What do people think? Will you be downloading it?

Now you can support Marxism whilst also supporting Sony Corp.

In general what do people think of gaming getting politicised?

    :pac:

FFS, gaming is already political. The new Call of Duty is full of politics, where you work for Ronald Regan, doing black ops stuff. Plenty of politics all over gaming. Wolfenstein, you fight Nazi's, in the original you fight Hitler. The Gears of War original trilogy was basically about the Iraq war and oil wars and so on. Games have been political for ever.

Secondly, Human Rights are not Marxist.

BLM is specifically a Human Rights movement.

I downloaded it and used the money I would have usually have spent on premium PS4 themes to buy an extra copy of Das Kapital.

I don’t think there’s much value in corporate expressions of performative solidarity (a PS4 theme isn’t going to move the dial on the fight for justice and equality), but it’s better than nothing and if it gives even a few people something they want than it was worthwhile.

And games should be more political. Seeing the likes of Ubisoft games cowardly back away from the political ideas / themes often inherent in the concepts is ridiculous and makes for worse games.

I suppose I don't really want to get into that aspect of the discussion but the BLM founders have specifically identified as Marxist and this movement has its roots in Marxist ideology.

They also call out the nuclear family as an issue to be resolved.

Do you think Sony Corp really cares or is it all marketing to sell more product?

    performative solidarity

    1) Solidarity with black people and specific issues relevant to them? I approve.
    2) Solidarity with Marxism? Moronic.
    3) People who deliberately use 1 to push 2? Insincere, dangerous and exploitative.

It's clearly this. Big corporations love jumping on the bandwagon of the latest social movement. It's all about money, nothing else matters.

I wouldn't consider systemic racism political, but it's the equivalent of a desktop background. A theme that only you can see and does not affect anyone else isn't pushing ideas on anyone else and isn't a big deal really

BLM consider themselves a political movement grounded in Marxism.

Sony are putting this out for free as a show of solidarity with said movement.

The people who organise protests might be but the average black person in America who marches on the street does it because of systemic racism they have experienced not because of politics. White people who march do it in solidarity with their family and friends who are black. Not everything is about Trump

Everything right wingers now is a labelled wrongly as a form of socialism or communism. It's sad when gullible people start swallowing it up and regurgitating it. And it achieves their aim of vilifying a movement about people just looking for some actual human decency.

I thought all the bandwagon jumpers started quietly distancing themselves from BLM .. like 4 months ago. Maybe that's how long it takes for something to get approved in Sony. They'll have a wazzup theme next to tie-in with that Budweiser commercial

Go to the BLM website and read it.

I don’t understand, am I supposed to be angry about Sony offering a free theme in support of the BLM movement?

Maybe Sony aren’t spelling out they’re entire political agenda by offering this. Maybe they recognised that a lot of their player base support BLM and gave them a theme they might like to use.

If this is something that bothers you maybe really think why that is. It’s only a theme, and if you don’t want to use it, don’t use it.

I know why it bothers me. I dislike Marxists and I dislike fake corporate nonsense.

But it’s a theme, for a gaming system, that is in support of equal treatment black people, that nobody is forcing on you. It’s a completely mad thing to be bothered by.

TBH this thread seems like an excuse to give out about Marxism rather than anything to do with this theme.

For what it’s worth, socialist and anti-capitalist ideologies often inevitably get mixed up with other protest movements due to the effect of neo-liberal policy-making and orthodoxy on class and racial division. Fundamental economic reform is for many on the left the crucial factor in addressing justice, poverty, democracy, climate and other major issues - without a change to the status quo, those problems will not be resolved in a satisfactory and permanent way.

*bows out of thread for eternity*

All else aside, it's aesthetically a really nice theme.

I was gonna post the same, but I won't be downloading it. If they removed the text of Black Lives Matter I'd consider it. I avoid most political stuff as I just don't have the patience for it. Water off a ducks back if you will.

But I do also agree it's corporate bandwagonning. Sony no more care about the BLM movement, but it's cool and hip to be down with the latest movements.

Now just waiting for the International Kiss-A-Ginger theme. Basically just a dynamic theme with all the red-headed PS characters. I'd download that alright.

Even the word capitalism has roots in Marxist ideology. Perhaps you should stop using that word because you don't like it.

nice of them to use the proud boys colours though :)

I'm pro black lives matter, I just think the colour scheme looks awful. I'm also just irritated by large corporations co-opting this stuff.

There is a difference between believing the lives of black people matter and supporting the BLM group itself which is a political movement.
