big IF people are asking for schools to close, it absolutly has to be the higher risk age groups and for those that are best equipped to learn online which would mean secondary schools.

I think non essential retail like bookies and places like pubs should stay closed for another month

To reach and sustain 100 cases a day it's probably necessary and that's assuming the decline continues (allowing for the clusters in hospitals and HCW)

So our goals should reflect the accepted concession that keeping schools open is a big factor in the R number atm.

My big gripe is the apparent total dismissal of rapid antigen testing.

Is that the policy where even if you a close contact of a confirmed case and your first test is negative, you don't have to isolate but instead are asked to come into work even though you may still be developing infection if that makes sense?

Todays numbers are very disappointing. NHPETs aim with this lockdown was to get the case numbers down to under a 100 and into double digits. I really can't see that happening now. The restrictions on the lockdown will start lifting soon enough especially on retail and more movement of people. Cases are going to go up and its going to bad news for Christmas and especially new year. There isn't a hope in hell people will keep their contacts low over Christmas and it will lead to an explosion if cases in the early new year.

NPHET are hoping we can limp along as we are at the moment... with cycle of slight easing followed by further restrictions until they get a vaccine... IMO they are not genuinely looking at any other options.

They are banking on a vaccine roll out in the next 3-4 months, if that looks unlikely... maybe they will consider other options.

Anyone that thinks they will come out with any fresh or revolutionary options apart from this is living in dream land. The best thing you can do is just accept this is it for the next 3 months at least.
