You should join the home bar group on facebook, we've more sheebeens than pubs now, some very impressive ones, very happy to have access to a mates one, it's not much but can't beat fresh draught.

How do they get the kegs?

Lots of pubs need to shift their stock.

People who think that the only way to have a social life is to sit at a bar on their own literally need to get out more.

Said the man who’s been to the pub more times in the last couple of months than anyone else here.

So you admit I was going to pubs for those pints then? ;)

Correct! Going to the pub is only one of myriad ways to lead a social life.

Whilst one should enjoy a tasty delicious pint when given the chance, it is smart not to depend I've just one avenue to fulfill your social needs.

I’m an essential worker who works 60+ hours per week. I’m not one of these WFH lads either. Your suggestion of joining a book club instead of going for a pint after a long week of work is ridiculous considering how many times you’ve been out for your “creamy and delicious” pints. You might have an alcohol problem.

The only alcohol problem I have at the moment is that the pubs are closed. Dying for a delicious pint to be honest!

No because its getting clearer i think that house parties aren't going on to the scale people think.

Might have something to do with packing kids into a classroom all day but sure thats off topic for this thread so I won't diverge from topic.

The unmentionable vector of school transmission. Silence now, move along.

What is left to close now?

So what's the story with the schools?

I thought I read the other day that the percentage of cases linked to schools is the same now as when the schools were closed? I find that hard to believe but are the stats correct? The article I read said 15% of cases were in the Under 19s group. The same as when schools were open? Can't be true, can it?

They were at the end of summer and probably would during mid-term if given the chance.
I doubt a ban on alcohol sales would have stopped or even slowed that down.
People will always find a way to get it anyway.

There are a few on the go alright. They are a great idea and despite being the ire of the curtain twitch brigade are safer than you would think. The ones near me are mainly made up of clientele from local old men's place's. Nothing fancy, kegs of Guinness, cans and whisky, vodka and gin. Some lads brought their own and if you are scooping stout there is a contribution bucket and most lads helping themselves.

The new normal:) Necessity is the mother of all invention.

Before the outrage crew arrive it is worth saying that any of the local ones around are only opening upon appointment, so basically Wednesday through to Sunday evening. The only late night I heard of was poker and golf when the US open was on. The stripper stories were lies and rumours, I reckon anyway.

I thought such ingenuity from oul lads looking to socialize was to be encouraged.

Non food pubs were closed for six months. After two false dates, they re-opened in September for three weeks. Now shut down again. Government providing supports via EWSS and funding for such businesses.
Pub owners are not in business to have to provide account breakdowns of revenue losses, or staff wage subsidies on varying hours. They just have a pub.
In Ireland now, owning a pub is not about a business that provides a social service in Irish culture ... lots of pub owners will just give up. The paperwork and forms are just too much for those simple pubs. Accountants are raking it in.
    It's disgusting.

Most booze from offies is drunk in homes without parties.

What you mean to say is "if i can't drink in pubs then nobody else should be allowed to drink".

    Oh, because of house parties?

Yeah, and while we're at it lets ban pretzels. You can't be too careful! And what about party-poppers? Anyone caught buying them should be arrested!

And don't even get me started on the sale of birthday cakes!

Most pubs in cork city centre don't look to be getting the full 15 in anytime I've passed. Don't blame them it's baltic out

I tried to get into a few places last weekend, all booked up. I decided I had better book this weekend so I have my slot booked for 6 this evening, I was told when booking it I could only have the table untill 8. TBH the thought of sitting eating and drinking at a table outside freezing doesn`t inspire me but its the only way to get out.
    What have we come to..............

You could just not go out? Any socialising increases risk and should be avoided even if it’s allowed. Personal responsibility.

Your dead right my friend. I don't know about you but I've already blocked my windows and doors with crooked pieces of wood. No damn virus is getting near me.

Well, a sensible decision by the courts in Berlin, shame it wouldn't happen here:
A BERLIN COURT HAS suspended an order for bars and restaurants to close from 11pm to 6am, finding that “it was not apparent” such a measure could help fight coronavirus.
Closing food and drink establishments was therefore a “disproportionate encroachment on the freedom” of the industry, the court ruled.

Saw a post on Facebook that pubs, restaurants and gyms in Liverpool and Manchester were opening en masse against advice. Fair play to them.

I saw a few gyms in Liverpool doing that alright but not pubs & restaurants.

Some could argue that gyms are essential and pubs/restaurants are not.

Tell that to the people that work in them.

Oh, I'm well aware of that don't get me wrong.

I think there was unfairness in the opening of pubs in Ireland and they should have been opened earlier because of the various loopholes etc but I also think gyms are on a different level of necessity to pubs/restaurants when it comes to more severe lockdowns.
