First part in bold - cases are going up.

Dr Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health, said: “The increase in case numbers of COVID-19 today is an important reminder of the unpredictable nature of this highly infectious disease.

    2nd point in bold

CMO said: If we can keep up high levels of compliance, we can get to where we need to be on December 1.”

    https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/we-must-not-allow-our-success-to-let-us-drop-our-guard-against-covid-nphet-warns-as-seven-deaths-and-482-new-cases-confirmed-39744570.html

Have you ever thought why Tony H has never said what is the number of cases where we need to be? Irish public are being treated like absolute idiots and you keep banging the drum lockdowns are working. 7 people died today with a positive PCR test. 4 died in entire August. No lockdown in August. Level 5 in November. Explain? Public disobedience is it?

Or perhaps, covid is a seasonal illness, and no matter how many business you shut down you ll always have people dying with covid in the colder months, and have "cases"?

So this is where you are now!

Neither sight nor sound from you on the Sweden thread now and for a time you practically lived on that thread. Last time you were on there it sounded like you were packing your bags and going on the next flight out.

You going so quite have anything to do with your lockdown hero Joha Giesecke ? Not as much as a cheep out of him either for some time now

If you want to see numbers you should take a look there. Never mind Ireland, where do you see they will be onDecember 1.
Just double our population, no lockdown and over 30,000 new cases for the last week and rising. 5,990 for yesterday alone.
That strategy you were so much in favour of is really working out well isn`t. Herd immunity there is a roaring success alright.

Anyone on here arguing with nofools is wasting their time. He has fallen hook line and sinker for NPHET’s (2020 code name for the HSE) nonsense and he’s not for changing at this point. It’s easier fool someone than convince them they have been fooled unfortunately.

this is full on down the rabbit hole stuff.
covid certainly isn't a code name for HSE failings, which are an issue.
    it's a real existing virus.

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

    Judgemental much?

"You'll do what you're told. Job losses and paycuts are a necessary sacrifice, except mine of course which is indispensable". Rinse and repeat for NPHET and other patronising egoists.

Actually i don't follow them at all.

Just common sense. I have generally been right all along, I knew from the outset that the Sweden idea was doomed to fail. I knew the USA were screwed before they were screwed because of the partisan anti mask thing.

The main proponents of the opposite view have been proven wrong time and time again and of course they have because they are just making it up as they go, there is no logic or science driving it, just emotion.

So you can think i have been fooled I'm perfectly fine with that.

Selfish spoiled and frankly weak attitude.

We need to grow a pair and practice some delayed gratification.

Man's need are few and wants are many.

We are too soft and have grown to consider luxuries as rights.

This is coming from the bloke who can't see how people with mortgages and families to provide for have it tougher than him. Here he is talking about people being soft like he's some ****ing Spartan. Calm down you're not Bear Grylls mate.

He has a book to flog. All these lot have their “special interests”. Covid has been the mana from heaven gelling it all altogether

Yes indeed- it’ll be the “Essential” worker set that will be preaching all of the above.

I'm convinced at this point that if NPHET started telling people that the best way to fight covid was to stick your bollocks in a paper shredder that half the country would.

When the lockdown was hinted back in October, those in favour of it amongst the general public said 'if we lock down now we can save Christmas' now Christmas is right around the corner and it seems to me that those people are now saying 'ah sure there's next Christmas'

It's actually getting ****ing tragic now people are like battered housewives at this point coming back for more and more.

Irish media is garbage. The only time I see RTE news is at my parents house. Truly Dreadful rubbish

Just do what is best for you. You seem to get very worked up about others doing what they feel is best.

I care about people a lot actually, I just don’t have tunnel vision on one issue like you do.
I care about people who are out of work, whose businesses are about to go under, those living in severe financial distress, missing out on cancer screenings/consultations and counselling sessions, isolated lonely elderly people who the lockdown has effected most, fathers missing the birth of their children and women giving birth alone & getting the worst news possible without the support of their partner, those whose mental health is suffering and are suicidal, those who can’t even properly say goodbye to a loved one and can’t give them the send off they deserve, and those who are living in hostile and potentially dangerous homes with no escape.
They all matter and are worthy of consideration too.

The lockdown & restrictions are having massive negative long term consequences for all those people and their futures, but to use your own words against you, you mustn’t be the ‘type to ever give a damn about anyone else’.
I also care about coronavirus but it’s very clear to me that protecting people from the virus needs to be balanced against the needs and quality of life of everyone else, and at the moment it’s not.
We’re a one issue government and a one issue society. It’s like they’re pretending every other problem has disappeared.

We accept that death is an unfortunate part of life, unless it’s covid related, in which case we need to stop it at all costs no matter what the price. Even at the expense of the majority.
But you can pat yourself on the back with the self righteous knowledge that you’re ‘saving lives’, while ignoring the elephant in the room that is the huge amount of indirect deaths these restrictions are going to cause, and how many futures and lives are being ruined as we speak.

I have always been very clear that I followed restrictions during the first lockdown, I never claimed otherwise. Nice try at having a passive aggressive dig, though.

    When I told you.

Read back, you said that my plight didn't matter more than families with mortgages.

Anyway I am not crying about it, will adapt.

Can I ask you a serious question ? Why does it bother you if others are sticking to the restrictions ?
If i stay in my house and knit a 20 metre scarf and watch every film on Netflix why does it bother you ?

You have some good points, but we are not in the third world and there are social protections in place. The concept of a "ruined life" is a bit weak in my view. Many of us are poorer and a bit depressed but it will end eventually (and the view in this thread is what sustains it longer than it should).

Most of us have to adapt in some shape or form.

That is life, full of surprises.

I wouldn't feel too guilty about having a friend over for some wine, that is grand in the scheme of things.

To be blunt you can poledance around your house for Christmas if you want. My only problem is the people who seemingly take it upon themselves to act as some sort of moral police. There was some poster in the travel thread saying he'll 'remember' anyone who goes abroad. That's the kind of stuff that gets my goat up

Are you not just the other side of that coin, equally hysterical.

The late late will be on soon for all you masochists, will give you something to rant and rave about for at least a day.

Why is it bothering you that I stick to the restrictions of 5kms ? Can you explain that to me ?

    Do you only exercise?

You do realise the 5km reference in S.I. 448 is for exercise ONLY? That’s the restriction. Exercise within 5km of home.

I've never posted anything close to a rant on this site to date. I find it amazing that you accuse everyone else of getting emotional when you're the only one who is. You do more projection than an IMAX cinema.
