Honestly, I think everyone is doing their best at the top level. Problem is people are frustrated, and scared sh1tless in some cases.

So the natural reaction is to lash out and blame someone. I'm guilty of it myself, like when I tested positive I was looking for someone to blame.

But the truth is it's no one's fault. It's a once-in-a-lifetime pandemic and nobody, career politicians, experienced healthcare professionals, virologists, nobody has dealt with it before.

Yes there have been mistakes on all fronts, but that is part of dealing with something you have never encountered before. It's a lot of trial and a lot of error.

I mean this post is likely to be attacked with various failures of both the government and NPHET and while they ring true, I absolutely have no doubt they are trying their absolute best for the good of the country.

I just sometimes wish they stopped playing the 'game' and were 100% honest with people. But maybe the truth would scare us even more, I dunno.

Excluding the last paragraph, which I don’t really understand, this is the best post I’ve seen on here during the pandemic. Absolutely spot on. Well done.

    Irish Times reports here (paywall):

    - Some Ministers believe Government will approve new nationwide restrictions between Level 4 and Level 5 in coming days.
    - Six-week duration likely to meet resistance/not be agreed.
    - Ministers also consider that the stipulation in Level 5 that people stay within five kilometres of their home is not necessary.
    - Conflict with teachers unions expected if schools were to remain open.

Seems we will go to level 5 with no duration and no radius limits and no school closures (optional under Phase 5). Is that others reading into this?

If the IT leak is right/wrong, what way do people think it’ll go? Quick straw poll, I think they’ll have to go 5 based on the positive swabs, but not sure they’ll have bottle or internal party support for it so could go 4.5

Would it be fair to say that if level 4 or 5 is brought in and schools are kept open, we should know (or have a good idea) after about two weeks what impact the schools are actually having ?

Level 4 is my guess with a few things borrowed from level 5. Level 5 is just too controversial between pissing off teachers / closing schools, and shuttering a lot of the economy. No other countries in Europe are taking measures that extreme with multiples of our cases. Who would pay for it?

Why dont we just go to level 4 so? These halfway house measures are a complete fudge. We made a structure, might be worth using it

Why don't they just say "as long as it takes", as everyone knows that is what it will be anyway?

Countrywide level 4 midweek, announcement about level 5 next week and extension to school break depending on how numbers go.

NPHET are making it up as they go along. **** the economy, they could turn the country into North Korea and they'll still get paid.

What would happen, they close retail and outdoor cafes, restaurants

Do they really think this will bring us back to the figures they want?

Which part of level 5 do you think would make the difference?

People are still working on-site who can work remotely. Businesses/ Line Managers should have to provide justification if they require employees on-site presence.

Go 4 and things don't go the right way, they'll get the blame. Go 5 and things don't go the right way, we get the blame.

Well nobody seems to be blaming retail for increased cases, and properly controlled pubs/restaurants are not crammed full of heavy breathers, which is what WHO is saying is the issue.

    So why close them.

I can't handle the Irish media coverage of it in general. Everything is a leak, or a scandal or something so morbidly depressing you just feel terrible after reading.

And that's before we get to the quality of questions at the bi-weekly pressers.

They actually do want us all hiding in our houses for the next 12 months, they are an embarrassment.

I've completely stopped watching the news and unfortunately cant listen to talk radio anymore. The constant news is more depressing than the reality of the situation.

Half the members of nphet are part of the hse, who has the most to lose if the hospitals get shown up for the **** show they are. They will do whatever it takes to save face and keep their jobs and us idiots can't see it.

I think we should draft in some outside help, perhaps we could invite someone from the ECDC to be external advisor to NPHET.

I’m guessing something like this, call it “level 5 minus” . All of level 5 except for schools, manufacturing , construction, essential retail open.

Going level 5 will have the opposite effect...people are that pissed off with the lack of direction and enforcement that they wont abide by level 5 restrictions.

Level 3 needs more time to work. There is already some evidence that its working albeit very slowly.

Why do people care so much about people buying stuff? It's called stimulating the economy plus it's only the person's business if they're stocking up on pasta or whatever.

Going to get groceries is pretty exciting, compared to last year. It's one of the most exciting things I do these days.
