I'm not going to lie I would have loved to have seen Carla Gugino as Catwoman.

Where did he say that? I can't find anything recent but I do recall him saying it before.

When I read the likes of Hush and the Long Halloween recently, Guigino was the first that came into my mind as the character. She would be fantastic.

It really is to be spoilt being a comic book fan these days.

Zack Snyder has released these pics as a first look. He leaked them through an interview with The Nerd Queens on Youtube.

    Darkseid

    Martian Manhunter (poor quality)

    Your thoughts?

I was hoping for a crazy alien Darkseid design but he looks surprisingly pedestrian in design there.

Then again after Doomsday was inextinguishable from a troll in the LOTR or HP series I don't know what I was hoping for.

There's concept art out there of Steppenwolf that looks fantastic. I was hoping Darkseid would follow that general look.

Apparently there’ll only be about 5 minutes of actual new footage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,616 ✭✭✭The White Wolf

Seen that....don't believe it. But I suppose 5 mins is a long time in a Snyder film.

Is that 5 mins pre or post slow-mo?

Assuming it's all Knightmare stuff then

Huh, I think I'd have preferred the colour version; just feels like they threw a B&W filter over the footage without bringing any strong use of light & shadow. The Lighthouse it ain't lol :D

Now there's a set of clothes you don't want to put on inside-out :D

Bit disappointed as I was hoping for the more alien design but ah well.

Have to laugh at Snyder as he called Suicide Squad "video-gamey" in an interview yet his designs so far I've found only so-so CGI fests.

Jesus that design is dreadful, as much as the original one was a trainwreck it was simple and not overwrought like the new one.
Gotta laugh at the "new" trailer as well.

Zack wants this in Black and White, the movie wasn't filmed with that intention, it's pointless and doesn't look especially impressive with the lack of colour. I don't understand why he would want it in B&W

It's especially odd as it's not like Synder is some amateur chump who wouldn't know better; whatever else one says of the man, his films always look quite slick. The B&W here doesn't work 'cos, as you say, it wasn't filmed with that intent.

Absolutely he should and does know better. This is like film school amateur level stuff to just put it in black and white as if it gives it some significance. I guess Zach has always had a certain washed out look to his films and sort of detested the bubble gum look of superhero but this is ridiculous.

At least with something like Logan, the black and white visuals suited the Western vibes of the film and even in that case not all the shots suited the Noir look.

Is the whole movie going to be in black and white??

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 26,298 Mod ✭✭✭✭CramCycle

I presumed the B&W was to hide the sh1tty special effects that we had in the original version. I presume the whole movie isn't in B&W

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,793 ✭✭✭FunLover18

Aren't we getting the black Superman suit in this version, B&W would completely make take away the impact of that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,391 ✭✭✭macslash

From further investigation there will be a B&W version and a normal version in full colour.

Justice League’: WarnerMedia Says It’s Concluded Investigation, ‘Remedial Action’ Taken
WarnerMedia said in a statement on Friday evening that it’s concluded its investigation into the set of “Justice League.”

“WarnerMedia’s investigation into the ‘Justice League’ movie has concluded and remedial action has been taken,” the statement reads.

It’s unclear what the “remedial action” entails, and WarnerMedia declined to give further details when pressed by Variety.

In August, Variety learned that WarnerMedia launched an investigation into the DC Comics movie after one of the film’s stars, Ray Fisher, publicly accused filmmaker Joss Whedon and producers Geoff Johns and Jon Berg of misconduct on the set.

Fisher tweeted about the news on Friday, saying he was sent the following statement on behalf on WarnerMedia: “WarnerMedia appreciates you having the courage to come forward and assist the company with creating an inclusive and equitable work environment for it’s employees and partners.”

“There are still conversations that need to be had and resolutions that need to be found,” the actor added. Regarding the “remedial action,” Fisher wrote, “some we’ve seen, and some that is still to come

Fisher implying the reason Joss left The Nevers is what I take from that.

Man, the rubbernecker in me would love to know the gory details that necessitated this "remedial action" in the first place. You'd have to wonder if this is basically Whedons career dead in the water: I'd long wondered if this schtick had worn out its welcome anyway, a writer from a bygone era whose directing left a lot to be desired. If he's now persona non Grata at WB it could be a while before he headlines a gig (well, there's as good a chance now of Netflix opening their checkbook, as they're want to do)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,616 ✭✭✭The White Wolf

When you think about it what was Whedon really up to as a director before Marvel needed reliable hand to manage a key ensemble film.

