Is VVD out for the season? Assume that's speculation at this point or has something been confirmed about his time out?

    Good enough confirmation for me

It's his cruciate so can't see it being less than 6 months.

Other teams including Everton have in the past sent official letters to PGMOL asking for explanations into refereeing decisions in there games.

So this isn't just a big team doing it for the first time Liverpool are in fact following on from what other teams have done.

Oh they are entitled to write away.

But how often has the PGMOL itself come out to explain a bad decision? That's not a rhetorical question, I don't know the answer as I didn't really follow the PL over the years...

Exactly. Jesus, you would think this is the first time a reckless challenge has occurred and resulted in an injury. It is football, it happens unfortunately.

With VAR it shouldn't have been overlooked that is the point. I think they should explain. Not least because some fans are speculating whether VAR can or can not intervene after play is called back for offside.

Why should they be some omnipotent power that can't be questioned? They should have to explain things that happen.

If referees issued their report and explained why decisions were made it would be a positive move.

It would give some transparency to decisions of the officials and VAR.

    Quiet a few times actually

    2019
Mike Riley admits to four VAR blunders
The Premier League will maintain its “minimum interference” approach for VARs to only intervene on blatant errors despite referees’ chiefs admitting to four clear mistakes in the 40 matches so far this season.

Mike Riley, the managing director of the elite referees body PGMOL, told club chairmen yesterday that it was accepted two penalties should have been awarded, to Manchester City and West Ham United, while a Newcastle United goal should have been ruled out for handball. He also said the Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans should have received a red card for a challenge on Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson.

Riley said lessons had been learnt as a result of the mistakes and that the 23 officials who are trained as VARs would be more likely

    Here is another.
    2020

VAR officials admit 'human error' as Giovani Lo Celso avoids red card vs Chelsea

PGMOL attribute mistake to "human error by video officials"; No retrospective action possible as is reserved for incidents "not captured by the match officials or VAR"

Aurier and Sanchez make for quality viewing, gonna need to score lots of goals this season to make up for the dross at the back.
