Dingle sherry cask tasting tonight. Six single malts at cask strength aged for almost seven years in Manzanilla, Fino, Amontillado, Palo Cortado, Oloroso & Pedro Ximenez. Should be a good one!

    Looking forward to it too.

Looking forward to it. I've a backlog of tastings as times didn't suit me so I'll do this one live to start catching up. I wouldn't have such a backlog of course if you didn't keep posting details to test my feeble willpower!

    Don't blame me!

Just arrived in the post. Really looking forward to tasting this one. Teeling pineapple rum cask, 49.2%. Love the golden natural colour, very exotic in appearance!

Pineapple and whiskey  Can't quite get my head around that one.

But then again, I think people who put pineapple on pizzas are psychopaths.

One of the boozier tastings - 6 cask strength samples. Very impressive overall. The idea of tasting them all again in two or three years really appealed to me.

Good tasting. Some lovely ones and some not quite there yet. I only tried three in the end cause I'm up early in the morning. Six cask strength whiskies would have pushed me over the edge!

I made a smoky negroni last night.

It's a drink that has long been on the menu of Michelin-starred chain Hakkasan, in a few different iterations. They use a mixture of mezcal, sweet vermouth, Campari and plum sake ... With a spritz of Arbeg... But I made a more stripped back version minus the plum sake.

Honestly... I don't think the flavours really marry up particularly well. The overall bitterness of a negroni is still there, but the smoky and woody notes of the Lagavulin in the version I made were not a natural union.

The thing about bourbon in a negroni is that it actually balances out some of that bitterness, and a boulevardier is a drink all of its own that feels very 'right'.

But this just felt like a mistake.

    You live and learn.

I'll add it to me list of negroni varieties tried to date.

(Dirty negroni with olive brine... Delish. Poitin negroni ... Works grand, unsurprisingly. Tequila negroni... Also a legit combo).

Laphraoig QC imo is superior to the L10. Although it is a NAS, it has a higher abv. There's less of the mineral taste of the 10 and something of a sweeter development and aftertaste. I love the L10 but the LQC would be my choice between the two, every time.

Bottle has just arrived so I will have a sample tomorrow. Also nice that it's included a "free square foot of Islay land" which entitles me to ground rent of one dram per year to be claimed at the distillery. :pac:

I'm quite enjoying The Chita with higher sodium content soda water.

I've got so many of those little cards, I probably own about an acre of bogland in Islay. I wonder how many rent drams can you claim. If you arrive with 20 of them, is that a free bottle?!

Website says it's one per person, but you can save up "points" to use in their online shop for merch.

Since this is Page 420 of the discussion, has anyone tried a Cannabis/Marijuana infused whiskey? Something like this: https://chronvivant.com/cannabis-thc-infused-whiskey

I tried that new Jameson Cold Brew last night. Not really convinced. Maybe it'll grow on me, but I suspect the rest of the bottle will be used for Irish coffees.

I'd be surprised if the novelty hasn't worn off a bit. I certainly have no interest in spending more multiples of €75 on whiskeys that are all quite similar. And collectors must be bleeding at the eyes at this stage if they're trying to keep up.

I sent that link to a friend knowing that he'd be at least curious. He now has the oven on and has gone to buy Wild Turkey.

    It must have now.

The 1.2 of the Ratheadon are still available handy enough. And that was by far and away [in 1.1 form] by consensus, the best of the lot.

We'll know the novelty has worn off when they start releasing smaller bottles \ comparitive tasting sets. That's when I might rejoin the fray.

I enjoyed the comparitive tasting I did with some minis from Dick Macks, that's enough for me for now.

Same here. I'd be interested in a set of 5/6 small bottles but I won't be in the market for any more full bottles for a couple of years at least.

A colleague of mine is involved in the food/hospitality industry and we had a conversation before about Green/Yellow/Red spot whiskeys, and I mentioned something about a blue version coming out at some stage. Long story short, he commented that there is something to do with food/beverage marketing around blue not being attractive, perhaps something to do with psychology or what not.

Anyway, found myself searching high and low on the Celtic Whiskey shop for the Waterford whiskey, and all I could find, as I thought, was their Gin. When in fact it turns out their whiskey is in blue bottles. So there you go, maybe there is something to it.

Despite the fact the spell it "whisky" (unforgivable for an Irish whiskey), I still might make a purchase - has anyone tried any of them?

I think it's great to see the traditional spelling back :).

I tried method and Madness single grain last night, i am only starting out on my whiskey adventure really but was not a fan at all. I have been fine with Black bush, Jameson black barrel, Powers three swallows, RB12 all neat and room temp.

I found the M&M very harsh, its a tad stronger @46% but i could feel the alcohol evaporate from the back of my throat. Would i be better mixing these with some soda water or tap water ? or is it just a taste thing ?

Yeah, M&M is quite intense and possibly not the best to try if you are only beginning on your whiskey (whisky? :) ) adventure. Personally, I utterly love it, but then I love my tastebuds being assaulted.

I'd say stay away from soda water or, heaven-forbid, tap water and maybe add a little more bottled water to take the edge off it.

Which M&M was it, just out of curiosity?
