    Marvelous!

Fast forward six weeks with case numbers even higher :
"Oh, it was the schools after all.

    The denial is astoundingly.

How does closing retail make sense when schools stay open?

    It makes zero sense

The schools wont be open for much longer. Online from midterm break.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Close the schools in Nov,Dec and Jan.

    Keep them open in June,July,August.

Summer holidays cut to two weeks in Sep.

    Job done.

What extra is Level 5 supposed to get us? It's not spreading in retail. Level 5 doesn't close schools.

If it's spreading by people moving around between houses, closing more businesses isn't going to help anything.

It's absolute and complete total madness. Ruin businesses and services people need, but keep all avenues for the actual virus spread open/no enforcement powers to stop them.

    Absolute and complete madness.

Have you read the twitter thread from Alasdair Munro about infection rates by age in the UK? Have a read, great info using unbiased data. Well worth a few minutes of your time.

This is why we need a level 5 lockdown and the deluded relaxers need to soften their cough.

Are we targeting high risk areas regarding spread of the virus? Are we actually engaging with employers to make sure as many people as possible are working from home and those that aren’t are maintaining social distancing plus masks? During the lockdown what are HSE, NPHET, government etc going to do to prevent a third lockdown?
I think people are perfectly entitled to voice their opinions. And when people are making huge sacrifices required for a lockdown they are perfectly reasonable to expect authorities to hold up their side.

What the fućk is the point in this.

Fishing for likes or just trying to go on a wind up ?

God no, my nana has a very active life and wants to keep living. I think that has been part of the reason she lived so long. She's under no illusions but has been in hospital enough to know that it doesn't take much for it to become overwhelmed.

    This too shall pass.

This is very possible too. Interestingly our national school just sent on their remote learning policy this morning....

Does a positive swab always point to a new case?

No is the short answer. Over a 7 day period positive swabs and cases confirmed tend to be similar in numbers.

Today you might have 1,100 cases announced. But that backlog of 250 plus usually comes through down the line. There may be 100 odd in the difference per day if you accumulate a week's total.

And yet ROI has a far lower case rate.. so there are differences.

Are they going to lock the schools down and put us all into the start of ANOTHER 6 week cycle?

Because that is likely to happen :(

And then with the schools closed and cases still are not dropping... they will realise the levels no longer matter, because the issue is compliance.

    When 80% are asymptomatic?

The app has been a bit of a disappointment.

Only 3091 people who have got covid have uploaded random IDs.

Isnt that a really low percentage of cases since its launch?
I was really surprised to see that when you get a positive test result (by text) you don't get the code to upload your random IDs in the text. You don't get that until the contact tracers call you, which delays the whole thing unnecessarily. Fixing that won't make much difference here and now, but it has to be something sorted out for the next wave.

It was foreseen by NPHET that thanks to our improved public health infrastructure and better contact tracing we'd be able to avoid a general lockdown by quickly targeting clusters, tracing contacts, and implementing localised restrictions.

Unfortunately it turned out that we were never making any real effort to identify the causes of clusters, our contract tracing was nowhere near as efficient as they were claiming, the much trumpeted "Living with Covid" plan is nowhere near fit for purpose, and now we're facing a possible extended national lockdown at the highest level of restrictions.

Criticism of NPHET is entirely justified. Referring to it as them being "demonised" is just not wanting to face the reality that they've failed miserably at their task.
