From what I remember they were going to Finns Corner also. They may have an upstairs.

They were meant to downsize a good bit.

I thought Easons were taking Argos, or at lease one floor of it

    Ya, I heard that also.
Isn’t their planning on for the Argos unit now.
Can’t remember the exact details of it.

Can we get Comet Records back just over the road from Finns Corner?!!

Now that would really warm my heart!

Hi, would anyone know of any cafe etc that is open with outside seating around the city?

The Doughhut in Douglas Community Park sell takeaway coffee and their benches are still there, just moved farther away from the van.

Strictly speaking, they should be takeaway only, with no outside seating but I've seen some leave tables outside and there's nothing to stop you using public benches etc.

About 100 people outside electric last night again!!

I just don't get the obsession with takeaway pints in a plastic glass, people can't be that stuck for a pint

Bierhaus has savage beers on draught available for takeaway in growlers...!

FWIW, it's probably a social outlet. I doubt it's a lot of people going out in their own units without meeting friends & buddies.

Such good news - great unit for it, and more apartments in the centre is great.

Which also means its not Easons going in there - and based on the planning for Queens Old Castle I dont think theyre going in there (could be wrong). So we should have them taking another unit which is good news. The Selected/ Vila units wouldn't be bad for them, or Clarks even if they do want to go smaller. No shortage anyway, hopefully we will see local businesses popping up and taking some of them vacated by the British chains

Are you saying takeaway pints without food

Are you saying takeaway pints without food

Yes.... Electric sell takeaways drinks and folk congregate outside in the park socialising. There's been well over a hundred there on weekend nights and the mess the following morning is indicative of that.

Electric are essentially availing of the park as an outdoor area for their takeaway pints but that isn't a populist thing to say.... Electric would no doubt claim they are unaware of it.

    Indeed, outdoor pubs essentially.

TBH, Electric have zero control where their patrons go after they buy food and drink. The park is not theirs to move people on when they congregate.

Oh I know. How wonderful for them, I've no doubt they are oblivious to it and of course don't notice folk returning every 30mins for their 2nd, 3rd or 4th takeaway drink.

And what would you like electric to do about it?

I think they should be mindful of the restrictions and the spirit of the restrictions. Ignoring that I'd like them to clean up after their patrons litter a park.

Folk on boards were publicising that during previous lockdowns an brog (same owner iirc) were operating in breach of several regulations when they had the roof terrace of voodoo open.... No food orders taken from some tables and no enforcement that folk left after the allowed time period.

The owners seem to repeatedly be not quite where they should be wrt the spirit of covid19 restrictions.

Firstly no it’s not the same owners.
Secondly how can you ascertain they are not mind full? We’re you in there? Do you know the brief the staff have been given? They are operating within the guidelines serving take away alcohol.
So you expect cantys too clean up Oliver plunnket street, le chatuex too clean patricks street, soho clean grand parade, brick lane and all the other bars operating within the guidelines after the year they’ve put down too go and clean the streets? Or Is your issue solely towards electric?

The “spirit” of Covid 19 restrictions? Your actually having a laugh when I thought your post was serious to this point...

The amount of people who couldn’t care about restrictions is growing Daily and your asking people too respect the spirit of them? When you try to lock healthy people up this is the outcome. And leading into Xmas it’s only going to increase and rightfully so.. I know of many local publicans gearing up for take away drinking also

They’re owned by different people and by all accounts from what I’ve seen on social media, everywhere in town was busy last night, not just Electric.
There were huge queues outside SoHo, Brick Lane, Le Chateau, Sober Lane and The Roundy too.
My brother drove through at about 8pm and he said everywhere was really busy despite the cold and rain.

Rather than sanctimoniously complain about it I think it’s very telling to see so many people blatantly breaking restrictions.
The likes of this would never have been seen a few weeks into the first lockdown, and it certainly wouldn’t have been seen as socially acceptable to post about it on social media.

The government have lost the public buy in, especially from those aged 18-30. They feel forgotten about and marginalised.
They are among those who have lost out the most financially, socially and employment wise from these lockdowns.
When support is lost, it’s near impossible to win it back. The finger wagging from King Tony is clearly falling on deaf ears. They do not care.
And as the weeks go on, it will only diminish further.

Perhaps instead of bemoaning them their takeaway pints on a bleak November night it might be more worthwhile to address how we got here in the first place.
Their lives have been completely on hold for over 8 months now, with no end in sight and nothing to look forward to but another 9 months of despair and rolling full lockdowns.
They had no respite during the summer when our european neighbours were all open for business.

When you look at it from their perspective with that in mind, it’s really not that surprising that people are so fatigued and sick of the inept government response to this that they’re just doing as they please.
And next month will only be worse if they extend the lockdown.

Brilliant post and much more balanced then mine but I feel the point is much the same but yours articulated far superior.

I’d extend the losing the age parameters from 18-30 too 18-40 as 90% of the people in my age group of 30+ have visitors over every week. People in for dinner and drinks, people working on their houses as foxers people using homemade gyms together etc the list goes on and on. Reopen the country and try too keep awareness up and the measures we’ve seen previously implemented in cafes restaurants bars gyms etc is far safer then the alternative we are seeing now

Not everyone around that park in electric is buying drink from Electric, a lot of them would have their own drink in bags with them.

I'd expect businesses to clean outside their premises if the area is littered with their takeaway litter. Hillbillies do this for years.

The longer folk ignore the spirit of the restrictions the longer businesses will be mandated to close in further lockdwns.... It's incredibly simple.

Apologies... I wasn't aware Ernest was no longer involved in voodoo...

I'm in my 30s myself but am keeping to the spirit of the restrictions.... Primarily so businesses can reopen and folk can get back to work as well as to limit the spread of the disease.

Indeed... But the takeaway pints being consumed there is the initial catalyst for that area being a drinking garden.

Ah yes.... Alleged hysteria. I assume you are one of those who reckon covid19 isn't at all that serious and we should all behave normally and fnck the elderly and immuno compromised.... Let them look after themselves and let the hospitals be overrun. Ah yes.....

No outbursts now fin... We don't want a repeat of your last episode.

Yes, it's been an unofficial Electric beer garden for a while.

Ernest was involved for 6-12 months when it first opened. Hasn’t had anything too do with their in along time. Your very picky in the bars your mentioning especially as secret garden was one allegedly flouting rules also and opened for take away at the moment but escapes your watchfull all seeing eye.

No it’s not incredibly simple. people have suffered through the toughest lockdown in the whole of Europe once already and will not do so a second or third time. People are not sheep. Lockdown 1 happened. We followed it. We were thanked and told now we’re going too learn too live along side it. Cases spiked for many reasons. But the average joe soap now can’t meet friends, have a pint, play a match, go to the gym etc which all may have been a factor but other factors such as international travel, poor working conditions, lack of screening for workers coming in from abroad etc are all as you were. If they were serious about this a lot more could be done but they won’t

This is here with us till we have a vaccine and no amount of hand washing and hiding in home will expedite that.
