Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

    Kearneys a robbing git, I remember getting my first .22 early 70s, I had a written cover note from mayorstone Bks, Nestors would not give me ammo on the cover note, Kearney did but charged me a fortune knowing I was stuck, when licence came through never darkened his door again after that

    But yes! I heartily concur, as would many others. That SOB diddled me out of an O/U,ok it was a cheap BRNO, but it was the model that was combo and double rifle interchangeable.
    Paid a deposit, and then waited like forever 5 months about then for the grant[pre 06 ] and then had a crisis that I couldn't afford it there and then for the balance.
    The fuker then sold it from under me, never informed me of any of this and then used up the deposit for storage fees.:mad: He went out of business soon after that, about 1993I think? No loss at all.

    Tim Landers..Good man. He stuck with me thru the "arms trials" for my semi-auto rifle, and sorted my first 410 poachers shotgun, that was getting loose in the action Pity he gave up the gunshop, as he did have some exotics betimes in there.
    Are Halpin's gone now as well?

    We started a pistol club in sarsfield barracks in the mid 70s,Eamon Moriarty (RIP) a international pistol and rifle shooter started it,he had connections,gardai gave us the go ahead for the pistols, Eamon Moriarty went overseas for term and was transferred to other units just as we got the thing off the ground,it fell apart shortly after 🥴☹️

    Whatever happened to that range in Sarsfield?Heard it was open for awhile for.22 and air rifle up to the 80s?

    The super in kerry was I believe was anti gun which was the demise of Landers packing in the trade

    I can guess which Super that was too.:mad: The one in the witness box who claimed: "no civilians should have any type of firearms at all.":mad: And thus showed himself to be not fit to be an issuing unbiased authority, fortunately, he is gone as well.

    An old lad here in the district bought and still has a genuine lever-action Winchester 1887 shotgun he bought of Nestors in the 70s for 12 old pounds!:)
    Think it is worth a bit more at this stage.

    If I had the cash back then it was Winchester or Eley from Nestors, if not Kearney sold Record which were a few pounds cheaper.

    They weren't a great gun though were they ? Not like the Humpback semi-auto's and 1897 pump, all designed by Browning.

    Bought a Squires Bingham 22 LR about 1985 from Nestors, still using it. Cost £100.

    Only spotted this thread now, TW Murray's on Patrick's Street is a legendary shop.

    You'll get the same level of service and attention in there if you are buying a one euro packet of trout hooks than you would if you were buying a rod or reel or rifle that cost hundreds. The O'Connell family that own it have encouraged more youngster's to enjoy fishing and hunting than any other business or family I know of.

    I was in there decades ago buying some rods and reels as prizes for a juvenile competition we were running and when Mr. O'Connell was totting up the bill he rounded every thing down like they always do and then gave the last item free of charge on top of it. "Herra we have to look after the youngsters, shur aren't they the future of our sport". He still does it, a proper gentleman and a pleasure to do deal with.

    That's interesting! I brought it up to Walter Phelan ( Irish Shooting and Fishing Museum) and he estimated around 1850 or so when the case was made! Looks like I might have something quite rare!

    Pat was a nice chap, but his business was fishing tackle, he never did much on the shooting front. I bought cartridges there on occassion, but i don't think he even stocked guns in the shop in Temple Bar.

    Rorys is the only place city centre that you can get anything to do with shooting now, he might have an old shotgun or two for sale and he does stock ammunition.

    Jack Carrs was in south King street for a very long time and i think that there was a robbery in that shop and he moved over to Pearce Street after that.
