If Amazon provide a refund for a late item do you get to keep the item if it arrives without having to pay?

I know some people are keeping the items for free but is that the official policy?

I have an expensive, 320 euro item, which is late. I can get a refund tomorrow but it might be out for delivery tomorrow?

I know morally it's wrong to keep the expensive item for free but not if it's a guarantee by Amazon.

What is the policy by Amazon?

Is it, if your item is late you get it for free?

They don't say you can keep it if they don't deliver on time, so no, its not policy. With that value they will probably tell you to wait longer or return it if it arrives. Nothing is free - if they deduct the amount from An Post we'll all pay eventually.

My small package finally arrived today about 2 weeks overdue, I got the €35 refund a few days ago and am happily keeping the goods for free after the hassle of waiting so long

Isn't there a 14 day delivery period that gives you a refund?

Distance selling regulations mean you can return an online purchase if you change your mind within 14 days. You pay the return shipping, though.

Amazon will refund the shipping cost if you have paid extra for guaranteed delivery, not the price of the product.

As a former An Post employee up to this year, it's honestly the tip of the iceberg in here. The sorting centres are swamped lads, it's gonna be a grim December.

I got a refund on a drone which cost about €240 last week and it arrived a few days later. I decided to contact Amazon this evening to let them know that it subsequently arrived and they said to "keep, dispose or donate it".

Happy days! The rep took a bit of time before saying that so he was obviously checking my account for a history of things like this so I wouldn't make a habit of it.

As I said before I had a package due last Tuesday worth over €100. Amazon refunded me last Thursday morning. Then it arrived in Dublin last Thursday evening. Just updated this morning as out for delivery. Should I contact Amazon to charge again or will it be done automatically?
I have no issue in paying for it but don't wanna spend the money either if it is gonna be deducted if I don't say anything.

Edit: it also seems to me that anything delivered in Dublin parcel hub is being delivered on time but anything delivered to Dublin mail centre is being delayed

How late was the package? Did they email you?

No email or contact from Amazon. I just wanted to know if they'd charge at some point so bit the bullet and contacted them about it first.

I don't know exactly how late it was but I was given that prompt in the order tracking saying "it might still arrive but you can request a refund now".

Merrywell large parcel unit changed to an automated parcel unit last Friday.

This hugely increases capacity and combined with 7 day delivery and large increase in seasonal staff will see delays drop dramatically from this week

There was a work to rule in Cork until last week, but finally got settled. This caused additional Cork delays

An post are operating as normal, if they had your parcels, you'd have them in a day or two but delays are obviously happening overseas due to cancelled flights etc.

Don't think so. They are miles behind in limerick. Waiting on a package posted in dublin last Tuesday.

    all normal then

Your delivery is in DUNGARVAN, CO WATERFORD , never had a parcel go through Waterford before , is this a new thing for Co. Cork deliveries , worried that Amazon have screwed up the postcode .

I've heard issues with regards numbers, or just hours being worked by seasonal staff, but I'd be delighted to be wrong on that. I hope for nothing more than an extremely efficient Christmas. 2019 was actually not too bad all things considered, but Christmas + Covid is a different beast.

it took about 5 days to move from Dungarvan , they told me it was sent there by mistake , address and postcode was correct , trying to use DPD more as they seem to have speeded up there delivery time , two days from overclockers uk and one day from north in the last few days

Amazon item due tomorrow arrived today. Arrived in Dublin Hub yesterday and down the country so things might be getting back to normal with the new ecommerce place open.

Royal Mail parcel was sorted in Dublin Mail Centre on Sunday and then stopped updating.

I was chatting to An Post webchat this morning when it finally updated to say it was out for delivery (in Limerick) so it seemed to be delayed about 2 days but not bad for something that was sent from the UK last Friday. I must've gotten lucky but that might help someone to hear.

Though I do have three parcels from the US which USPS said arrived in Dublin on Saturday and have yet to show up on An Post tracking. I asked on webchat but his reply didn't really make much sense. It'll show up when it shows up more or less, at least I think that's what he was getting at. Paid a lot extra for upgraded shipping to fast track them through the USPS delays stateside only to be stalled in Dublin but fingers crossed I won't be waiting weeks for them.

    Did it say:
Your item departed a transfer airport in DUBLIN, IRELAND on November 8, 2020 at 8:37 am. The item is currently in transit to the destination.

I had this to but contacted An Post Portlaoise today and was told this only means it left USA on this date and is in transit to Dublin. Really hope it’s not lost!! I realise there is delays globally with post. But up until yesterday I at least though it meant my item was in Dublin somewhere! Anyone can advise how long your package took to eventually arrive after getting similar update
    Thanks

Yep, that's what mine says. I also paid for Priority Express International.

I know they say this means it left the US for Dublin but I mean, it has to physically be in the country by now.
There was a 10 hour gap between it departing a transfer airport in Newark to departing a transfer airport in Dublin, so the time of a flight meaning it landed in the country but nothing since.

This is usually the point where it's scanned in Dublin and then to customs. There seems to be a delay between landing and being acknowledged by An Post. Sounds like a big backlog if yours landed on the 8th :(

Yes that’s what I’m hoping as well, isn’t it incredibly frustrating when the USPS TRACKING won’t update and An Post tell you they have nothing! It’s like no mans land. What date did your tracking say in was in Dublin??
