Government really trying to show themselves as the good guys to the public and ignoring the experts.. we will go into level 4 and they will expect a pat on the back from joe public for saving us from level 5 lockdown.
If a few weeks if numbers sore they will say they had everyone’s best interest by resisting level 5 ..

My own opinion is that it won’t make a blind bit of difference going into level 5 , people who ignore level 3 won’t suddenly start to adhere to level 5 .. stay on level 3 and introduce fines for those breaking the rules.

That's fine and I agree with you but how many schools is this happening? If it's a lot the data won't show a true reflection of the case incidence in schools so can't tell you if there is a big issue or not.

The number of children tested is available - see Dannyboy's tweet. That's the whole point - there will always be instances of kids not being tested when we think they should be but, overall, lots of kids are being tested

Would their recommendation not have included the reasons for in the first place? Strange.

They will likely also discuss the impact that moving to level 4 might have on the virus.

This implies they’re thinking of doing with it surely?

Go Tony! go Tony! Only Dr Hulahoop can rattle some sense into those politicians who are doubting the scientific consensus. Dr Glynn is the worst Harry Potter lookalike sidekick ever. He really dropped the ball when the Boss was away. I bet Dr Tony steam cleaned his glasses for him when he got back.

It means that they're asking NPHET to justify their recommendation. Just like they did a couple of weeks ago (when NPHET were unable to back up their recommendation).

Yes, but are those children counted as school tests because they are children?

I got one of my kids tested in early Sept, they had a cough which was the reason for the test, I counted 70 other kids there while I was at testing centre. There were a lot of bugs flying around when schools first reopened and the majority of parents were getting their children tested as per regulations.

There is not mass testing going on in schools despite what is said in the media.

People should pull on the green jersey when they are staying home to stay safe the next time. A bit of patriotism. We have the hand of destiny on our shoulder as we hold firm in the face of the terrifying virus. Holding firm on the home front as our hero’s man the barricades. If there is a god he would be on our side. In it together as we stay apart. Hunkered down with our essentials waiting for George Lee and Dr Hulahoop to comfort us, those old familiar faces that warm our hearts and give us hope. Dark days indeed but if we follow the guidelines at least some of us might make it.

Reports they were going to go with level 4 earlier?

So level 4 with pieces of 5

Our elected government is about to do what they are elected to do. Consider the advice they have been given but weigh it up with other considerations. Nphet despite the desire of many do not run the country.
Our elected government are responsible for the horrendous situation we are in right now by deciding not to listen to NPHET and instead try and discredit them by leaking information to the media.
    They are a thundering disgrace.

    Where ?

Morning papers are NPHET advice to be rejected, "government sources" doing the usual leak to journalists already.

We can see what way this is going

He said it not so long ago in a briefing. They need to bring the case numbers down before the Christmas and for the Christmas. He said, going into the Christmas with 50 cases a day would be better than going into the Christmas with hundreds of cases a day.

I really don't think people are able to grasp what he's saying here. If we continue on the same path we are on and we are seeing approx 800 to 1000 cases a day now, this figure will rise.

Many people will refuse to keep Christmas a low key event this year and many will not hold back and restrict their movements and keep their contacts low. If we go into the Christmas seeing 1000s of cases a day, this Christmas will be very bleak with sickness, hospitalisations and death this year for many families.

It may come as a surprise to you but Nphet's role is to advise government , that's it . They are not in a position to rule by decree. The government has to balance the advice against multiple factors. As for leaks , Nphet were engaging with the media before the restrictions for Dublin were advised to government. That is not the way to behave. It does division.

I am not being funny... But what horrendous situation? We are not Italy in March, deciding who lives and dies... Hospitals are busy but not full. Covid accounts for about 10-12% of ICU figures...

The fact Tony has been called in despite the letter explaining their reasoning says that cabinet are not convinced at all at all

If you’re genuinely suffering I’d suggest trawling twitter for every possible negative study about covid isn’t going to do wonders for your mood or outlook...

Probably worth finding a good series on Netflix and ignoring the news for a week or so -

Can you prove that not going to level 5 that time has resulted in increased cases?

We can see what way this is going

Independent “ There is a growing belief that Cabinet will again shoot down Nphet's call for the highest level of coronavirus regulations and instead introduce Level 4 restrictions.

However, senior figures in the two main Government parties say it is inevitable countrywide near-lockdown restrictions will be introduced in the coming days.”

Times quote a government source as we probably are going to have to seriously consider going to a Level 4”.

Same on radio all morning also

Very clearly level 4 is being seriously considered and the option most likely

Now this gave me a laugh. You have trawled the net and Twitter looking for the most obsure and negative stuff you could find and now you are having a go at someone behaving in the same manner as you have been for months.
