Have to agree, these conditions sound very poor considering their essential roles.

Over the Summer many people from the colleges volunteered for this as they were getting paid and were already Garda vetted in their workplace. The colleges also hosted many of the tracing centres. They are now back at work so the numbers of tracers would have gone down when needed most.

Garda vetting is non transferable. Being vetted for college doesn’t then mean you can take a role with the HSE with the same vetting. You’d have to be vetted again.

Lockdown followed by release followed by lockdown......
Not the way to do it.
Need to get it under control.
    Find, Isolate, test and trace.
Fair to say it's not's working at the moment.

Even where this works it presumes that people will follow public health guidelines, which some people clearly are not doing, the numbers affected rise very fast and so we end up back in the lockdown cycle to manage it.

Maybe transmission in children isn’t as aggressive as amongst adults. Just putting that out there.

A lot will be asymptomatic also. If they are not tested they are not included in the figures obviously.

Trick or treating is only allowed if each child gets €9 worth of sweets at each house they call to.

    Exactly.

Ireland is full of let's say people who don't care about anyone or anything only themselves.

Huge amount of these around compared to a lot of other countries.

So how come other countries are just as fcuked as Ireland? Going by your genius theory?? Czechia, Spain, Italy etc

I wonder how much longer the government can hide what's going on in schools from people? Maybe they'll wait until every small business in the country is gone to the wall before being honest.

    Seriously noone is hiding anything.

Loads of reports of cases in schools this morning.

Can we please stop the conspiracy theories that the government are telling the media not to report on schools.

It helps noone and has no merit or credible evidence.

Are NPHET still due to meet today, could the rest of the country move up or is this it for this week?

They'll do the usual R0 and disease prevalence this evening but it should be it for this week. We'll be into week 2 of Level 3 next week so we'll just have to see how the trends go. If it starts to flatten a bit then probably Level 3 for a further 2-3 weeks. If it's still an upward trend It may be Level 4 all round by the end next week.

How's the tracing app going ??

Not enough downloads, who knows how many actually have the Bluetooth on for it. It does some work to relieve contact tracers but it's not doing a great job.

Yes Nphet are due to meet.

I can't see any recommendation to change the levels being accepted so I can't see them issuing one. I would not be surprised if they cut at the sides somewhere and recommend enforcement of something.

    Accuracy is unfortunately poor.

Some countries are using them , usually in conjunction with PCR, and there is plenty of research going on but for now they are still not accurate enough yet.

IBEC defending their members for sure but hard to see why they are annoyed at something that has been coming in this counties since we moved to Level 3.

People also forget that we tried closing the schools before; in March; and it made no difference. It may even have made things worse.

    Absolute nonsense.

There was zero control measures in schools in March it would have been fúcking carnage to leave them open, the "lockdown" in March/April was by and large universally adhered to, the vast majority were not dropping their kids off at Grannies and going back home drinking cans.

People need to stop peddling the horse shít they are being fed, biological humans under the age of 19 get and transmit Covid 19.

The dangerous narrative being peddled is what will get kids dropped off to elder relatives and will end up in tragedy.

'Sure the gubberment told us kids are practically immune'

Hospital cases down last night from 234 to 214 and those in ICU still at 30. A tiny sliver of good news!

Anyone running a business from their house would be permitted to have clients in as they'd count as "essential" purposes.

I think the ban on household visits will be enough to placate NPHET for now anyway. That cuts to the core of where they believe the infections are coming from.

Personally it feels to me like we need to look at a strategy that prioritises controlled environments, if we want to have "normality".

I see loads of people sarcastically saying on twitter, "So I can't go see my Mum in her house, but I can go meet my mates outside the pub?". The answer is yes. Because the pub is controlled, your Ma's house is not.

If we can find a way to allow people to socialise in a controlled environment like a pub, park or restaurant, then people will be more tolerant of not being able to go to eachother's houses.

But it probably needs some more tightening up on "controlled" environments, such as requirement for ventilation, actual 2m between tables and not just a plastic partition, obligation to take names and phone numbers of the entire party, etc. Along, of course, with enforcement, up to and including closure orders and large fines for businesses who flout the rules.

I wish the government had just introduced a staggered approach to schools
One bubble attends 2 days of school one week and 3 days the next week- I know it’s not ideal for us working parents but it allows for proper social distancing in schools that way children will have some semblance of an education and they’re social needs will be met and teachers can work in a ‘safer’ environment
If we go to level 4 I’ll be removing my children from school and taking unpaid parental leave which I can’t afford as the Government/ nphet have always said if community transmission is low then schools are safe.
They’ve already acknowledged that community transmission is not low

I'm inclined to agree with you.

Limp along to mid-term then go 4. Extend a week or two to the end of November. Hopefully go back to L2+ or some other confusing level but allow some sort of social scene and shopping for December / Christmas. L5 for Jan, Feb and Mar.

If they can't get some sort of business activity for Christmas they will loose all control and what little support they have. This is all just optics and timing now trying to manage the outcry from both sides.

While it feels much longer, it's been exactly a month since the "Living with Covid" plan was announced.
This is a plan which gives clarity about each of our responsibilities and how different situations and sectors will be handled

First mention I've heard on the radio news today, they mentioned that the number of schools with cases has doubled from last week to this, 25 - 50. I find that very hard to believe.

    It's easy enough really

They way they are counting a school case it could any staff member , any child, any parent, any grandparent etc

Once they have a link with the school

No it isn't. If that were true there would be 1000s of cases linked back to schools.

My understanding is that parents and grandparents aren't relevant in this case.
