Even the main COVID thread on here started to talk a bit of sense today.

You'll find the head in the sand, curtain twitching doomers migrate to a thread where it seems they can have their blissful ignorance on days this happens. They're still there, just appear elsewhere in the forum.

Tony 'the beatings will continue until morale improves' Holohan just after tweeting that he is 'concerned'. I hope he gets help for his anxiety.

The next 2 weeks are crucial. Such an empty repeated phrase.

Haha TH is a miserable so and so. Jesus Christ, he is literally treating the public like schoolkids, acting like people will push for the next 2 weeks and then get a little reward.

Reckon we've actually come close to the real crossroads here- people wrote off November as we were forced to do but the Government will have to come off the very comfy fence here for really the first time since March- it's a foregone conclusion now NPHET and associated Covid fanatics are clearly now gung-ho for extended lockdowns (shock horror there eh) to continue well into December and beyond. So, they'll have to make an actual decision here- write off Christmas as per Nphet dictats and face a public political backlash....or face down Nphet for really the first time ever. It'll be fascinating to watch them all squirm because they're running out of excuses to hide behind. My money is on Nphet as any smart money would be. This government is breathtakingly spineless.

I'm sure his massive salary, cushioned employment and endless advisory and board opportunities as a great comfort to him

They won't go against NPHET again

It’s as clear as day that we’re being softened up for another round of serious restrictions come 1st of December. Constant daily leaks hinting that the restrictions aren’t having enough of an affect. I genuinely think they’re about to lose the support of the ‘silent majority’ if they come out next week and recommend level 5 or even a reduced level 3 variant be kept for another 2 weeks.

They never did- we had a slight delay of a few weeks before they folded.

I say bring it on. Look it's time this nonsense was brought to a head. Far too many happy clappy seals cheerleading this crap daily. Personally don't give a hoot about Christmas- a lot of pro-lockdown lackies I know are big into it- they'll get enough of their precious lockdowns for sure if that's basically taken from them

I’d love if someone could produce a stat for the number of time ‘next X number of weeks is crucial’ have been used in the media.

Too many of us forced to take our ladle of soup, Tony Holohan and NPHET tucking into a gourmet banquet at our expense. Enough is enough.

So Dr. Tony is a dictator now? This is getting ridiculous.

The vast majority are doing their bit. The carrot was a reasonable Christmas if we behaved. We behaved. Enough of this guy calling all the shots.

Say whatever you want about him, and I know he wasn't saying it out of love for the public but varadker has been the only one to speak up.

Micheal Martin is doing his best invisible Man impersonation it seems, Stephen Donnelly is about as much use as a chocolate kettle and Pascal Donohue, the minister for finance, who should be scrutinizing the measures NPHET are calling for based on the cost, is hiding behind the couch. Pathetic.

Populism drives politics these days. The politicians can see which way the wind is blowing with regard to restrictions. The herd started moving a while back. As always it starts out very slowly, but it inevitably gathers an unstoppable momentum. The government will ease things in December despite the wailing from NPHET.

If we had a Taoiseach with a spine he'd be straight over to Holohan and co to put them in their place. Could you imagine Charlie Haughey or even Ahern tolerating this kind of deliberate impotence of elected government?

Remember, it has to be level 2 as level 3 is no leaving your county, no home gatherings for more than 1 other person and no wet pubs.

The fact I am seeing hopes to move to level 3 on December 1st indicates that even NPHET and the government don't seem to realise that we have a living with covid plan. I genuinely believe they do not know how to follow it as they have not followed it to date and cannot indicate when each level is necessary.

I honestly believe that those who post this are hoping that simply posting it will make it real. You will never again see the majority of the public adhere to a lockdown. That aspect of Covid is over. Look around you.

The majority are doing their bit. Bit silly to suggest otherwise.

No, it's silly to think that they are. Go outside and look around you. The only things that are not happening now are those that have been physically removed e.g. pubs and retail.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,950 ✭✭✭polesheep

Going outside is safest and legal.

When you are safely outside have a look around you. Look at people's behaviour. The groups walking to school together, sitting together having coffee, calling onto each other's homes, etc. If you can't see it it's only because you don't want to see it. It's like someone putting their fingers in their ears and saying, "I'm not listening".

You need to work on your logical reasoning.
The majority are abiding by restrictions the majority of the time

People have been turning on each other since day one. Or having a difference of opinion depending on what you'd call it

    How so?

Our case numbers are stable, having come down from a high only a few weeks ago.
Mask wearing, physical distancing, congregating in large groups, working from home, are all generally being observed by the majority that can do these things.
If the majority were not doing as they were advised we would be up **** creek.

No, level 3 is wet pubs open with additional restrictions up to and including outdoor service only.

That's if they stick to their 5 point plan that isn't 5 points.....

Obviously you are more comfortable believing this to be true. I'll leave you with it.

It's not a matter of believing it to be true.....it is true. All the evidence suggested this. We are a country of over five million people. A few social media videos of mass restriction breaking is not an indicator of the behaviour of the majority.

There are, and have been, plenty not following all of the regulations since day one and others being selective about what they follow. However it's very very obvious from the case numbers that the vast majority of the population are following the majority of the regulations the majority of the time.
The alternative narrative you are painting does not bear scrutiny.

There not. Shops open that shouldn't be open. It's all pretend click and collect, but sure your here anyway, come in and buy what you like. I've seen it in loads of shops in dublin. People still working, this is nothing like the last lockdown.
