What will Leo say over the next few days when NPHET are proven correct ... Had he just refused to take their advice he could have talked his way out however when his ego made him bring Dr Holohan down on that interview he may have blown his political career

So they will wait another 2-3 weeks? That would be madness the way cases are increasing.

If the article in the Indo is correct, I think what they're saying is they wont wait that long, due to the way the numbers are going.

It's all speculation, but I dont think MM and Donnelly had shared the conversations with the CMO with the rest of government. That's why Leo went on Claire Byrne and put the boot in; he didnt have the full story.

This government has been littered with stories of poor communication between the parties.

That Varadkar interview wont age well especially in a few weeks when hospitals are under increasing pressure. He clearly tried to to portray himself as a man of people but its just highlighted his lack of integrity

Only took a few days. Now lockdown may be needed. Get that in just as public perception is beginning to change again.

Yeah 0.05% risk of dying from it if you're under 45 same risk as dying from a lightening strike we might as well never leave the house so with that logic.

Everyone is at risk, not just from dying. Some young lad on the late late show who was left crippled and can't walk and he's 17. Many more people with lasting affects as well.

Apart from proposing to destroy our economy, jobs, businesses, families, mental health, etc. what are NPHET doing in a tangible way to improve our disgraceful testing and tracing system and to increase hospital bed and ICU capacity?

It's a disgrace to contemplate locking down the entire country. If you're at risk, or simply terrified of the virus, or have a nasty authoritarian streak in you, take your own advice and STAY THE **** AT HOME and leave the rest of society to get on with living with COVID and every other illness out there.

COVID isn't going away you know.

You really don’t understand anything about what’s happening here, God love ya.

Unfortunately my employer doesn’t agree and wants us back in the office, regardless of virus rates.

And then countries like ourselves who massively overstate deaths.

    A few points.

1-They are not offsetting, i.e. the countries that don’t underreport are few and far between
2-Our death number are minuscule on a gross level
3-Our deaths are not grossly over-reported. They’re likely over-reported but on a marginal level if you look at excess deaths. And even excess deaths are a not a great indicator as the age profile means that there’ll be an overlap for a portion which means they’ll technically be excluded from the excess. In summary, even on our scale, “massively overstated” is not true

    Yikes.

What sector/industry do you work in (if it's not too personal a question)?

Our economy is fcuked anyways, it doesn't matter what way you go. Keep it open or close things, we're well and truly fcuked.

I think you’re confusing NPHET with the HSE and Government policy on not taking those measures.

If Dublin starts climbing still, they'll at least have to move there up I reckon.

Dublins incidence rate is falling and has been for a few days, the lockdown there is working as it started a few weeks back now.

We have to keep business open unless the rest of Europe closes down

It's not really though. Apart from the hospitality sector, most businesses are back to normal.

The danger to the economy and businesses is very real. Level 4 will close retail and we are a whisker away from that.

Again, you simply do not have any idea about what you’re talking about.

NPHET is an advisory committee essentially. It has nothing to do with testing, tracing or healthcare management. That’s for the HSE and the government, who rejected NPHET advice just this week.

And again, in simple terms, if the healthcare system is overwhelmed, the economy is fcuked, the ever crowed about mental health is not going to be too hot, and employment will be decimated.

We live in a thing known as a society. It’s sort of like a team, like Man United or something. This is a challenge for society. Our team is losing, the goalkeeper has been sent off, The only way to improve the outcome is to come together and endure individually perceived discomforts in order that our society, the team, can survive.

It needs to move that way for the next 7 days to provide clear evidence. With rates in the rest of the country we'll be back on hospital watch in a big way.

It doesn't appear to be falling but stabilizing, which really isn't what we need considering level 3 started nearly a month ago

Lots of meaningless words that fail to answer the question. Can anyone tell me what NPHET(/HSE/Government) are doing in a tangible way to improve our disgraceful testing and tracing system and to increase hospital bed and ICU capacity?

WHAT HAVE NPHET DONE TO IMPROVE MY BROADBAND CONNECTION?!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,730 ✭✭✭mirrorwall14

Parents and students need to be jumping up and down for a graduated approach to closures that than blanket ones and proper contact tracing in schools

Take other countries approaches. Case in the primary school, send the class home (no fudging) and contact trace the staff. Case in secondary school send the year group/class home depending on whether the student has been mixing with the full year groups or their class. Contact trace the teachers and send them to work from home. Get the parents council involved if you can do that you can have a body in the classroom and get the technology set up so the teacher can be broadcast into the room. This should already have been done and there shouldn’t be any messing with pods or waiting four days for contact tracing to contact the school. Transmission rates are high and rising. Take a clear, hard stance and manage things in school transparently.

Level 4/5 there should still be graduated approaches. Secondary should go before primary as rates among those age groups are higher. Primary could go half in half out to double social distancing so that at least parents only need 2.5 days a week and the children are getting good teaching. ‘Long weekends’ for a few weeks won’t do them as much harm as shutting down completely

I don’t get this full open/full closure. This is a virus. That’s a ridiculous approach and will be detrimental to students

Telling us to get a grip? Do you see anything wrong with no ICU beds in Cork? How do you not find that worrying?

Read my post again. I said get a grip in terms of castigating the poster for maybe getting it wrong.

How you have read that as me saying get a grip and don't be worried about the state of the ICU beds situation is beyond me...

NPHET gives advice on public health. They have no control over hospitals or the test and trace system. That is the HSE and government job to sort out. A job they failed at.

Bring Mid-term forward by 1 week, and a 2-3 week mid-term at level 5? I think they might get away with level 4
