How many available for people suffering from cancer or are they irrelevant

Why not read the report to find out?

Almost 90% of the ICU beds occupied are currently occupied by non-Covid related illnesses. Obviously ICU beds will be used for whoever might need them, Covid and non Covid cases.

379 available general medical beds nationwide as of 8am this morning.

Yeah, New Zealand, those idiots. I'll tell you what they are really bottom of the class in terms of how to handle this.

Shh don’t mention New Zealand or how well they handled it, that seems to upset a lot of people on here for some reason.

Always find it funny that people don't know for one that new Zealand is actually 2 islands miles apart.

Oh and each island has no border.

But sure that's exactly the same as Ireland:)

We should have set up 100 of those ICU Shipping Containers during the summer, but we didn't. We did nothing to prepare for the second wave
The bigger problem than the physical space and equipment for ICU beds is the availability of skilled staff to actually care for those patients.

There’s every chance the govt will pull back on this. Either way level 3 has to be given the 3 weeks

Looking at that they seem to be 10 years ahead of us with an end of life choice and cannabis legalisation referendum.

Time for both of those referendums here and I will go for them as long as there is sensible regulation.

The first would need a public vote, would vote yes personally as long as the legislation around it is sound.
The second could be changed without a public vote if I remember correctly. 50/50 on it as wouldn't be a user, especially wouldn't give the scrotes smuggling and dealing it money, but can see the argument for legalizing.

I think some people really believe you just put a patient in a coma, shove a ventilation tube down their lungs, hit the on button on it and that's it for a few days/weeks.
They kind are oblivious to the fact it takes 6/7 highly trained nurses to look after each and every ICU bed. The staff you can just order in bulk from a supplier like the beds!

    HSE operations report
    249 in hospital
    30 in ICU, 18 ventilated
    Available ICU beds 31

Not bad all things considered. But they really should consider buying/taking over a private hospital or two. I think there was 900 hospitalised back in April and 150 in icu so a good way to go to match that.

New Zealand is an isolated group of islands, quite literally thousands of miles from anywhere else, that are sparsely populated.

New Zealand has done a remarkable job and the government and people there should be applauded, but this is not a level playing field.

No chance. We're going to level five. They might try to soften it a little or make a few more exceptions about what businesses are classed as essential.

Ssh for some reason plenty around won't like that being pointed out.
    I've done it right ?

If the government don't want to move to level 5 and also want to provide day to day healthcare, they really will need to start looking at capacity in private hospitals.

Dublin still holding steady, but at too high a level.

    OK....

So why think Ireland can achieve the same results?

You're pulling that statement out of your arghus, as it stands it's a recommendation only.

You said that after the summer people (suddenly became) complacent... is that a scientific fact or was it due to the change of seasons where respiratory illness traditionally starts to take hold? Or do you not know what you meant?

People became complacent during the summer as the Covid-19 numbers dropped. A substantial amount of people reacted to the daily cases and thought we were in the clear and can we can go on as we were before.

It looked like we were on the right path and could get away with being more relaxed. Now that the conditions for Covid to spread are more suitable, temperature, people in enclosed spaces more often etc there is no room for complacency.

The complacency has continued as you can see in the last two weeks with the GAA celebrations.

Covid- 19 as a seasonal respiratory disease combined with complacency brought on by a summer lag resulting in a substantial increase is as about as simple as I can make it for you.

Have cabinet a backup plan or are they hedging their bets on level 3 and visitor restrictions being enough?
Without enforcement, I don't think it will be, but I'll gladly like to be proven wrong!

That is pretty much lockdown without the 5km rule isn't it and professional sports? Is there much difference really or would it just be a tactic for them to say "Not lockdown but"

Let's see where we are in due time so. Hey, we might get level four for a week or even two, but I've no doubt we'll eventually end up in five.

Thanks just saw it. Wonder why government doesn't just disband NPHET so if they're going to ignore them tbh. 6 weeks from next Tuesday is 1st December. Delaying bringing in restrictions now could guarantee there will be restrictions for Christmas.
