A relative of mine was at a tyre centre last week, I wont say exactly where but it was in the Northern half of the country. After he had his tyres fitted, the guy working there started talking about covid19.

He said that his uncle was in the local hospital with it and had been written off the week before but had made a miraculous recovery. He went on the say that his sister had tested positive, and so had his mother. This guy wasn't wearing a mask.

Maybe he hadn't been in contact with his sister or his mother.

Im unsure how NI can open more with hospital capacity as it is atm. R0 must be about 1 too as cases not dropping now

Things are really bad for Northern Ireland at the moment, have they even asked the Republic about spare capacity. it looks like they are doing triage as 11 deaths in the space of 24 hours is scary for the size of the region.

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

The Grinch (Dr Tony) has spoken on Newstalk, doesn’t expect there to be any Christmas drinks in pubs this year.

I’m sick of all this head teacher and is being bold pupils crap from NPHET!! Give it a fûcking rest. Yesterday’s press conference was a farce they actually sounded down beat about the vaccine news and I know they can come into it with tassels swinging from their nipples with party poppers but **** it give us some sort of optimism. Even when looking at the papers this morning, it’s a side headline on the front page. Christ this is huge news. People will not tolerate another lock down and I can business giving the middle finger eventually. Our hospital numbers have been driven by outbreaks in hospitals mostly this has not once been acknowledged in any way by NPHET or the HSE, but it’s our fault that’s happened etc...

We need a break the vaccine has given that to us. I’ve followed the rules from the start but my patience is wearing thin now and the fact the amount of people unemployed is going to soar even further now is crazy!!! Feel so sorry for all those businesses and employees who are constantly left in limbo.
This bull**** about making a decision closer to the 1st of December is a joke. Business needs at least 10 days to get their houses in order.

I used to be like that, would get angry with King Tony, nphet and his constant headmaster doom and gloom schtick. Now I don't pay any attention to him. Feel better for it too. While covid is big news its also not the be all and end all.
We don't need a career civil servant constantly lecturing us how we're not there yet, things are very worrying or how the next two weeks are crucial.
By all means be sensible, keep contacts low, wear masks, use sanitiser and don't gather in groups etc. But the days of hanging on the words of the daily presser are long over.

Agree, I dont know when I last watched the 9 O Clock News. I just stopped, months ago, feel so much better for it too. I hear headlines during the day in the car or catch up online. That way its not drip fed to me by NPHET and the school-master doom and gloom tones of Tony Holohan.

I know the vaccine news yesterday is earlier days but he couldn't help pissing all over it.

Even to the point where he appeared to suggest they don't even have a plan with how to administer a roll out of a plan. Ah sure we'll worry about that when we have to lads, nothing to see here, it will be grand.

The petty name-calling of the CMO really doesn't lend any weight to your arguments, the opposite in fact.

Cillian de Gascun must have coped it too because he looked across at T Holohon and then spoke “ Positive news today “ were his first words .

Good news here. Guess vaccine needs 2 does but still decent initial supply for EU when population is 447m. Not sure is UK included but always has Oxford one.

UK doing their own deals, they opted out of the EU vaccine programme.

The requirement to keep it at -80 degrees will be an issue. This isn't something that will be distributed through your GP.

They'll most likely have to outfit a few custom vehicles with the cooling equipment and set up pop-up vaccination centres.

In other words it won't be something you make an appointment for. There'll be a vaccination centre down the road for 2 days and you need to get there before it leaves.

This is correct. NPHET provides expert advice to the government. All decisions are taken by the cabinet. So the view that NPHET is controlling, or even wild irrational statements about a headmaster admonishing children, or living in a police state is either irrational nonsense, or deliberate misinformation for nefarious aims.

All public servants, medical experts, and members of the government are working with one goal - the good of the Irish people. Charges counter to that are groundless.

What is harmful, is non experts giving opinions on the recommendations of experts. Those of good sense know how little they know themselves - and trust those with the right expertise to provide the best guidance.

I call now on all here to cease with their baseless criticism and sowing of distrust for the recommendations of NPHET, and the actions being implemented by the government.
You really need to stop talking down to people as if your opinion is the only one that matters. For all your "critical" analysis you seem to have ignored the fact that people are responding to this in very different ways. That doesn't not make them wrong or stupid and it's just expressing an opinion you may not agree with.

They are working on ways to get that storage temperature up, ideally household fridge temperature by the time it's ready for production

300 m doses would cover a 3rd of the population, would I be right in saying that would equal the total at risk people

There certainly is a case to be made at this point for them to review the script. It is on the negative side and they have a fixation with not being a newspaper headline because of loose words.

"This is not a time for celebration" could have been "While we welcome this very positive news, there's a long way to go on that front and in our own battle with the virus we must continue to stay the course."

I'd say it would have to be some appointment based system otherwise it would be carnage. Plus will only be vaccinating healthcare workers, people in vulnerable categories first. Could see Croke Park and Aviva uses as vaccination centres alright.

Usually around 3, but can be +/– an hour or more.

If cases continue to fall in the north and down here I wonder is there any chance they could work together to try achieve a zero covid island?

With news of the vaccine it now looks a possibility
