It’s not some restrictions, it all restrictions we have suffered for months.

Some people think social distancing and mask wearing isn’t a form of restriction.

For a number of people when all social outlets, personal services and certain retail gets closed that’s referred to as “some restrictions”.

No vaccine approved yet, no end in sight, economic obliteration on the horizon which is likely to last years.

Worse things than death, and sure as **** worse things than Covid.

So let’s be honest and realise that what’s awaiting us in the future will make worrying about a nursing home virus seem laughable

i presume we will open to level 2 have the xmas then lockdown for 6 weeks in mid january to end of februrary for wave 3. Like we know we are going to have wave 3 in february so might as well get hung for sheep as lambs at xmas? sounds like this is the offical plan anyway

What's the point trying to have a genuine conversation when you post something like that?

I thought the justifications for restrictions are fairly obvious? It's to avoid the health system collapsing due to to the number of patients that end up having to be admitted due to Covid. As cases go up so do hospitalizations and deaths.

I'm not for a second saying I like them and don't personally know anyone who does but can see why they are necessary. Its a crap situation for everyone but a lot more so for people who have lost family members, lost jobs, work in healthcare.

Everyone wants things to go back to normal and hopefully will soon but for now we will have to put up with some restrictions as it appears its the only way to deal with this.

So stopping me buying a jumper in Dunnes will stop the health service getting overwhelmed? Does Covid know if I buy an essential or non essential item.

Its a bit Trumpesque but there is a statement in there that isn't entirely false.

Highly unlikely NPHET will recommend anything less than the maximum level restrictions until a vaccine is approved.

Level 5 was recommended when cases numbers we not particularly high remember.

I think you are just taking it to extremes.

Bring it back a level from your local dunnes to the country level and continent level.

    What is your contention?

All restrictions are a joke? Some of them?

You avoided my question about Europe, i answered yours.

The more you fight it the more you force their hand.

Does that not occur to you?

    I’m not fighting it.

I’m giving out about it, trying to articulate the fact that the cure is worse than the disease

    Try and learn the difference

Where in my post did I say that stopping you buying a jumper in Dunne's would do that?

@ John, look at the games to drag with the wider point into some tangent about jumpers.

    Being contrarian is an artform!

It makes light of the just a flu and where are the deaths, hospitals are empty arguments first of all.

It points to why we need to break the cycle right now and lots more.

It shows what can happen if we are weak.

Look I have asked you twice I believe for evidence of your claims, so far all you have done is engaged in deflection and whataboutery. Better just to be honest and say your claims are based on your opinion but devoid of fact.

I didn't say you did but one of the restrictions which you believe is necessary stops me.

There’s a narrative within this thread and it has become an echo chamber with a certain viewpoint. That comes across as extremely negative and is often expressed with ageism. And differing points of view are mostly met by the descending pack.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with differing points of view. In fact differing points of view is very healthy. Democracy is built on respect for difference. But that poster is behaving with zero respect. How many times has he said "I'm right" and addressed those of an opposing view as "You lot" and refuses to provide evidence.

The fact is that nobody is right or wrong in any of this. Opinions are never right or wrong. A lot of people on this thread feel strongly that the restrictions in Ireland are excessive and disproportionate to necessity. Many would prefer to try to live with the virus, albeit with some restrictions until a vaccine arrives. Many have suffered greatly as a result of so many restrictions.

Personally, I certainly don't dismiss the dangers of this virus and have always been compliant. And sometimes agree with the pro restriction people, some of whom are respectful in their interactions here. I don't see this thread as an an echo chamber, I find it interesting and informative but I have no tolerance for insufferable arrogance and agree with Sweetmaggie that posters should not be allowed to dominate and constantly shout others down. But I'll continue to read and post and won't use the ignore function unless absolutely necessary.

Who is stopped from buying a jumper? Click and collect is allowed as well as online shopping.

Nope...i haven't deflected at all but you are still avoiding the fact of a very obvious second wave doing sizeable damage around the continent right now.

Anyway I'm sure you will tire me out eventually. Artful dodging clear as day for the readers to see

Of course some opinions are wrong.

We have a thing called objective truth and don't live in Disneyland. I'm sorry you don't like my tone and I will be more respectful if you at least engage civilly.

You lot is a fair description of a group think club who put differing opinions on ignore by decree but again i apologise if that offends you.

You find my view insufferable arrogant fair enough but i find the same in the opposing view and the shout down gang up nature.

Is it not informative about the nature of the virus and thus the pruducency or not of restrictions?

No. There is no such thing as an incorrect opinion. Just because a person disagrees with the opinion, may even disagree vehemently, it still doesn't make the opinion wrong. Just as the opposite doesn't make the opinion right.

    Facts are a different matter.

I can buy a can of paint while wearing my mask and SD in a store but in the same store I can't buy a picture frame. Can you tell me where is the logic or is Covid conscious of my purchasing choice?

99% tired out, you are winning.

Can we discuss the bigger picture and not jumpers or tins if paint.

As if they were essentials anyway.

I have no interest in discussing something that is not part of the thread topic.
