14 day incidence in Dublin has gotten considerable worse this week
Not everywhere though. In my LEA, it's lower than last week and last week was lower than the previous week. We don't even make the Top 100 anymore.

Looking at Dublin LEAs there's a massive difference depending on the area you live in and it can't all be down to just, "they have bigger gardens" or "working from home" surely.

Never turn your army on the people for enforcement, use them to help eg in the testing as they are doing or bringing people to hospital etc

That's what they have been doing tbf. I was swabbed by a member of our PDF when I went for my test last week.

Just by the by, and with a view to enforcement and manpower, is there any legal way for the govt to temporarily, say for 6 months, empower the army with policing powers to assist with checkpoints etc etc ? Like instead of two Gardai you might have one Garda and one soldier at a checkpoint. Genuinely asking. I know there might be constitutional issues or problems with the civil liberties whingers.

You want armed soldiers on the street? Are you well?

There badly needs to be as short video made showing people how to wear masks properly , don't touch them ect , sanitize hands before taking them off ,show it on rte 1 , rte 2 .
    90% + aren't wearing them properly .

And also the daily updates should be on rte 1 or 2 .

I'd say lots don't even know about rte news channel .

NPHET delivers the direct approach, it allows for tweaks. That's not always a bad thing even if it looks made up.

The "Living with Covid" plan lasted 19 days.

Trust me by every single metric imaginably it's a bad thing.

The living with covid plan didn't even last 1 day... They literally went off plan they day they launched it by putting Dublin into "2.5"

Did you even read my post or just see the word army and that set you off ?
Where did I mention “armed” ? Wtf. Do they carry machine guns when shovelling snow or helping with flood relief ?

Soldiers regularly engage in what is called 'aid to the civil power'.
You want soldiers to engage in enforcement , without a gun they are as useful as a chocolate teapot. Yes I did read your post along with alot of other nonsense today.
They don't carry machine guns btw. They are called assault rifles.

The LEAs that continue to go up obviously have more schools than those that have declined, I mean... There is no other possible reason right?

It couldn't be that the social and economic make up of those areas are people that are more likely to buy a bag of cans and all head over to a single house... Nope.

Ireland will never do a curfew, we are thankfully not a police state.

Yeah obviously that would also be helpful , but that's sort of why lm saying put the daily updates on rte 1 , more people would watch it and understand more why reducing contacts is needed .

With the GAA being not so active right now, perhaps the cabinet could do the decent thing and give the keys to Leinster House to the GAA

The remaining livestock (non-portfolio TD's) could be retained to carry out menial tasks

I wonder why curfew is never considered an option here?

Ive seen videos of gangs of youths drinking and huddled together outside in parks etc.. going around on social media this week. The parents obviously have no interest in helping out with this effort so why not bring the army in?

Why do we never seem to think outside the box and find solutions to obvious problem areas. We seem to be prepered to let businesses go to the wall instead of implementing a strategy that may work.

In fairness I don't think that's what the poster meant at all, just that they could assist with checkpoints etc. Gardai are normally unarmed, no reason why the army personnel need to be armed.

I did say that the day they released the living with covid plan.

    https://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=114619091&postcount=7896

    Theyre fecking brilliant.

Whats to stop them sticking in any decimal point they want to.
I can just picture the press conference.

"Mr Martin would like to announce that Mrs Murphys house had an extra visitor last night so shes now at 2.73 on our infinite scale of 5."

And then Donnelly will say "sure a 2.73 isnt really a 2.73 its more like a 2.729999998"

These lot just crack me up.

I really wasn't that far off!!!

No level will work while the schools are still open.

I know, we need to keep targeting the young and vulnerable that have no voice on these forums, are unaffected by Covid & whose future + lives are being destroyed by our actions....

This will come back to bite us if people continue with their campaign against children & education.

Why not? You'd prefer to see working people on the dole?

I think that everyone knows how to wear them properly. But it’s actually quite a lot of effort to do so. The issue is people not caring rather than people not knowing. I think that the mask for most is a necessary evil to allow entry into shops etc rather than for public health. Given that, it’s hard to make people care enough to wear them properly. I’m guilty as anyone....mine goes into my pocket

Ireland has failed with its approach to Covid

We have had the most restrictive regime in place since the 1st wave and it looks like we will be the first to jump to level 5 restrictions. We are at euro mid table with regard to infections. What have we done wrong???

I see no hope to any kind of level 3 or 2 restrictions until at least March more likely April. I suspect by spring, people will be so fed up that i gov tried to reimpose restrictions with it be very difficult

The costs of this are going to be a drag on Ireland for the foreseeable future and the whole social economy will be a lot smaller and will need to be rebuilt from scratch.

Exactly guards can’t do it all. Put the soldiers out.. We not strict enough here with enforcement

It use to be a pretty much daily sight seeing the army man checkpoints along with the Gardai in the 80's and 90's.

Also the Army transporting cash with the Gardai was very common back then.

So it wouldn't be unusual at all. In this case, the army could be unarmed or perhaps just a side arm, more to assist with numbers and resources rather then be threatening as such.

The message was lost with the change of government and the current one being absolutely all over the place. Golfgate happening the same time as LOKDOWN was a significant factor. Gaa is a unique thing and the foundation of many communities here. Club football should never have been let return I think. I don't think it was an acceptable risk as opposed to the return of kids to school.

Compliance went out the window primarily to the above in my opinion.