At that point he was working more on comics than behind the camera after Dollhouse was nixed.

He was never in demand really bar that brief dalliance WB/DC had with him so his career has hardly gone down in flames because it was never alight in the first place.

I heard something about this a while back. What exactly did Joss do?

AFAIK nobody knows "exactly", so this is just me speculating without any firm knowledge but I get the impression he was a bit of an abusive prick on the set with people - Ray Fisher seemingly the brunt of a lot of it. I'm not aware there was any sexual element to the abuse. The reading between the lines is that Whedon was sacked from his new show "The Nevers" as part of "remedial action" taken by Warner Brothers.

Snyder is also remastering and restoring the IMAX aspect ratio to Batman vs Superman.

Exclusive: Zack Snyder's Justice League might get R-rated theatrical release

Zack Snyder is looking to bring his highly anticipated director's cut of Justice League to the big screen — and his new footage would likely tip the four-hour opus into an R-rating.

"Here's one piece of information nobody knows: The movie is insane and so epic and is probably rated R — that's one thing I think will happen, that it will be an R-rated version, for sure," Snyder tells EW. "We haven't heard from the MPAA, but that's my gut."

Asked for details about what makes the new footage explicit, Snyder reveals, "There's one scene where Batman drops an F-bomb. Cyborg is not too happy with what's going on with his life before he meets the Justice League, and he tends to speak his mind. And Steppenwolf is pretty much just hacking people in half. So [the rating would be due to] violence and profanity, probably both."

Perhaps an even bolder move than a cussing Dark Knight is Snyder pushing for Warner Bros. to release his recut and supersized HBO Max film on the big screen in 2021, at a time when parent company WarnerMedia is trying to boost its nascent streaming service with as much exclusive content as possible. To be clear, a decision on whether to release the film theatrically has not yet been made, and Warner Bros. had no comment for this story. But Snyder has previously stated that adding a big-screen rollout along with the HBO Max release is his preference and now the director suggests steps are being taken in that direction.

"I'm a huge fan and a big supporter of the cinematic experience, and we're already talking about Justice League playing theatrically at the same time it's coming to HBO Max," Snyder says. "So weirdly, it's the reverse [of the trend]."

Warner Bros. is releasing every film on its 2021 slate on HBO Max at the same time as their theatrical release, a move that's drawn considerable criticism from filmmakers such as Christopher Nolan and Judd Apatow. Where did Snyder land on this polarizing issue? "It felt like a pretty bold move and that maybe the implication wasn't 100 percent thought out," he says. "I feel like there's a lot of people panicking during COVID. I hope that, in the end, that's what this was — some sort of knee-jerk to COVID and not some sort of greater move to disrupt the theatrical experience. I thought we were kind of already getting very close to the ideal theatrical window where you still had marketing material out there and you hadn't forgotten about the film by the time it came out on DVD or streaming. I thought we were starting to hone in on that sweet spot, but this kind of throws a monkey wrench in the works."

Snyder was the original director on Justice League and then stepped down from the project. Director Joss Whedon took over the film and shot new footage for the theatrical version released in 2017, which received a negative reception from fans and critics. After a massive fan lobbying campaign to "Release the Snyder Cut," WarnerMedia decided to fund Snyder's vision to rework the film into a limited series for HBO Max at a reported cost of up to $70 million. Snyder's new footage, shot over eight days, includes scenes with the core cast, including Ben Affleck (Batman) and Ray Fisher (Cyborg).

Zack Snyder's Justice League is coming to HBO Max as a four-part event series (and, hopefully, to theaters) in 2021.

That's the kind of thing that worries me about Zack. He goes on about something as innocuous as a curse being the coolest thing ever.

Above all else I'm just hoping for a story that makes sense.

This entire project has strayed way into the over-egging of the pudding; "the Synder Cut" doesn't exist anymore, it's just some weird behemoth at this point...

That’s not necessarily a bad thing. Until I see it I will reserve judgment but perhaps the nature of how this is actually happening means Snyder is now able to push the boat out a lot more then he would originally been allowed. Perhaps some of the changes would not of been in his original plans because he would certainly not of starting the JL with an R rating in mind. In short, maybe he’s going wild because he can, it’s fascinating to see what he comes up with.
