Any sign of a new jersey? I'd heard in August that if the championship was run then there was a new one ready to be released.

The current jersey will probably be the one worn for the 2020 championship as it was only released for 2019. Usually they have a two year shelf live these days so a new one should be forthcoming in early 2021.

For anyone interested O'Neills have released a retro 1989 Mayo jersey:

That’s a class jersey in fairness....nice to see it’s made from modern dry fit material rather than the tea cloth type stuff the original was made from.

Some mixed emotions/memories looking back at it to be honest

Doesn't Conor O'Shea play midfield for Breaffy. If giving him a tryout, I'd have him in the midfield and push Diarmuid into the half forwards. Conor O'Shea has been playing brilliant in club matches, but hasn't produced that at intercounty level. First thing, ask ourselves why? He seems to be the type of player who is intense, and the occasion may get to him. Maybe being a forward adds pressure on him, that he feels he has to constantly score or be deemed a failure. I don't know.
But in a couple of challenge games, I'd throw him in the middle and ask him to work like hell - which is what he will do anyway. Throw the shackles of him.

Conor O'Shea has had loads of opportunities to make his way as a real county footballer and has not pushed on. He is like Hennelly imo and time to try someone new.

Some people are fantastic club players but can't make the transition. Conor has shown that he fits into this bucket.

Galway are missing quite a few players.Moycullen contingent due to Covid 19.

No sign of Damian Comer and Shane Walsh is not named to start.

Our lads seem to be near full strength outside Brendan Harrison and Jason Doherty.

As an aside anybody know what the story is with Ethan Henry of Mayo Gaels?

I know he was taking the year out to concentrate on his leaving certificate.

    Fabulous young footballer.

I know some people get labelled with that tag e.g. Neil Douglas from Castlebar, Jason gibbons etc. Reason I think is because they do not have the attributes necessary for the step-up i.e. pace and muscle/aggression.
The 2 examples I gave are generally good in club games because they are toying with players of same physique, pace etc. But almost all intercounty players will be equally as fast and when the opposition show great strength, aggression, then the game is up for the like of Douglas and Gibbons.
I don't put Conor O'Shea into that category. I just think he is not playing in his optimal position i.e. as a runner in midfield.

Yeah I think he was always played out of position at county level, and has more to offer. Would like to see him get another chance.

I think it is a bit more that just mussle and agression. I think it is also having the inner belief and football brain to rise above the normal. In fairness Conor was playing really well in the club but sometime I look and wonder where is he going with this. The final was an example for me where as when McLoughlin got the ball he made a smart move or the ball is over the bar.

In fairness, McLoughlin showed on numerous occasions throughout the club campaign the difference between a good club player and a top county player - he really was a touch of class throughout the whole thing! Hopefully, he can keep that form going for a few years for both club and county. One of the most underrated and unacknowledged players both inside and outside of Mayo. You need a guy like him on every team.

Him, Doc and Boyler have been the heartbeat of the team for years. Totally underrated for all the dirty work that they do. Doc was only recognised for what gives the team when he isn't there. As a young lad he was a total score getter and evolved into what he is today, the quintessential team player.

I couldn't agree more! I'd throw Seamie O'Shea into that category as well - did so much donkey work that went unseen and unthanked. A bit like Doherty, he never really got too many mentions (unless giving out) until they got injured when they were suddenly key vital players we were missing. In other words, people finally realised the work they did for the team and what their absence took away from things.

Have to agree with you. Wouldnt have been his biggest fan when he came on the team, thought he might just be one of these sensational FBD/early league players that gets found out in champo but his form in 16 and in particular 2017 was sensational. Thought he deserved an all star that year.

TBF any supporters country wide with more than a passing knowledge of the game would have given due recognition to Kevin Mc Loughlin,Jason Doherty,Colm Boyle and Seamie O Shea.

With the possible exception of Doc I'd never have believed they were underrated within or outside the county.

Other county threads down through the years would bear witness to same.

When it came to awards etc their less glamorous work/intense competition and ultimately lower profiles reduced their recognition.

Lest we forget Colm Boyle is a 4 time All Star and was in hard luck to not win one in 2019.

    He was outstanding that year.

A few new faces on the Mayo team. Horan does make changes before throw in so this team probably won't start?

    3. David McBrien - Ballaghaderreen
    4. Lee Keegan - Westport

    8. Matthew Ruane – Breaffy
    9. Conor Loftus - Crossmolina Deel Rovers
    10. Fionn McDonagh - Westport

Conor Loftus is a left of field pick.

    Wasn't on the radar recently.

Must be going well in training?

Diarmuid shifts out to the middle.

James Horan seems to really rate Eoghan McLaughlin.

    Definitely one for the future.

Expecting Kevin Mc will start at 6 or the half forward line.

Others will have more of an inside track on David McBrien?

Loftus played there for Crossmolina during the intermediate championship.
Really can't see that as a viable IC midfield option.

There was a Chris Barrett played midfield for Mayo in an U21 final in 04. He is not the current defender?

The Chris Barrett in the current setup was a minor from the 2005 team who stepped up to u21 in 2006 which won the all Ireland. That was some team with a good crop becoming senior inter County players.

Monaghan have gone down by 3 points to Kerry.

Now need Tyrone to win in Donegal tomorrow after our league game finishes.

Of course both results will matter not a jot/be immaterial if we fail to win in Tuam.

Our points difference vis a vis both counties is appalling.

If we win tomorrow a Donegal victory leaves it in our own hands. A win for Tyrone and we'll be relying on a favour from Kerry or Meath.

We're up against it big time. In fairness, we've pulled off some great escapes the last ten years or so but this would be the best of the lot.

Nothing like the true El Clasico to get the blood flowing!:D

It's truly Super Sunday with 2 great cross border derbies.

Eoghan Mc Loughlin after his Kerry cameo that seemingly lifetime ago deserves his start.

Will be fascinated by the bench?

Names I'd like to see feature.

    The 2 O Donoghues,James McCormack,Padraig O Hora,James Carr,Darren Coen,Jordan Flynn,Aidan Orme,Darren McHale and Colm Moran.

Not sure what's the story with Brendan Harrison?Injured.

Zippy,Tom Parsons,Chris Barrett,Michael Plunkett are the tried and tested likely to lent on for experience.

A Mayo win and a Tyrone loss today sets up a relegation playoff next week.

If Mayo finish level on points with just Monaghan, Monaghan win on the head to head.

If Mayo finish level on points with just Donegal, Donegal win on scoring difference (right now it's a 33 point difference). That's assuming scoring difference will be the
tiebreaker as they drew the league game.

If Mayo finish level on points with both Monaghan and Donegal again Mayo likey lose out on scoring difference.

Monaghan have Meath left to play so they are likely to win that.

However Mayo could stay alive with a win and a draw and a Monaghan loss to Meath.

In no scenario is it in Mayo's "own hands" at this point, they need other results to work, however a win today will give them the best chance for the final weekend.
