The Cork case load is still too high. I’m assuming the Level 3+ in Dublin is showing results.

    Cork: 542,868 130 cases
    Dublin: 1.345m 228 cases.

Scaled up to Dublin population that’s 322 cases.

is this the first press conference since the methanol hand sanitiser scandal? they better hammer them on that.

Dept of Ag are the ones to hammer. Also dept of ed for sitting on it for 3 days.

fair enough. no dept of ag presser though so they should be hammering whoever's on the stage.

On the Methanol issue, what is actually allowed?

I have a bottle of hand sanitiser from a very reputable Irish supplier and it says on the bottle “contains methanol” but it’s mostly ethanol.

Whole thing was a bit confusing.

Yup Cork still too high for my liking

Dublin has been under restrictions for far longer though

There seems to be a never ending variance between swabs and daily cases

    True that

They never really seem to catch up though

I wonder what the positive swabs v cases announced is looking like now

720 cases announced so that's 185 of a backlog from somewhere

I have the backlog at -219 now, but only calculated over 14 days. These are exact numbers, so take with some degree of inaccuracy as swab=/=case

What the hell is going on with the Donegal cases? ~50 ~20 ~50 ~7...

    Thanks for that

It does seem a large amount of extra cases announced

no methanol should be in any hand sanitizer. it's extremely toxic.

Just generally being cagey claiming small drop in positivity

Tony now having a scrap with a journo who asked if they went to level 5 too quick and would they evaluate if they did

    Yes. Something wrong somewhere.

I am not sure how cases can overtake positive swabs to this degree

In fairness his questioning was rather stupid, is there a criteria to look at whether we went to level 5 to quickly.

    Why does that even matter

It might matter to thousands who were made unemployed if the justification for the move is suspect.

Expect to see the schools being closed to start slowly feeding in to the case numbers over the course of the next week or so.

What is the positivity rate on close contact tracing? I want to get excited about these numbers and trends but I’m nervous that it’s at the same time as the collapse of contact tracing....

If Tony “mandates” level 5 he shouldn’t have to explain the reasons why.

Bizarre to think he should have to answer any questions

It was 13% last week when asked. It is 10% today when asked.

It usually takes 14 days to see effects so the schools will be back well before that. What we are seeing at the moment is the effect of Level 3+. Level 5 will not be factor for another 7-10 days or so.

I can see why these press conferences go on so long, he doesn't half give a long winded half arsed answer to questions.

Someone should ask about testing/quarantine at airports and international travel. Will anything change after the summer and with rates v high throughout Europe

And the impact of schools being closed for 4 days will be mixed up with the level 5 restrictions kicking in. I'm sure we'll have plenty of posters claiming the numbers are falling because the schools are closed though....

Philip Nolan's midelling prediction of the number of cases notified daily would be in the range of 1,800 – 2,500 cases by October 31st is looking to be very far off the mark going on current trend

They'll be denotified in a few weeks, 20 denotified today and well over 100 for the month. No idea how the methodology hasn't been adjusted after all these months to avoid this but I assume that they want the figures as high as possible.

    Well this is promising!

    fbLDQoO.png

This is fantastic. If we can drop the number of swaps completed, just like we’ve done over the bank holiday weekend, by +3,000 everyday we’ll soon have zero positive swabs.

Wow Israel saying it like it is. I wonder will Leo still quote them as to what can be achieved.
Of course Irish schools are different. My 'Hunch' starting to be backed up by science. Let's hope our fearless leaders act on this pertinent information.
    I won't hold my breath.

There is ongoing discussion at EU level about travel. Plan expected within the next few weeks.
