I dont agree with the church's view on suicide one bit but that is their view.

What is hypocritical though is Joe adopting the church's view of heaven - your buuutiful son is in the arms of Mary - when it suits him. I cant see any more reason for buying into that either Unfortunately.

    Post of the day.

I agree with Joan Freeman here, you do not leave a person aside in distress no more than a person with a broken leg.

Why is it always about looking for the incompatibilities of the Catholic faith with contemporary Irish life. How come Joe has never had a show about the incompatibilities of Islam with contemporary Irish life.

Simple. He wouldn’t have the guts.

I think we’ve got the gist of this by now.......everyone thinks the the fella writing in the Irish Catlick is a throwback to the dark ages.

    MOVE ON ffs.

The death process in Zurich is not peaceful, it is horrible. I'd prefer a general anaesthetic type process but that requires "executioner" doctors to perform it and raises questions about ethics etc. Difficult area.
I don't about what procedures would be in Zurich etc.

It is of course a seriously difficult area.

I just think if it was allowed with tight restrictions etc I wouldn't be against it in principal.

I would like the option available to me if I had a terminal illness and was in immense pain and had all my faculties about me.

Everybody wants to move on, apart from Joe.

    This woman is pretty eloquent.

I am a very much lapsed catholic since I was about 16. My folks also very much drifted away with the scandals etc. Gay and happily married now. Much happier having nothing to do with the church. I haven't been to one in years.

"I haven't managed to get on the show before".

Well maybe your opinions today are more appealing to the presenter.

So would I. But not the choking to death on a bitter pill you take yourself as is done in Zurich, it was scary to watch on documentary. I wouldn't mind a self administered overdose of heroin or something like that if I had the courage to do it. Trouble is, somebody paralysed by MND or other illness can't administer their own, and the Hippocratic Oath prevents any qualified doctor from administering a lethal dose. In that case it relies on a willing relative or friend to do it and not everyone would know somebody like that, also many would be highly reluctant to do it in case if accusation of murder. It's the most difficult area of all.

Not a nice thing to admit about myself but I honestly think less of people when I hear they are a member of that church. Anyone who can support such an organisation, to me, is choosing bad over good.
